    Time : 16:00

    Venue: Croke Park

    Odds: Kilkenny 4/11 Dublin 5/2 Draw 10/1

Well, so much for the most eagerly anticipated Leinster Final for 15 years. Wednesday evening and still no thread about this one.

As far as injuries are concerned its a bit of a role reversal with Kilkenny only missing the 2 long term absentees Aidan Fogarty and John Tennysson while Dublin have a few missing. Notably Tomas Brady(ACL) and Ryan O'Dwyer (suspended) to go with Stephen Hiney who is out for the year.

A lot has been made of the 3 matches between the sides already this season but to my mind the only relevant one was the league final. The key difference between this game the the league final is that while winning the league meant a lot more to Dublin than it did to Kilkenny, this time around the Leinster championship will be crucial if Kilkenny are to mount a serious challenge for the All Ireland. For Dublin their goals for the year have already been achieved and they are in bonus territory now with a guaranteed All Ireland Quarter final place at least.

I'll stick the teams up when they are announced but I don't anticipate too many surprises.

For this reason I'd expect Kilkenny to come out on top but to be honest I don't think there will be much between the teams at the final whistle (Though I said that before the league final as well!!)

Personally I think we'll see a completely different Kilkenny to the one that was in the league final. That final reminded me of the one they played against Waterford a few years ago in Thurles. That Kilkenny team looked like they hadn't left second gear much like the way they did against Dublin this year.

The championship is a totally different game and I can't see them losing to Dublin tough as much as I'd like to see it.Losing to Dublin in a Leinster final would hurt them too much and I don't like to say it but I think could be like lambs to the slaughter, though don't hold me to it.

Honestly i'd be delighted if Dublin get closer than they did a couple of years ago. That game was never in doubt. Kilkenny will obviously be a different beast from the league final but if Dublin apply themselves i don't see Kilkenny destroying them. That bit genius-experience they have will see them over the line though.

Having said all that 5/2 on Dublin is big.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 7,706 ✭✭✭premierstone

I really think Dublin are sitting ducks for this one, the three players you have mentioned and also Treacey are all big loses, KK will be smarting from the League final and they have almost all the big guns back.

Dublins two championship performances have actually been quite poor, they were hanging on against a depleted Offaly side and Galway put in one of their worst performances in recent memory and were still in with a shout with ten minutes to go, Dublin have improved massively no question, but they still lack a killer instinct and that bit of composure in front of goal, the final ten minutes of the league final apart.

Persoanlly I think KK -4 @6/5 with PP is massive and have had quite a cut at it. That said KK's FB line is a definite weakness and can be exploited so there is hope for Dublin and if the likes of Dotsy and Paul Ryan are on a going day they could do it, they wont be getting my €'s though!

KK by 6 + points. Dublin really need all their players fit and KK owe them one after the League Final. I'd love to see Dublin do it, but can't see it happening.

Definitely agree that KK -4 is a great bet.

I think Dublin will be blown away by a hungry Kilkenny team hell bent on revenge. Dublin are a good young team, but I think rumours of KK's demise are greatly exaggerated!

    :L:L

Being from Munster I havn't much against Dublin, or at least certainly not the hurlers. Might change if they beat Waterford a few times :D

Can't see beyond a practically full strength Kilkenny team being written off, against Dublin, the kind of motivation they dearly need at this stage which should be enough to see the reaction Cody will be looking for!

Made a nice few euro on Dublin in the League final and also against Galway last week. Tables are turned with injuries this time and while I think Dublin are on the up , they would probably need all their players to beat Kilkenny. Dublin don't score goals and the cats do , but I would say KK are a bit nervous and I might have a few small bets on the Dubs, just for the value and interest and they don't owe me anything. :p

Personally I think Dublin will be squashed here. I'm thinking a big statement from KK is due. They will be well up for this.

Too many exaggerations with Kilkenny. The demise is stupid and so is this great performance against Wexford.

    Kilkenny by 8 for me.

I think the injuries and suspension will have a major impact on Dublins performance so in gonna go with a win for Kilkenny. Although 5/2 for Dublin on PP doesn't look too bad

Hard to see beyond KK in this one, although the Dubs will push them hard. KK's forwards will be the difference by about 6 or 7 points.

Do ya think so? There's a reason bookies make money. In spite of saying you think Kilkenny will win, you say it's a good price. Everyone else so far on this thread has said Kilkenny will win. My advice: Don't back Dublin.

Are people that far removed from reality that they actually believe that Dublin are Kilkennys equal or superior when it comes to championship hurling?

Sure did'nt Dublin beat Tipp last year in the league as well before they got a lesson from Antrim (yes ANTRIM!) in the championship?

The Dubs will know all about proper hurling when the dust settles on Sunday evening.Of that you can be sure folks.

I don't know where anyone said Dublin are the superior side but thats very gracious of you anyway. You won't need it of course but good luck on Sunday.

kilkenny by at least 6pts methinks, but make no mistake the gap is closing ,its a joy to see so many kids on the streets and parks around dublin with hurleys in there hands.i hope im wrong but i think dublin need another 2-3 yrs to seriously chalenge the likes of kilkenny and tipp .

I'm really looking forward to this match (I would have created the thread except I'm travelling in the US at the moment!).

It'll be a great test for both sides, KK are hungry for revenge after the league final demolition and Dublin will find out how good they really are.
With the critical injuries that Dublin have, KK should be able to win this but I still think it will be a tight game.

Flying back into Ireland on Saturday and heading up to Croke Park on Sunday, can't wait! :)

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 2,528 ✭✭✭dcr22B

I think most of us Dubs are being realistic about what Sunday might hold in store for us.

I don't want it to sound like I'm throwing in the towel before the game itself but the injuries/suspensions we've suffered have weakened the spine of our team (Brady, Boland, Hiney and Dwyer) and while we have ample cover for the individuals named above, you'd really have to fancy a ravenous KK side who'll be gunning for revenge after the League final.

KK to win by between 3-5 points for me and a memorable performance from the Dubs to give us a good platform heading into the quarter finals would be good enough for me.

That said, there's no reason why the players themselves shouldn't believe that they can do it. 12 months ago, the Cats handed us down a 19 point defeat in the Leinster semi final and 10 months later, we dished out a 12 point defeat to a fairly similar starting 15 (albeit KK were missing Shefflin, Tommy Walsh and Richie Power).

Looking forward to this massively and hopefully our minors will do the business against their KK opposition.

Joey Boland is a confirmed starter on Sunday so at least that's one player back in the team.

I knew that alright despite what I had posted.

I just hope he can step right up to the pace despite not having hurled in two months.

I think this game may be even more important for KK than Dublin. If KK loose they will probably end up playing Tipp in an AI semi-final (As I see Tipp winning Munster) and I would doubt that KK would win an AI by loosing a game. It could also increase the decline from a few years ago - no team, not even KK can maintain that level of hurling that we seen in 2007/2008.

Dublin need to keep the ball moving fast into the forward line as the one thing that KK backs don't like is attackers with pace. Also I think it would be a mistake for Daly to put Keanry on Tommy Walsh as it would be a watse of Dublin's best forward and as long as Walsh broke even in this battle, then KK would be very happy with that. If they put someone on him that was good in the air, but they didn't rely on as much as Keaney, I think that would be the best option.

KK, even after all that, to win by about 5 or 6. So long as it doesn't turn into the Leinster final of 2 years ago where KK were keeping Dublin at bay at their ease and there was a sense of inevitability about the end result.

Forgot he was missing as well.

Is he still a doubt for Sunday with the chipped bone he has?

  • Closed Accounts Posts: 5,851 ✭✭✭Mountainlad

Did he not play against Wexford. Someone told me he wouldn't be but I thought I heard him mentioned watching the Sunday Game that night. Maybe it was Colin Fennelly not sure.

He played against wexford alright but I think he is listed as doubtful but I'd say he will play. Team should be named tonight.

Have Dublin named their team yet?

It will be really interesting to see how Dublin perform in this one. I think this game will be the real test of where this Dublin team are at. The win over Galway was a step in the right direction but Galway were so bad that you have to, in horseracing terms, question the merit of the form.

Kilkenny on Sunday will be a different proposition. If Dublin can win this one they'll have announced their arrival as a really serious team. But are they good enough to beat what will I'd imagine be a rejuvenated Kilkenny team? I'm not so sure. For me Kilkenny and Tipp are still a fair bit ahead of everyone else, though I'd be happy enough to be proven wrong on Sunday if that's the way it turns out.

It's funny how when Dublin win all the attention is on how bad the other team were rather than considering Dublin to be a team capable of beating the very best.

I think Dublin are now a serious force and will give anybody a game. The only reason I'm confident about Kilkenny is all the players Dublin are missing.

Looking at the Kilkenny team it will be interesting to see if TJ Reid switches to mid field or will he be left at half forward?

The team looks strong enough and a few good players to come from the bench covering most positions (Paddy Hogan, John Dalton, Cha Fitzpatrick, Eddie Brennan).

Should be a good day, with the same teams in the minor match, hopefully the weather holds up.

Yeah, but it was the same after the league final, it reminds me a bit of when Offaly first came on the scene whenever they would beat Kilkenny or Wexford the losers would take almighty criticism from within the county and it was only after Offaly won all Irelands that I think they got the credit they deserved.

As a Dub living in Kilkenny you can imagine the joy I had going to work on the Monday after the league final Would love to have the same joy this Monday, but with the big guns back in the Kilkenny team and the embarrassed faces in the town after the league final they are gunning for us. Can't wait for the games tomorrow stomach in knots already.

Odds on Dublin are pretty poor i think.

    +4 points and they're 11/10:mad:

    Feckin bookies.

+8 points and i'd bite their hand off...

Really looking forward to this one. A stern test of just how far Dublin have come under Daly. I would hope they take on Kilkenny man for man, and don't adopt their often used tactic of dropping back Liam Rushe as a sweeper. Dublin's passing game has come on in leaps and bounds and they used the handpass to great effect against Galway. They'll need at least 20 points to win and this is not unattainable. Given how tight their backs were against Galway and the work rate guys like Peter Kelly and Liam Rushe showed in closing down Joe Canning and Cyril Donnellan, i would give Dublin more than a fighting chance of dethroning Kilkenny today.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 2,528 ✭✭✭dcr22B

I know it's an age old cliche but goals win games and that's where we have struggled this year. If we can break even with KK on goals scored we have a massive chance but I just don't feel that confident.

    Anyway, enough of the negativity!

€35 for the stand and €20 for the Hill. The minors are on at 2 and the seniors at 4.

There is usually a van selling tickets on the Drumcondra Road junction with Clonliffe Road, more or less across from Quinns pub. There won't be anymore than 60,000 at the game today so you should be able to get a ticket.

According to the GAA website, match tickets for today's game can be also be bought at the following locations:

GAA Ticket Shop Dorset Street - Located on 53A Lower Dorset Street
GAA Ticket Shop on NCR - Located opposite Gill's Pub at the Junction of North Circular Road and Jones Road
GAA Ticket Outlet Ballybough - Located at the end of Clonliffe Road at junction with Ballybough Road.

Dublin well on top at half time in the minor final, leading 1-8 to 0-6.
They would be even further in front except that they've hit a good few wides.

Were you not left with a sufficiently red face last week ?

Your posts are kinda funny. No other poster has such a deep rooted, vitriolic, and irrational hatred of Dublin in both codes as you do. most other anti-Dub posters reserve their ire for the football team and leave it at that.
