Giving up...

    Just wondering...

How do people cope when they just feel like giving up on their diets?

Like when there's loads of nice (fattening) food around and your thinking whats the point! Is there something you think of to inspire some will power?

    Please share.. :(

I think of two things to stay away from my weakness (the Kit Kat).

    1. My ex girlfriend. Thinking that the next time she sees me I am going to look fitter than when I was with her.

    2. Girls I want to impress in the future.

It might or might not be a little childish but the main thing is that its the difference between me saying "ah sure ill just have the one" and turning my back on them completely!

    Damn you to hell Nestle!!!

    wow your insane!! :)

Motivation: being fit and healthy and feeling strong!! Its ok to have a chocolate bar now and again, if not everyday, just one mind and just make sure to stick to the rest of the diet. Maybe do a small amount of cardio after/before your workout to burn it off ha
I often have a bar, not everyday but a couple of times a week, i do train hard though, 4-5 times a week.
Life is life, be realistic, enjoy it, enjoy your bar, enjoy working out too, enjoy the diet, there is some lovely meals to be had out there, my only gripe is the diet can be somewhat expensive on the pockets!!

    enjoy & train hard!!

i don't think it's insane at all, bitterness and vanity are great motivators!

does anyone do the picture thing?

One of my friends completely covered the inside of her wardrobe door in pictures of ridiculously skinny models!

There is a fat person inside all of us dying to escape and it is our job to surpress him/her!:)

Moderation is the key - don't cut out all calorie rich foods just be a bit more sensible etc.

Have a clean, healthy diet - Mon-Fri and relax it a little on Sat-Sun but get back on it from Monday.

In some cases the increase in cals on the weekend (within reason) can enhance you metabolism.

Does your diet allow for little breaks during the week?
i.e. One or two times in a week where you can have something "nice" without feeling like you are breaking everything?

    They are important.

Also that wardrobe door thing is mental if you ask me.
    Mental and dangerous.

It helps me to stay off the junk food by thinking of food in purely calorific terms.

You should definitely be having a treat every now & then. You can't eat like an angel all the time. I had quite a lot of bbq food this weekend but i don't feel guilty in the slightest because a. i know i will be eating healthy all week & b. i know i will be doing excercise all week.

In my opinion you have to have something seriously greasy or sugary at least once every 2 weeks as long as your putting in the effort with your diet & exercise.

Just think of short term pleasure Vs long term gain.

Stops me from eating junk though tbh I don't miss it anyway.

I think that it gets easier the more you stick to the diet for example I started cutting out a lot of junk/high calorie/fatty foods a while back and started eating really well. now I dont notice it and I would see fruit as a really enjoyable snack.

Now I was always more of a savoury person than sweet so I never really consumed a lot of sugary drinks or sweets and chocolate, however giving up the crisps was challenging!

But at the same time I don't punish myself, if I really want a bar/bag of crisps/ takeaway etc I will have one (weekends) because I know I have done the exercise and eaten properly all week and will do so again the following week.

You are more likely to stick to your diet if you involve your favourite treat every now and again!

I was thinking of having a little reward system like if I reach a certain weight goal I get a night off? Would that be any good or would it just cancel out my healthy eating!

lots of people have a cheat day/night-your metabolism will slow down if you run on empty for too long.
Having 1 night a week off is no harm, it also stop mental burnout too which can be the biggest challenge of all

I'm always afraid if I have a cheat night and get a takeaway or something and maybe have some chocolate or crisps that it'll just cancel out my good week! Maybe I'll just have one once a month...I need one soon anyway!

whatever works for you go with it, 3 tips that Ive found helpfull
1-decide on a plan and stick to it, if its once a month then its once a month, dont go changing it on the fly just based on a craving,

2-dont jump from step A straight to step Z when reducing calories, give yourself room for progression from week to week

Being able to take my 4 year old out, put my runners on and run around playground for an hour until both of us have no energy left. Being good role model for him is my main goal. I often end up having 10 kids running after us in front of the amuzed parents (and so many overweight) that sit on the bench wondering am I mad or something.

    Fitting well in my clothes

I came very close to giving up today! I had two small glasses of wine and I kept thinking what is the point I'm after ruining today by having wine! Then I was considering coming home and eating a large amount of chocolate and leaving the diet for another time....but now I'm eating a bowl of fruit instead..still tempted though!

I generally have to be a nazi to myself because like you I get stuck in the "I've messed up slightly now, so what's the point, I've ruined it all thing :(" which is very unhealthy in reality. Enjoy your wine and your fruit salad and hold off on the choc til another day. Or else have it and go for a nice big run. :)
