    Hi all,

I have a last min holiday coming up in 10 days with my bf of a year, its going to be our first holiday together. I'm a bit anxious as i've changed jobs a while ago and been crazy busy and stressed so my figure has gone a little outside my comfort zone. I'd really like to do what i can in the next few days to improve wherever possible to be a bit more confident on the beach. So far i'm doing 40 sit ups a day-20 morning and 20 in the night and have ditched snacks for fruit. I don't have access to a gym and my busyness isn't going to lessen anytime soon. But i will be 100% trying to do this as i'm nearly crying thinking of going on this trip. My tummy used to be toned but its a bit flabby now, thighs and upper arms have no definition and i feel make me look porky. And the usual bum too big issues lol!

So i know its asking a lot and i know i can't do the impossible but i will be so grateful for ANY ideas or tips!!! Thanks xxx

You are not going to be able to do much to change your appearance in ten days, and certainly not by doing 40 sit ups a day. Your best bet is to try drop a couple of pounds eating healthily, lots of fibre, veggies, whole grains and restrict carbs/sugars and alcohol.

I dont know what level of fitness you have, but aim for a brisk walk or jog each day before the holiday. try and spend at least 50 mins each day doing cardio vascular activity.

As regards the sit ups, keep doing them, no harm, but dont expect to see huge improvements in ten days. at least by doing the cardio you will feel and look alot fresher and you might be able to shift a little excess water weight before hand which may mean all the difference for your confidence. enjoy.

    +1

Give it a REALLY good go for the next 10 days, don't eat any crap. You'll at least look less bloated after lots of veg and lean meats and very little carbs.

Thanks so much for replies. I'm more focusing on trying to look a bit more toned than weight loss. I was always a toned 10 now i'm a non toned/flabby 12. The one dress size i've gone up doesn't bother me but i feel the less toned appearance makes me look a little chubby sometimes. I'm going to focus on diet and brisk walk/run. Is salmon and steamed veg a good food do you think? And wholegrain everything is what i tend to go to.

I'm going to take iron and b12 supplements too although i may have missed the boat on what it can do for me before trip but hopefully will help somehow.

Someone reccommended a slendertone to me? I'm not too sure about that, would it actually be any good?

theres a contention with the term 'toning'. whilst I know what you mean, you cant 'tone' fat. You lose it. I guess what you mean is, you want to look leaner? If you want flat abs, you need to reduce the layer of fat over your ab muscle. Sit ups will strengthen the abs and combined with fat reduction through cardio you will look more 'toned'.As Hanley said, eat cleanly and you will at least look a little less bloated.

How will they help somehow? If you are deficient in these micronutrients, then they will help, or iron supps are good at 'that time of the month'. If this is not the case and if you are eating lots of veggies/fruit as suggested you should get all your vits and minerals in naturally. over vitamin supplementation can prove toxic. Also too much iron can make things 'difficult' at the end of the digestive cycle. Not pretty. Salmon, wholegrans, veggies all excellent clean foods, replace the white carbs (white rice, bread, pasta) with brown alternatives.

As for slendertone, they personally make me irrationally angry. I have never used one. Thats not to say that they dont work. But I have yet to meet a person with a six pack who has put the results down to one of those things. stick with the sit ups, they're cheaper

To get the most out of your 10 days I would leave out the fruit and wholegrains, neither of those are going to aid weight loss. Stick with plenty of eggs, fish, lean meat, lots of veg, a few nuts and if you have to have fruit some berries, also stay hydrated and swap in green tea for some of your hot drinks. You should lose a few pounds and reduce bloating if that's an issue for you.

Like another poster said, what you call 'toning' is basically another word for losing fat and putting on muscle. I wouldn't worry too much about the ab exercises tbh, but there's no reason why you shouldn't do them either.

Just eat healthy and do your cardio.

buy clothes that fit well. Honestly - you won't get visible results in 10 days and there is nothing more depressing then clothes that make you feel fat on holiday.

Try to eat well before and during the holiday and stay active so you don't get holiday pounds on top of the once you already don't want.

Swimming is excellent exercise, walking, cycling.

This years holiday in Lanzarote I found local gym, where for 60 euro I could do as many classes as I want & jacuzzi, big outdoor pool and gym (I was there 10 days). I end up doing TRX classes, bodypump, spin early in the morning while my hubby sleeps - I am early bird. At night I went to salsa and more fun classes for an hour. For first time ever I didn't gain a pound and I felt fantastic! I also love swimming and found it really fun to look for ways to be acitve and took it as mission to come back from this holiday fit and happy (rather than fat and sad as I felt in previous years after 10 days of eating crap and drinking!).

Enjoy holiday, and leave all clothes that are bit tide for another time.

So i've been doing what you guys suggested, mainly changing my diet and have kept to no junk whatsoever over the last 5 days and having green tea instead of a coffee overload etc, and been doing about an hours brisk walk/run with a couple of exercies in between when nobody was around ;) and already i can feel a difference. My clothes are a bit looser and a few people have asked yesterday and today i fi've lost weight. I'm feeling much better and am very impressed!!! Will keep it up with another 20 mins a day run on top of what i was doing and hopefully will be feeling much more confident by Wednesday!!!!

So thanks so much for all your help, this really has meant a lot to me!!! :D
