    Two questions.

    1. If I have my whey shake straight after my workout (Consumed by 8.30pm) , is it too much to take a casein shake when I go to bed at roughly 11pm?

    2. If I take a whey shake in the morning and then repeat the above in the afternoon is that too much? (Thats two whey shakes with water and one casein shake)

    Cheers

Well, no is the short answer.

    But....

    Do you not eat food????

    No on both counts.

My shake routine varies but for example today I had:

    7.30am - 60gram whey shake
    9.30am - 80gram whey shake (after gym)
    12pm - food
    2pm - food
    6pm - food
    10pm - food
Probably have a shake before bed.

    It's important to:

    1. Quantify the amount of powder in the shake and how much protein it yields.
    2. We should be eating every three hours where feasible.
    3. Work the shakes in based on your target protein consumption.

Some days I will have 4 x 60gram shakes but normally it would be 60, 80 and possibly another 60gram shake dependent on the time of the other meals (all 75% protein) and then there would be two or three meals with protein in there as well.

I also have some BCAA and LGlutamine which I include in my daily total as well.

I do have meals throughout the day. I have a dinner in the eve after work and then head to the gym. Im finished by half 8 so i have my shake. I eat nothing after that but was considerin casein for a slow overnight release.

I would only be doing the two whey shakes a day scenario when I start two a days. Hoping to try it this week. So thats a whey shake after each workout and then a casein shake that night.

There's a formula for working out how much protein you might need, lean body mass being the input value. You can google it. Two whey shakes plus casein sounds like a lot. Unless of course you're already huge!

roughly 1g/pound body weight is enough.

To be honest these's no way any one here you can give an accurate answer based on the info you provided above.

"A shake" is a very vague measurement, it might be anything from 20-40g protein depending on size and what it actually is

It's also dependant on your size, your goals (i'm assuming bulk up, but younover know) and most importantly what the rest of your diet is.

If very basic terms, the 3 shakes might be 350-400 cals, in terms of you over all diet this is not significant.

Maybe about 75g protein, same as a 275g steak. Not a massive amount.
