noticed the use of 'mate' a lot lately.

don't mind dude, dont mind most terms, but 'mate'?

    I despise the word.

always comes across as Del boy scumminess - but without the Del boy charm.

So, we losing of cultural poetiness , or wha'?

    :)

Singular use of it I don't mind, as in "thanks, mate", etc. But the plural use of it really annoys me for some reason. "Going out with me mates", etc.

To be honest, you can't expect too much consistency in the style of English used in this country, and if you looked at language use here in a grand context, you'd see lots of trends come and go. We're so influenced by British and American English as well as our own that words and phrases come and go out of fashion very quickly. Look at how one TV programme like Friends can introduce phrases many people here use like "go commando" and "David Schwimmer."
I remember calling people spacers in school and worrying we'd get corbed by the teachers for messing, but if I said that to a teenager these days they'd look at me like I just confused Zac Efron with Justin Beiber.

That said, I don't really like "mate" but I'm sure it'll be gone soon and people will say something even more stupid like "brah."

Justin's fringe is swept at about a 47 degree angle.

Zac's is more like 53 degrees.

I use the word 'mate' a fair bit.

'Dude' has got to be one of the most annoying Americanisms ever. Can't say I know anyone who ever uses it, but if I did I'd happily kick them in the face.

    "Well lad"
    "Ah lad"

Can't stand the use of the word "man" for some reason. Was J1-ing in Boston a couple of years ago where it was used by the locals, and has seemed to have spread across the Atlantic now.
