Just wondering if any of you do?

Personally I can't see the point in it as you can get fairly regular updates online for free, think the last time I bought the newspaper was back in 2003 when looking for a job and broadband hadn't been introduced yet :)

I buy all my spapers second hand. No newspapers for me.

I buy it when i'm in work because i don't have net access there. Other than that i wouldn't bother.

I get the Indo or the Times depending on my mood.

    Maybe, but not News Corp.

The Irish Times on a Friday (week's business news) and, sometimes, on a Saturday (good book reviews). The health supplement in the same paper on a Tuesday can also be very good.

Other than that I'd never buy a newspaper. Sunday is awful, absolutely awful with the Sunday Independent easily being the worst newspaper in Ireland's history. No context. Unspeakably woeful tabloid dross altogether.

Most people here seem to be avid readers of the Daily Mail..:D

Pretty rarely. Would take a notion and get i (the cheapo edition of the UK independent) now and again but usually Im not anywhere near a shop before the evening so it doesnt make sense for me most days.

Dunno how anyone in Ireland affords to get newspapers everyday what with the price of any of the decent ones. And I cant for the life of me figure out why anyone buys the Sundays.

Mostly just get the Irish times on saturday, But if any thing gossippy or exciting (imo)happening I can be tempted to buy any newspaper anyday.

    NOTW not a newspaper.

Its nothing more than a badly produced porno mag that for some reason one can get away with taking into the canteen at work or even home to the missus.

One can say what they like about real porn but at least it is honest as to its purpose.

We buy two regional newspapers, Irish Times, Examiner, Sunday Times and SBP.

The days of the little kid on the street shouting "EXTRA, EXTRA, READ ALL ABOUT IT" are coming to an end. Never see them lads anymore.

The Examiner has won a number of awards for special investigation reports, I think it is good paper and I like its layout.

I don't buy, I'm a library gal, and can frequently be found among the elders at a communal table in the local library perusing the times, or just polishing my nails of a lunch break. :D

And I prefer to read a real copy, rather than online, because for some reason, articles of interest ONLINE never really jump out at me? whereas in a real paper, they do. Maybe that has something to do with hierarchy?

That is not to say that I have never bought a newspaper, or will never buy one again, but the above is just what I more commonly prefer to do.

Used to buy the Guardian to read with breakfast in work before I got started, but hours have changed so that's kind of been knocked on the head. Still get the Saturday Guardian and/or the Observer on the odd weekend day.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 3,089 ✭✭✭ascanbe

I take the Irish Times quite often. I don't buy it, mind, i take it: even though i do pay money for it.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 5,641 ✭✭✭Teyla Emmagan

Buy the Irish Times about 4 times a week and the Daily Mail about the same amount (I've given up buying magazines so it fulfils my rubbish requirement :)). I also buy the Observer/Guardian/Sunday Times most weekends. I don't have a TV and I don't like reading articles online, so that's how I get all my news.

Daily Mail about the same amount

    Why?

What's the reason for being reasonable?

    Is that an unreasonable question?

I used to buy two a day, morning and evening and the Indo and an English paper on Sunday also the local rag weekly. Now only the Indo on Saturday and Sunday. Catch up with all news and sport online.

As mentioned in another thread recently HERE:

Its cheaper than the Irish Times.
Far superior site structure-wise, greater massive content and great reporting.
I can honestly say, its well worth it.

    Also:
    * Their research is thorough, with facts, figures, its sources and related topics, clearly laid out on on the same page at times.
    * Every story comes with related links with individual summaries (this aids/speeds up research greatly).
    * Their search engine is very accurate.
    * Their site content in VERY huge and sub-divided into many but clear areas.
    * Its like an encyclopaedic vault that is by the minute constantly updated.
    * They give away some serious free stuff.
    * They are more reasonable in price than others of less quality.
    * There is far less inflated celeb crap (Jordan/Britney/Lohan, etc... VERY rarely get a mention)
    * There is NO adverts or pop-ups intruding ANYWHERE.

The irish indo is bought most days at home and the sunday indo on sunday. We get the farmers journal, the tuam herald and the Connaught tribune too. Also the galway advertiser but that's free.

Personally I like to read Irish news mostly with a bit of world news too. In general the lack of Irish news puts me off english papers. The most papers I like to read are the local papers as I like to read about stuff happening locally.

Rather have a real newspaper than read it online

I am old fashioned like that

    Heres what i buy

Irish Times on a friday for the business

Daily Mail good health section on a tuesday

The sun on a saturday good for english racing

    You have a point.
I however also like the aspect that I can read Irish news from a number of Irish sources on the web and besides that, from The Times, I hope to get a more (hopefully) impartial report that might be not under the direct influence of any one Irish Party at home.

I don't buy my local paper 1, 'cos its a rip off price-wise and 2. its 70% approx full of advertising - besides filled up with regurgitated locals pictures that monthly think they are something special - which they are not.

Buy the local rag and will purchase a racing post if going racing but otherwise would just use internet. If I've to get the bus somewhere like today I'll buy a rag to read on it.

I usually get The Irish Times or The Irish Independent and the local paper. I get the Sunday Times and the sunday independent on Sundays.

As for websites, I usually just look at the independent and the mail. I know the mail gets a lot of slagging but there website is free and it's well laid out. You know by the headlines which articles to not even bother reading.

    Cork Examiner

    It's a good daily paper
Has a new name but people still call it the old name, same thing and it doesn't matter

    It is a good website

The articles are good but the headlines are often crazy and not connected to the story
    As for the comments :D
It could be a story on Diet Coke, potholes, mars bars, xbox, or any random topic and it's the EU and the immigrants to blame

They have beautiful pictures on the site and I was looking at photos on the English countryside
"This won't last long with mass immigration...."

If you like nature photos and animals and wildlife they always have good photos

I think you should get this looked at poste haste. If the duffle coat is 4' from collar to hem ........ then your inside leg must be about 46". That should be Guinness Book of Records stuff. On the other hand (:D), if your inside leg is the average 31", then your erect Monsigneur must be about 20" long (taking sag into account and angle of 147.5*). This should also be GB of R material. Of course you could be fibbing. Or the bottom of the coat is draping the floor. :p
