    Hey lads,
Lurking for a good while just looking for some opinions on where to go, if you could do either of these three(or none and you'd do different) would you do

    1)WS4SB3
    2)5/3/1
    3)Bill Starr's 5x5

keeping in mind its for rugby that i am training and id like to get the most out of myself strength wise between now and christmas,

questions on diet are partly irrelevant as I'm changing diet this week to coincide with the new program, so previous diet is irrelevant i feel, i could tell you what i plan to be a typical days eating. Id also say that 210 is the weight id like to get to between now and xmas, shouldn't be too hard I'm already 190, however id like to make a big improvement in my lifts, I'm just back from an 8week break due to injury and i haven't tested my lifts yet that's tomorrow. Any feed back would be great.

    Bill Starr's 5x5, definitely.

I don't like 5/3/1, and most people don't possses the knowledge or access to equipment to apply WS4SB properly.

I think WS4SB version 1 is quite straight-forward and ideal if training a sport other days of the week

I'd go with WS4SB - I've used it and was impressed with the results.

I know you've discussed it before in other threads, but why is it you dont like 5/3/1, and can i just ask what you mean by knowledge to apply WS4SB??

@ King of Kings, can i ask what you mean by results?? weight gain, increased strength, muscle mass, box jump??

thanks for the replies lads, my only worry about starrs 5x5 is squatting 3 times a week whilst training twice a week and then when the season starts matches, I got one of the calculators(i know its only a reference) but I'm liking the numbers for a 12 week training cycle

    l

I do kickboxing and chinese martial arts

    - I found I was stronger with better endurance. Recovery between rounds was better as a result I was stronger and faster in later rounds than previously.

And I did put on weight over a 12 week period but lost on the waistline as my jeans were looser - prob not 100% scientific but it does me.

what I really liked about it was that I felt like a getting a good workout in the gym with results but I wasn't bollixed when doing martial arts with DOMS or general triedness - whcih has happened on other programs.

But all that said - many factors can come into play during a program - diet, sleep , general health. But i know I got results from WS4SB 1 and I'd defo do it again.

+1 to this. There are a few different flavours of Bill Starrs routine, but I like the "power" one. The first one listed here:

Hanley, what happened to you never reccomending a routine?? :)

He's going to do one of those 3, he may as well do the least worse!

I'd go with starting strength or Bill starrs 5x5 which seems to be much the same. I wouldn't really consider 5/3/1 a strength training program as such. I did it before for a number of months. I got quite a bit bigger but don't think my max lifts went up really and my squat especially went to sh1te.

I have yet to get the powerclean right and i don't like doing something wrong it just annoys me, so until fundage for some coaching frees itself up ill just have to do the normal bill starrs 5x5 (tbh for rugby i could see that the power routine would be better but like i said I'm not competent at the lifts)

Is there another program you would recommend or is it more a personalised program for the person that you would prefer??
