I see the old begrudgery is out in full force. Sounds like a bit of the Green eyed monster. So what if they have the Rugby connection, the fact is if they were shíte they wouldnt be getting repeat gigs.

I for one think they are quite good and its great to see some lads from Limerick making a name for themselves.

Wasn't even aware of a rugby connection to be honest. They play quite a bit in the Curragower and have been very good every time I seen them. Not quite sure what nights but im sure it would be advertised there.

Play in the office regularly too.

They usually play the Curragower on Sundays evenings, and a great way to pass a Sunday evening too..

I think they play in the Office on Saturdays and some Thursdays if I'm not mistaken. They update their Facebook page anyways with gigs...

The left handed guitar player with them is pretty good on the guitar....

jesus, get over yourself :rolleyes: I never said they were bad at all, read my post again.

Edit: I wonder if they were playing with Limerick FC would they get the same attention? So, what does that say about Limerick? Or am I just being too cynical???

A publican only cares about clientele spending money in his or her pub, period.

It seems one can't say "boo" about Limerick these days....

If they were only playing FIFA on xbox I'd still wanna go see em!! They're great craic, friendly and talented lads! Typical  If they were sh*te nobody would go see em! They're not being booked just because of Munster.

Seen them once live and thought they were a decent cover band. Actually did not know about the rugby connection until this thread, not that it makes any difference to my opinion about them as a cover band.

If they threw in a few Anthrax covers, it would be fantastic. No doubt the ciotóg could pull it off on his axe!

I watched their Rod Y Gab cover on youtube. This one always stood out (to me) as the better one in their set....

It's also a good sign, no matter what the comments are, when you get a thread started about you on boards........

@Chavways, yup. that's him. He's the best out of em imo...

    @SarahBeep, I don't believe you :)

"They're not being booked just because of Munster."

Then why does every gig poster for them have "Hermitage Green featuring Barry Murphy and Felix Jones of Munster"??

Magners League final: Hermitage Green featuring Munster V Leinster :):):)

    More power to 'em!

A mate of mine is friends with three of the lads in HG and apparently -
    1) They have never had a poster for a gig that mentioned Barry Murphy, Felix Jones or Munster rugby.
    2) They were never on stage before Mumford and Sons

So not only are you slightly begrudging them because of their reputations from rugby, you're actually criticising them for things they've never done! I really like the band, not because of their "muscles" and "rugby connection" but because they do something creative and original with their covers instead of churning out the same old stuff that other bands do. As a cover band they stand alone in that sense. Negative negative negative!!

    1) and 2) Yes they did. That's fact. Have you been living under a rock? They supported Mumford and Sons, and had posters in Dolans bigging up the rugby connection for other gig, as I saw it, which is fine, so you're talking through your a*s lad. Just Google an interview where they talk about supporting Mumford....
Are you sure your friend of a friend of a friend is really a mate, or met them once, and thinks he's a mate?:rolleyes:

I'll do it for you if you lsoe your way around the internet:

    http://www.limelitemag.ie/index.php?option=com_content&view=article&id=97:hermitage-green-interview&catid=49:interviews&Itemid=80

Nice Facepalm of a first post too!

Sorry thats not "fact"- what they were referring to in the Limelite interview was a spontaneous session that took place in a small room in Dolans upstairs after the Mumford & Sons gig- as far as I know three of the lads from HG got to jam with the band along with about 30 other very lucky people. Not a support slot. Im sure if you dig deep enough your proficient internet skills will find this is true (its spelt "lose" btw).
And the other gig you are talking about was a fundraiser for Munster strength & conditioning coach Paul Darbyshire who passed away last week. So the Munster connection on that poster would have been fairly necessary wouldnt it?
I eagerly look forward to your 1668th post- leading the way in slanderous, bitter contributions you are!

    Hi,

I play with Hermitage Green. The band did not support Mumford & Sons. We did support the Saw Doctors in Dolans a few weeks ago and played original material live for the first time, so maybe thats where you heard it.
The main reason I wanted to post was about people saying we make posters for our gigs saying "featuring Munsters' Barry Murphy and Felix Jones". This is something we would never ever do and goes against everything we are about... and we take offence to anyone proliferating that kind of nonsense to be honest.
And lastly, although Im no hoard of screaming girls- if the Limerick team came out and said they were starting a band Id be there with bells on for a look!

That's probably the best line-up of local musical talent I've ever seen for one event. Nice one.

Do these guys play more covers or originals at their recent gigs? Would like to go see them in the Academy in September either way just curious!

Haven't seen them in a few months, but it was ~4 originals and the rest covers last time I saw them. Their two originals on Youtube - Live on and Gibson - are really good songs and their covers are great.

I'd really recommend seeing them and if their gigs in Limerick are anything to go by, there'll be women everywhere.

which means nothing, you defo won't pull, as the women who will be there will only have eyes for "the arms".... :);)

they're at the Electric Picnic too, though can't say I'll be out of bed to go and see them at the hour they are on....

They have gigs coming up at Electric Picnic and The Academy surely they are playing original stuff for these gigs?

I kinda warmed to them as a cover band my friends mad into them but the crowd is a bit girly girls L4'S kinda vibe

L4.Yeah, I see what you mean. I wonder how a gig would go down if they just did originals. As in, they are well known now for their covers. Can they make the switch? Hopefully they'll go down aright at the Picnic. Most people there won't have a clue who they are, but that's the joy of a festival, just stumbling on a band you don't know....

I would hope that a band in the Academy and EP would be trumping the original music card.....

The girls love em, they can play and sing a bit, always put in the effort to perform. They seem to pull in the punters. If I owned a pub, I'd book em.

The look good in photo, seem to carry themselves well, so promotion will be a breeze. The music seems to hit that right balance which has wide "demographic" appeal.

I reckon they will go down a storm in Boston & NY. With the right promotion, who knows?

Mind you, not my cuppa tea but more luck to them

Theres some great Limerick and Irish bands that would not get near Electric Picnic or the Academy after a year so they must have something original going on

How do you mean they "Bring it"?

  • Closed Accounts Posts: 7,863 ✭✭✭seachto7

This is what I am saying. A GREAT rep as a covers band. PLaying a set full of original music is a TOTALLY different thing. Not saying they can't do it, but the vibe changes immediately. For example, SMyths is always covers bands, as that's what the crowd want in there. An original band wouldn't work in there....

  • Moderators, Social & Fun Moderators, Society & Culture Moderators Posts: 30,971 Mod ✭✭✭✭Insect Overlord

As far as I know they have 11 or 12 originals maybe 7 or 8 of which they play regularly.
"Gibson", "Live On", "Aisling", "Red Flags" are the ones they always do and the others are coming along nicely as well.

  • Closed Accounts Posts: 7,863 ✭✭✭seachto7

looking forward to hearing the other 2 originals? Are they releasing anything? That's when the music critic sharks will get their teeth into them then......... :/

  • Closed Accounts Posts: 308 ✭✭Johnny_BravoIII

I wouldn't even get too hung up on "original".
They have that folk-trad twist going on which can be about interpretation.
It's a glossy, clean, safe, type of pop version.
Type of stuff rugger wags, teeny boppers, housewives will buy.
If the likes of Bressie & the Corona's are pulling them in; then why not?

IMO it lacks soul but there is definitely a place for it.

jesus, I hate that guy. Not sure how someone gave him a gig on The Voice. His music is awful..

  • Closed Accounts Posts: 7,863 ✭✭✭seachto7

his music is sh*te alright, but he seems like an ok guy from his interviews. I cannot understand why people go to ogle him as opposed to listen to his music. F**k knows what half of the crowd going to look at guys arms would make of good songwriters like Chris Whitley or Vic Chesnutt. Both not appealing to the eye, one who was in a wheelchair. I wonder would they look on as if they had sh*t smeared on their faces or something....
