high heart rate

    hi guys I'm on a fitness kick since jan and still going strong with it work out between 5 and 6 times a week. had a assessment today most things improving loosing inches resting heart rate down from 84 to 62 gym instructor said, thats a sign of fitness building. only problem is when ob work out my heart rate gets really high really quick like after 4 mins on crosstrainer its like 176 now its be sweating but able to talk feel fine no pains it just gets high really quick instructor said some people just have a high great rate is this the case? anyone else like this

    what age are you, 176 does not seem high to me if doing a reasonably high level of exercise

    A resting heart rate around there isn't too bad.

    The speed at which your heart rate picks up is probably dependent on effort. Can you sustain 176ish BPM for long periods of time and still be able to chat and not feel like oyu're wokring hard!?

    How high have you gotten it? Is it measured on a the cross-trainer itself or with a 'personal' HRM?
    It very much depends on the individual but at a true 176 you probably wouldn't be making small talk for too long. You'd most likely be feeling like you're working pretty damn hard.
    I mean at a hypothetical Max of 200 you'd be well in the 'this hurts' zone.

    I wouldn't worry about it at all. 176 isn't that high. I know it's different for everyone but I've seen mine hit 194 around the same time my resting heart rate was 48.

    If you can sustain 176 for a decent length of time, 10-15 minutes, great.

    im 28 female I would be working pretty hard no point in going the gym and doing driving miss daisy on it. I was on level 5 resistance and a speed of 145 I can maintain this for the 20 mins I use the cross trainer before moving onto something else. the trainer said I should only be at 140ish like I would be sweating and red faced when finished but I thought that was the point. instructor even sosc next time I'm at gp I should mention it too him.

    Using that one is as good as any of the others.

    The problem is that its fairly useless. It's an average guide, it serves no purpose for an individual, especially one that may have a high MHR.

    There is no way she was able to talk fine if she was working out at 92%.
    Either,
    a) The heart rate display on the machine was more inaccurate than normal (which is s till very accurate), or
    b) The OP has a MHR that is above 192

    My money is on the machine.
