"Why do they take the most sick leave? Women do in general. Why? Because once a month they have sick problems, not all of them but some do. They have children that they have to take leave of therefore their productivity...(it's) not their fault. It may be that they have not got it sorted with their partners where the partners take more responsibility for what happens outside work."

:pac: Sick leave? Really? Would that be the sick leave that all employees of whatever level get? That has what to do with anything?

Absenteeism as an issue is of course dealt with on a case-by-case basis. It's certainly not an excuse to pay an entire class of employees less. Taking leave that you're entitled to, though, is not abuse of that leave time.

What a joke. He's already apologized, but it does surprise me that someone in his position could cling to (let alone voice) such a ridiculous notion.

I do agree to a certain extent women are alot more likely to take the day off work to look after their kids if they're sick.

One could argue too that this is getting priorities straight. Mindlessly entering data in a grey cubicle V looking after my sick kid... I'll take the latter please Carol. I'd know a fair few if not all of the fathers I know that would take the latter too. Including a couple of real workaholics.

Rejoice in the awareness of feeling stupid, for that’s how you end up learning new things. If you’re not aware you’re stupid, you probably are.

Oh don't get me wrong I know not every woman takes the day off and not every father works endlessly but in my own experience men work longer hours, my father for example used to work as much overtime as he could when I was growing up which used to be a minimum of 20 or so a week

But was your Mam at home to look after you so he could?

Controversial view point unless you are only including paid employment as "work"...my mother-in-law hadn't ever had an official "job", she stayed at home with the kids leaving her husband free to work, unofficially child-minded more, did all the house-hold chores, dinner, shopping, kids bath and bed, homework, etc. Her working day started before her husbands and ended long after she handed him a ready-prepared dinner and he was sitting with his feet up.

Ironically, now he's been made redundant and she's got her first ever job and he has the dinner ready, washing hung-out & house clean for when she gets home. :D
