I'm a member of a gym (won't name and shame) and its grotty filthy. This has been brought to the attention of the mgt and still nothing has been done. I am going to leave but am under contract for 12 mths. Is there an organisation or authority I can report them to for poor hygiene standards??

Contracts are not a one way street. The gym is obliged to provide a reasonable service. Cancel your direct debit at your branch first, take pictures of the filth. Report it to the local council.

Bit aggressive for a simple question.

OP, maybe try the Health & Safety Authority if you think it deems a personal risk.

Gather evidence and inform Gym you will be leaving if they give you grief about the Direct Debit tell them you will be naming and shaming on Boards with Pics if there is any hassle.

Are they carrying an ILAM White Flag award?
Awarded for safety, hygiene and disability accessability.
If so you could report to ILAM.

Sounds gross. Tell us who it is OP, cause I'm thinking of joining a gym at the moment and I'd rather not end up in yours!

Name and shame please name and shame. So other people dont have the mis-fortune of ending up with a 12 month contract they paid good money for.Sure gym's are expensive enough.

As said above leave now and report.

I was in a Total Fitness in Chester and xmas and was very surprised how dirty the place was.

I'm not that pampered but even I was reluctant to hit the floor for some stretching.

I was in the same place 3 years previous and it was spotless.

IMO - an unhygenic gym comes from the management down not the other way around.

If you are planning on joining a gym, then you'd be pretty foolish to sign up with out having a look around.
If you happen to go to the OP's gym, i'm sure you'll notice if its flithy.

OP there's nothing wrong with naming and shaming if its accurate. But again, it doesn't really achieve anything either.

Are you paying montly by direct debit or did you pay for 1 year upfront when you joined?

If it's the former, you can cancel it through your bank.

I would highly recommend you name the gym. If nothing is said, nothing will be done.
