My diet - help!

    Hi everyone,

I was wondering if someone could take a look at my diet & excerise and let me know if I'm going down the right track to lose weight?

    My diet:

    Morning:

Porridge made on water with a dash of milk and a teaspoon of brown sugar.

    Break:

Cup of tea with milk, no sugar.

    Lunch:

Homemade tuna salad with a tablespoon of lakeshore honey and mustard dressing and a slice of bread.

    Dinner:

Usually this consists of meat/fish/chicken, potatoes and veggies. I'm cutting down my potato intake and my plate is now one quarter potatoes, one quarter protein and half veg.

    Snack/dessert:

Chopped fresh fruit and half a pot of yogurt.

I drink 1 and half to 2 liters of water a day and I drink about 4 cups of tea with no sugar.

My excerise is walking mostly, I walk to work and home everyday and that's about 4 miles and I've started the couch to 5k, my first day was yesterday.

How does this look for losing weight and getting fitter?

(I'm female, 5'6, about 12 stone looking to lose about 2 stone :))

    Thanks for your help

First of all instead of the brown sugar in your porridge use fruit like blueberries or grated apple. Some mornings have scrambled egg with rye bread or boiled eggs.
In your salad do not use a dressing , if have to use a teaspoon of olive oil and dont have bread with it , instead use alot more fresh peppers and pecan or pine nuts.
try to use as much fresh fruit and veg as possible for your dinner/lunch and stick to white meat and fish.
your doing well in the exercise department. the trick is to do it slowly , 2ibs a week is the ideal weight loss. remember it probably took ya years to put on the 2 stone so take your time and do it slowly , avoiding high GL foods. Hope this helps

Sara, try the porridge with blueberries as Greg said or for absolute indulgence try it with raspberries, I just started having it with these a while back and I so look forward to my breakfast now!

Thanks Greg, I'm planning to have my porridge with grated apple in the morning!! And I made my salad from tomorrow before I got your reply but I'm going to make my salad with pressed rape seed oil and some black pepper.

Caros - raspberries?! Oh that sounds delish! Might save it for the weekend! :)

I actually put this week's food into an online calorie counter and I'm not even hitting 1000 calories a day with my diet. I'm happy and full, I have a treat every day (a jaffa cake!!) but I'm worried that if I don't hit the 1200 calorie a day minimum I'm going to hinder my weight-loss. I'm thinking about having dried fruit and nuts as a snack through the day with 250 calorie count. Would this be enough?

Dried fruit is very high in sugar so if you can avoid it..
