The €2k-4k Lux-O-Barge Thread !

Ok, I've been sensible long enough in this lifetime.

MPG & Motor Tax - Who gives a fck !

I'm looking for a €2,000 to €4,000 Lux-o-Barge to tax and use for no more than 3 months in the Summer as a second car.

It must have leather, it must be either a Jag, Merc, Audi, Beemer, Lexus or maybe Volvo.

Fire away, and feel free to use this thread for other Luxobarge requests.

Maybe lower your budget to below €2k as you won't be able to sell the car on after you're finished with it

And may I suggest a BMW 740 (4.4l V8 petrol auto). You won't regret it

Jag xk series v8.

Its actuolly cool Idea. Having something fun for 3 months in summer.

What will you do with insurance thought? I think temporary you can put insurance only for 2 month.

Best of luck, I want to do the same, just looking for that diamond barge in the rough which at this stage is prooving to be a lot of work. If I can't afford to run her I will just mothball her in the driveway and admire how once good she was

The changeover is not temporary. It is permanent. After 3 months you'll make the permanent change back to your other car. I do it all the time

Lexus ls400 would be my suggestion, Volvo does not belong to this tread. If not Lexus, then BMW 740 would be tempting.

Something with two automatic gearboxes and torque converters connected in series, just for the whole automaticness of it all.

Oh yea and a button that electronically controls the dial that pushes the temperature of the heating up. Why would you twiddle a dial when you can push a button that will twiddle the dial for you? After all thats what you want if you get a luxobarge. You'd be too posh to twiddle a dial

and in each seat there should be a little tube that comes out automatically into the anus of the person sitting in the seat to electronically remove any farts waiting to happen

This has been for sale for a while, looks in good nick despite missing the parking brake handle and one of the rear cabin vents has been kicked in. Also not a real Sport so room for haggling!

Funny that. I bought a 7.5 year old 7-series V8 7 years ago and I paid €11k for it which was a bargain at the time. A similar Merc S-class would have gone for €18-€20k. The 7.5 year old (newer model) in your link can be had for just over half that. How times have changed...

Incredible machine that ^^ I was amazed by the one I had for a bit.

Pretty bomb proof. I think it was the older 400's that had issues with LCD displays.

Check strut rod bushings (slam on the brakes and listen/feel for a thud). Avoid if noisy.
Check steering rack boots.
Check for damp boot carpet and under carpet - simple rubber failure but often allowed to get worse

Get one ;-) .. you won't be disappointed. Expect to make friends with every petrol station attendant in Ireland though.

The bastards asked me for a Log Book of the car last time I changed.. because I had already made 4 changes before?? Just because I own 2 cars they expect me to insure both.

It is not illegal to not have a car insured in this country as far as I'm aware. They can **** off.

An M5 is not a Luxobarge even in the slightest?
However the 13year old plus BMW (/other) is a good idea as you can get classic insurance for like EUR350. No need to switch it off after the 3mths, meaning your car is Insurance protected year round.

i noticed these drop in value a month ago. there were few more in same range price range. thats what i would go for i guess.

First Ireland Insurance, Classic Policy (needs another car on normal insurance), can have multiple cars on further policy, each getting cheaper and cheaper.
Mileage brackets: 1000, 2000, 4000, 6000, 10000.

Classic tax is 30years IRC.
