iarfhlaith-the Irish for Jarlath. Had to email one a while ago and had no clue what gender it was..

That's the old spelling - Iarla is the more modern version.

That girl on tv on the All Ireland talent show that pronounces her name like I clear my throat. And spells it with enough fadas that you could spell a normal name with the ink used.
    Bláthnaid Ní Chofaigh

    That has 2 fadas...

Uileann, Abhainn, Turlough, Tiernan, Damhnait, Iarflaith (sp?) The last one is becoming very popular, there are at least two babies called Iarflaith in the creche where I work.

    Also about 50 billion Saoirses

Uilleann and Abhainn aren't names - they're just Irish words for elbow/angle and river....

Actually I've heard both Abhainn and Uilleann so they may mean elbow and river but some bright spark thought they'd make lovely names too.

My names is Finbarr (Fionnbarra), have only met one other one and have heard of two others with the same name (the singer Finbar Wright being one).

My name is Áine, great fun when I go abroad. Have been called on-ya, onion, anee and countless others. Won't even start on telling people how to spell it.
I love the name Naoise, if I had a girl I think that name would be a contender along with Siofra.

I've a cousin called Siún (it's pronounced shoe-in); she's the only person I've ever heard of called that! Also have cousins called Doireann, Finian and Turlough, but they seem to be slightly more common. Most of my family have Irish names now that I think of it, but they're generally ordinary enough ones like Deirdre etc.

    Siún NicGearailt from RTE News!

Cárthach is probably the most unusual I've come across - have met two fellas with that name.

Also, would have though Finbarr was fairly common.

I watched this documentary on Irish Dancing on TG4 last week and there was an Australian girl on it whose first name was Céilí, and second name was Moore. Céilí Moore.

Not unusual but they do sound ridiculous together.

My name is Irish and it's a male name but it's become extremely popular to name females with it. I typed it into Facebook and nearly every person was an American girl.
