Charity Row - Is this plausible?

Myself and a few friends are planning on raising money for charity near the end of the Summer and are coming up with preliminary ideas. One of my friends suggested rowing from Doolin in Clare to the Aran Islands (approx 5 miles). We'll be doing the charity event at the end of August which means we wouldn't exactly have a lot of time to practice and as none of us have any real experience rowing (a couple of us have rowed before but nothing major) I don't really think it's a plausible idea. There's 5 (maybe 6) planning on raising the money (but we don't necessarily have to row together if we choose to row).

Does anyone have any opinions on this? Could we do it? Can anyone give an idea as to how long it would take?

Obviously I'll talk to someone qualified in these things at a later date if we decide it's plausible but I'd just like ye're opinions to see if it's worth looking into.

[If this is the wrong forum Sorry, feel free to move it.]

Hi seachmall, I don't think a 5 mile row will get people excited as it should only take about an hour and I'm sure local fishermen have been doing that for many years and lifting pots in between.:D

How about carrying a curragh on your back for 5 miles :D
Or carry it right way up up and down your main street or beach so people can see the pain on your face as they throw coins into the boat making it heavier and heavier, maybe have a prize for the person who adds the final coin that break's the guy's back
Get in touch with local radio and newspaper and let people know what day it's on and what registered charity it's for also let the local authorities know what you are doing.
Best of luck with it :)

Oh, so it is plausible but too easy? Wasn't expecting that :D

I think skydiving has taken the lead in terms of ideas though (we were talking last night), thanks for your reply though :)

The thing about skydiving is if you are not successful the first time, give it up:D

You would have to make sure the parachute will support the currach though. Interesting idea...:)
