    Hi Everyone!
I thought I'd post here since I'm starting, at last, the last diet I will ever do!
I'm determined to loose all the excess weight I have and this time it's for good. My though behind this is if I was able to quit smoking, I can totally do this!!!! :)
So to put things in perspective I am a female, I am 1.56 m ( 5 foot something) high and I currently weight 97kg (15.3 stone). So my ideal weight should be about 50kg (7 stone something).
So I thought I'd share my progress here from beginning to end.
I was also hoping to use this as a bit of a vent as I know it will be hard and, being all kinds of addicted to food, maybe I'll be able to get a bit of support from people going through the same thing!!
So I've started my actual diet (less food, more veg, etc) I've joined the gym (currently going 2 to 3 times a week). I've been to the doctor and referred me to a nutritionist service (sent the referral letter today), had some blood tests done (results should be in next week).
So from the first few days:
I'm sore from going to the gym, I'm hungry all the time, jesus, i wake up in the middle of the night thinking about eating, but I've managed to restrain myself.
I'm struggling with changing my eating and lifestyle habits and if I have to be honest I don't really want to but, as with the cigarettes it needs to be done.
I think that is it for now!
Feel free to join in in the moaning :D
    I'll keep you all posted
I forgot to say I've also signed up to a counselling service to deal with the fact I keep going on these diets and then I give up and, since I'm at it I'll try to deal with some aspects of my personality I'm not so crazy about!

It gets easier, thats the main thing, and don't "take a break" from it, it takes forever to get back into it. But trust me, after the first 2 weeks, you feel amazing and will fly it

    best of luck with it

check out the stickies here for good info on changing your food intake
    http://www.boards.ie/vbulletin/showthread.php?t=2055157091

remember - change your eating habits. do not go on a diet, as you have to come off it at some stage.
same for cigarettes - to quit you have to change your habits.

post your diet to make sure you arent eating too much.

weight loss is 80% diet and 20% exercise, the key is to do your cardio/weights and then come home and NOT eat too much as a "reward" for your hard work because the chances are you're just cancelling it out.

buy something nice for yourself if you reach a weight target or goal.
    something non edible.

You aim to half your bodyweight? That's a pretty awesome goal! Good luck.

Thank you all for the amazing support!!!
I think post what I eat is a good idea, it will also force me to:
    1. Face my eating habits
    2. Keep a regular record (I have an appointment to see the dietitian in august)

    Before though, a quick update:
Had a party on saturday and manage to stay away for the booze (drank water all night) and still had a great time! I plan to stop drinking for a good 2 or 3 months!
Also, things have started to get a bit better, I don't wake up starving anymore, I'm not hungry all the time but I fell like eating all the time anyway. So I'm struggling a bit on that front though I'm managing not too eat so that's good!
AND! I've lost 1.4 kg (this made me so happy) and my trouser aren´t trying to attack me so much anymore!
So today I ate a tortilla with reduced fat humous and a large piece of ham for breakfast (woke up at 14 pm tough) and about a pint of tea.
    Then I had a peach.
Since then I had one more peach and loads of water!

I would suggest you target some kind of physical exercise every day. Make it part of your routine. It doesn't have to be in the gym. If you have a dog aim to walk it every day. Walk up stairs rather than taking the lift. Look for opportunities to be active. At the end of the day it's your caloric intake that will primarily determine your weight but exercise will help you feel better and reasonably strenuous levels of exercise actually suppress your appetite (although a small amount of food immediately following strenuous exercise is recommended to help with recovery - it also reduces the hunger pangs when the suppressing effect of the exercise wears off.

    Good luck!

Just post up a regular days eating. Be honest about it too, the more open you are, the more people can help you sort it out and it'll get the weight off quicker.

I'd really recommend you try a paleo / primal diet, I found it works wonders for easing bloating and for feeling good in general. Also it's nigh on impossible to eat too much of the food that's allowed on that diet. Plenty of veg and meat won't tend to add up to as many calories as the tortilla you ate.

    ok! Yet another update!
So, good start of the day today, weighed myself and I keep loosing weight (HURRAY!!!!) I lost 11 pounds so far.
I've had wicked mood swings and the thought of eating is always there.
    Yesterday I ate:
Breakfast: Piece of toast with butter, big cup of tea and 2 peaches
Lunch: Missed it (as it was 12 when I had breakfast)
Afternoon snack: Orange and a peach
Dinner: 2 spoons of whole grain rice and 3 fish fingers (made in the oven)
After Dinner snack: Two big tasty strawberries
I had my first appointment with the therapist yesterday, she suggested I may have a food addiction (which I totally see now) and so I'll be working on that.
Well, I think that that is it for today.
    Another update tomorrow.
    Talk to you all then.
    Gi
    Still keeping strong :)

Can I ask how in what space of time you've lost the 11 pounds?

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 189 ✭✭Supermax1988

Just want to say best of luck! It's gonna be tough but stick with. There'll come a day when you might give into temptation but that's ok as long as you don't give up. If it ever happens you're straight back into your routine the next day and if you can stick with it I've no doubt you'll see results

Also had 2 pieces of a fruit i can't remember the name of :)
I also hit the gym today - 1 hour step class
Hunger pangs aren't so bad anymore and I'm taking it one day at a time!!!
    Talk to you all soon,
    Gi
    Keeping strong and determined

Breakfast: Piece of toast with butter, big cup of tea and 2 peaches

Toast is pretty crap to be honest. Bread in general is. Cutting it out will not only help you lose weight, but it'll also help you feel less bloaty. I guarantee you'll feel better for cutting bread out. I'd recommend porridge if you like it. If not, one breakfast I find super quick and good nutritionally is water/milk with a scoop of protein powder, and oats in with it. Covers your protein and carbs. A small handful of mixed nuts & raisens will sort out your good fats.
Lunch: Missed it (as it was 12 when I had breakfast)

Try not to miss meals if possible. Just keep the metabolism ticking over.
Afternoon snack: Orange and a peach

Cool, throw in a wee handful of nuts and you're sorted.
Dinner: 2 spoons of whole grain rice and 3 fish fingers (made in the oven)

The rice is cool for now. Sub in a whole meat for the fishfingers though - chicken is easy to fry in a teeny bit of olive oil... or maybe do a salmon fillet? The fishfingers are a bit crap because of the breadcrumbs and additives.
After Dinner snack: Two big tasty strawberries

Cool, seems like very little though? Don't fret over eating fruit! You'd have to eat a stupid amount of fruit to get fat :) You could throw in maybe an egg? Or a paleo bar (below)? Or something else natural. Starving yourself isn't the way to go - instead of feeling hungry and miserable (and it's a crap way to lose weight and look well, which is important), go for food that is healthy. It's very very difficult to overdose on good wholesome food.

Losing 11lbs so far is a terrific result, well done! I'm sure you're thrilled. What will help is by making your diet feel less like a horrible 'healthy' diet and more enjoyable. The Dublin-based personal trainer Dominic Munnelly (he posts on here as Transform) has a receipe on his website for paleo bars. I swear, these things are ****ing delicious! And really good for you. Definitely helps when you want something sweet ;)

    http://www.dominicmunnelly.ie/?p=995

Just to add my own (slightly less healthy) spin on it! I find dark chocolate of 70% and above too bitter, personally. So see which percentage chocolate works for you. Also, I've found the Tesco 55% chocolate with mint is absolutely devine in these bars. Like I said, not quite as healthy as 70%+, but it's an idea!

Best of luck and do keep us updated.

Congratulations on the progress so far and keep up the good work.

To add to Jimmy Bottlehead's comments below, i would definitely be concerned that you aren't eating enough. I'm trying (and succeeding as well) to lose weight myself at the minute and am doing it through a combination of diet and exercise as well. While I know i could tighten up my diet a bit, I still never get to the point where I'm constantly starving or hungry. If you do, you're doing it wrong I think.

Diet and nutrition shouldn't be about depriving yourself of food. it should be making informed and healthy choices. So, as noted below you should try and swap the bread for something like porridge which will fill you up much longer and is a good healthy food. Eat plenty of fruit and veg, lean meat etc. Don't starve yourself though. its counter productive and eventually you will snap and ditch the diet altogether.

I was a bit alarmed when I say two spoons of rice and fish fingers as a dinner. I'd be ready to eat the plate if that's all I had. Why not ditch the processed fish fingers for some real fish or chicken and add a good portion of veg with it. Either keep the rice or just throw in a lot more veg with it.

Don't feel like you should deprive yourself the odd treat or break day every now and then. its good for you as long as you don't binge. if you constantly deprive yourself however you are more likely to just give up in the end than anything else. Every week allow yourself something like a take away or a bar of chocolate or whatever else your vice is. As long as you put in a bit of effort during the week with diet and exercise then don't fear an occasional night off. it is well deserved and good for you.

Also find some healthy snacks and food that you like for during the week. There's lots of them.

Eating healthy doesn't have to be hard. its just about finding a good balance and watching portion size. if you make it into a matter of depriving yourself though, your always just gonna end up thinking about what you can't have and that will make it even harder to stay on the right path!

HI THERE CONGRATS ON YOUR WEIGHT LOSS SO FAR WELL DONE
I am a personal trainer and lifestyle and weight management consultant and have a bit of info that might or might not help. I am looking at your diet and just noticed that you are having alot of carbs ie bread and fruit together and no protein. Protein and carbs together give you that happy satisfied feeling 0f fullness for longer ie for breakfast third of a cup of porridge and an egg would be a better breakfast. That is slow release and you wont want to chew the hand of yourself to stop you reaching for quick pick me ups before lunch. Both peaches and bread turned to glucose in your system very quickly, which leads to surge of sugar high aand then a dip and that why your hungry. Eat protein every 3 to 4 hours, ie chicken breast grilled, egg, low fat cheese, etc and stick to low gi foods check internet for list ie berries apple strawberries as opposed to high gi banana or grapes etc. Knowledge is power and balance is key
