What to do with Cottage Cheese?

Ive started buying cottage cheese, seens as its cheap, good source of protein (esp as i dont eat meat or poultry, just fish) and its low in carbs. Its pretty new to me. I like it, but not enough to eat loads of it on its own. Usually i mix it in with some canned tuna...but im getting a bit bored of that.

Just wondering what other people do with it...might give me some ideas.

    Cheers;)

I love mixing a little bit of nut butter (peanut and cashew work well) into it. Pineapple works well with it too.

Add a scoop of whey to a 200g pack from lidl. Super stuff and delicious. Vanilla is my favorite, tastes like a milkybar...well almost!

So you make mixture for jelly and the blend with cottage cheese & ice then pop in fridge?

Pretty much. I actually did a search back through the threads here on cottage cheese and found these two:

"2 punnets of mixed frozen berries (about 400g/punnet)
4 tubs of full fat Cottage Cheese (225g/tub I think)
    2 sachets of powdered gelatine

    Method:

Put the berries in a pot with a little water and place on a stove to defrost and bring to boil.
Pour into a blender (there is usually about 2pt volume) and blend to a liquid.
Transfer to a clean bowl and stir in the 2 sachets of gelatine and allowq to cool. I usually stand the bowl containing the fruit liquid into a larger bowl with some cold water and ice cubes to speed up the cooling
When the fruit mixture is cooled down (tepid) empty the tubs of cottage cheese into the blender and add in about 3/4 of the fruit mixture, keeping a little back in reserve. Blend to incorporate the fruit into the cheese fully. It should look like a yogurt mix at this stage
Transfer the Cottage Chesse & fruit mix to small sealable, plastic containers (can be purchased in either Tesco or Dunnes Stores Homw ware Dept)
Spoon on a little of the reserved fruit mix. This will form a jelly like top on the mousses.
Place in the fridge for a few hours/over night to set.

The quantities above make 10 x 150g-180g mousses which will keep for two weeks in the fridge. At least this is as long as I have kept some in the fridge. Though they would usually not last a week I find these less sweet than the version Eileen mentioned using the jelly and there is no difference in the time it takes to make.

    OR

There is a way to make cottage cheese taste nice.

Dissolve a sachet of sugar-free jelly in about 1/3 of a pint of hot water.
Chuck a tub of cottage cheese into the blender, pour on half the jelly liquid, and blend until the whole thing is smooth with no lumps.
Add a tray of ice cubes to the rest of the jelly and them put into the blender and blend the whole thing until you can't hear any ice rattling.
    Pour into dishes and chill.

This gives a lovely fluffy light dessert which doesn't taste of cottage cheese. "

I tried the first recipe last night using 1 punnet of frozen raspberries, fat free raspberry jelly and 2 tubs of the lidl cottage cheese. Will be having it before bed tonight but the mix tasted a lot better than just mixing in peanut butter and choc whey which I had last night :)

They're 200 grams so just look that up on one of the websites that break down food nutrition like fitday.com

Cut an avocado in half and remove the stone. Sprinkle with salt, lemon juice and pepper. Then fill the hole with cottage cheese and eat with a spoon. Enjoy :)

Put it in pancake mix before putting it on the frying pan. Makes them infinitely more awesome.

I know with cottage cheese myself, I used to buy the pots with pineapple mixed in, but have just gone back to basics with the plain pots now. Take roughly 200g before bed, good protein source to have in the body as it rebuilds during the night. Over the last month or so, I just started to mix in a bit of honey, does the job, makes it manageable. Was thinking of adding raisins or peanuts as well (or separately), might give that a go during the week.

I love pancakes - would never have thought of putting cottage cheese in them tho:) How much would you usually put in? just a tablespoon or so?

Cottage cheese is yummy on a baked potato. The hot and cold work really well. Just sprinkle some chive on top and you're good to go!

I put in loads, don't really measure it. I guess each pancake would have 2 tablespoons. I usually put about half a small container of cottage cheese in a mix containing 4-5 pancakes.
