    I live 43 km away from the college and the total earnings of my family are 130 euro over the limit to get the full grant... I included my earnings, my mams earnings and my dad's dole, would you reckon there is a chance of getting the full grant?

    Probably not but its hard to say for certain - I would say you would probably get the 75% adjacent rate

    It was so much easier to blame it on Them. It was bleakly depressing to think that They were Us. If it was Them, then nothing was anyone's fault. If it was us, what did that make Me? After all, I'm one of Us. I must be. I've certainly never thought of myself as one of Them. No one ever thinks of themselves as one of Them. We're always one of Us. It's Them that do the bad things.

    Apologies if this is a stupid question, don't know much about the process. But what is the means limit this year if you are your parents only dependent. I think it was 41k last year?

    You need original documents for your birth cert. Don't worry about the course acceptance form until you get it. Yes just stick it all in the post

    I have applied for my grant just waiting to hear back. However since I'm finishing up work in about a week I think I may be able to get the special grant top up due to change of circumstances?

    Just wondering do I need to notify my county council about this change of circumstance before 31st aug? Or does this deadline not apply in this case??

    Hi,

    Need some advice please!

    On the 1st of October 2010 I was in the UK seeking work (not receiving welfare) but I do not have any bills or government post to prove my address
    I returned to my parents house mid October and started to receive welfare.
    I then moved to Dublin in March (taking a part-time low paid job just to get off dole and out or parents house). I am still in Dublin about to hand in notice so I can start masters.

    Question is does this mean I will be assessed as:
    1) dependent on parents because I lived in their house for part of October 2010 and until March 2011?
    2) adjacent to the college because I now live in Dublin?

    If so this means I will get hardly any grant and will probably have to forget the masters. It seems like I am getting punished for moving out of home and getting off the dole by taking on a low paid job and paying rent and surviving on practically nothing for last 6 months! If I stayed at home on dole I would get full grant now
    Seems like I've really screwed things up for myself :(

    Have I got it right? Any advice appreciated! Thanks

    I'm trying to figure out how to prove residency for the 3 of the last 5 years. I read what it says in the notes but i'm still kind of confused. I finished my leaving cert three years ago and have no bills etc in my name. Anyone have any idea what I should send? Would judt a copy of my leaving cert results be enough? So confused :confused:

    Just a quick question, I know that the new Grant Scheme for 2011 states that to apply as an independent mature student, you must have a break of three years to apply. However, I've spoken to a number of people who are unsure about this. I have never applied for a student grant prior to this year as I would have been assessed on my parents income and would not have qualified. Therefore as I was never technically a candidate for the grant prior to this application, does this 3 year rule definately apply? Thanks!

    Leaving cert results and anything else you can find from the list

    Documentary evidence for residency for 3 out of the last 5 years
    This may be one or more of the following:
    • evidence that the applicant sat the Junior Certificate and Leaving Certificate exams in
    Ireland, or equivalent school exams in the EU, EEA or Switzerland;
    • a letter from a school principal in Ireland, the EU, EEA or Switzerland confirming the
    applicant’s attendance at a school;
    • social welfare statements or equivalents from the EU, EEA or Switzerland;
    • utility bills;
    • registration with the Private Residential Tenancies Board (PRTB), or equivalent from
    the EU, EEA or Switzerland;
    • if the applicant is a non-EEA national, a letter from the Department of Justice and
    Equality confirming the period of lawful presence in Ireland. Periods of unlawful
    presence cannot be considered.

    Hi, quick question to do with proof of home address...

    I've been living in rented accomodation since March '10. No Lease signed though and all the bills are in another girls name, we just pay her. I've no official documentation going to this address either, I just left such as going to my parents address.
    Do you think a letter from the landlord confirming I have been a tenant from March 10 and still am a tenant would suffice?

    Thanks.

    i doubt it as they require you to have bills in your name. if you had post going to the house in yourname it might have helped, and if the landlord had you registered with PRTB that might have helped too, but since you just paid a girl the rent, it sounds like there is no proof you were there apart from the landlord's word.
    which for the grant office, wont suffice.

    It took the DLROCOCO just 3 days to get back to me once I handed in my docs to say I have been accepted to F1 to be given full fees grant. They however didnt give me any indication of the maintenance grant other than saying :

    If you have made an application for the Back-to-Education Allowance to the Department of Social Protection and have not been successful, please submit the letter from the department to us to enable us to re-assess you for the Maintenance Grant.

    I told them though that I had not even applied for BTEA so i emailed back saying as much. Is this just a standard email response from them?

    Looks like they are giving you a fee only grant and no maintenance

    Quick Question :;

    I'm applying as an Independant Mature Student. Do I still need to fill in my parents incomes on the form even though I receive no financial support from them ?

    No - if you are an independent mature student your parents income is irrelevant.
    (3) In this scheme an “independent student” means a mature student who did not ordinarily reside with his or her parents, or either of them, from 1 October of the year before the first point of entry to an approved post leaving certificate course or an approved higher education course or re-entry to an approved course.
    (4) “Mature student” means a student who on 1 January—
    (a) in the year of entry for the first time to an approved post leaving certificate course;
    (b) in the year of entry for the first time to an approved higher education course (other than a course known for the time being as a post leaving certificate course); or
    (c) in the year of re-entry to an approved course, is at least 23 years old.

    yeah its a weird one as i didnt ticked no for applying for BTEA on their form...

    they told me that even if you are not eligible for BTEA you must get a letter from social welfare saying that you arent applying for BTEA. slightly annoying, hope it doesnt put me back down the line in the queue

    Think I'll sent in the application anyway with a cover letter explaining and the landlords letter and copy bills which are in my housemates name. I might as well try, nothing to lose really. Thanks for your prompt response by the way.

    Hi all
    My grant application is done (I applied online) and almost all my documents are ready to sent to VEC. However what I am waiting for is the social welfare letter with all the detalis about my income from the JB from 2010 and acceptance letter from the IT.
    Should I wait with posting my documents or just send everything now and then just send them the last remaning ones later?:rolleyes:

    I had the same problem, but once I rang my local VEC I was told that I should send them the application form, and include all the documents that I haven't receveid yet in the aditional notes..and send the documents once I would get them.

    Depends on if your diploma is recognised as a level 6 or 7
