Driving and dining = not healthy!

    Hi all,

    Im totally zapped of all energy because for the past week all I did was work, then drive and sleep (8 hours work and 5 hours driving every day - my husband was in hospital in Dublin). I drank a lot of "energy drinks" ate a lot of junk (you know the type of stuff you buy when you are getting the petrol for the car....) and now, its the weekend - hes home thankfully - all I want to eat is carbohydrates - chocolate, pasta, sandwiches etc.

    I will be in a similar situation in 3 weeks time - 5 hour drives and falling into bed in the wee-hours. I would like to change my travel-dining habits though. Any quick-snack petrol-station purchase suggestions???? (trying to wean myself off "stimulation drinks" here!!!) or nice easy-to-eat-while driving stuff????

    Im not a fussy eater and will eat almost anything - just lack of time and planning has made me very unhealthy!

    Fruit and nuts. Bring them with you before you leave. It's ten seconds prep to grab them on your way out the door. Petrol station crap is to be avoided (apart from being very expensive :)).

    As already said, far better to bring good stuff with you than be trying to eat correctly out of filling stations.

    If need must though, you'll find water, fruit, nuts, and the like there. Even vegetables sometimes (carrots, tomatoes, etc).
    You can usually find something not too undesirable in the deli counter too if you're reasonably lucky; turkey, chicken, ham, beef can be bought loose.
    Not the cheapest way of buying them and likely not the best of organic grass-fed either, but better than packets of biscuits and breakfast rolls.
