    Fucking disgusting this:

Sadly, it's just another in a long line of racial incidents in Russia. And to think they're going to host the World up in a few years

There's no way they should be hosting a World Cup when this sort of stuff goes on and if it wasn't for corruption in FIFA they wouldn't be.

How Can Racist Russia Host A World Cup?

    Fucking pricks!

This isn't the first time this year this has happened to him very disturbing.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 54,933 ✭✭✭✭Headshot

This isnt just an isolated incident for Carlos in Russia, happened to him before there too

I saw a documentary about the Racism in Russia before, it shocked me how bad it is. Also most Russian teams just dont sign black players either

    Disgusting tbh

In before EE tries to claim they were giving him a snack.

But seriously, take the World Cup off them.

I thought it was to commemorate his bendy free kick. . .

    Serious response: scummy baxtards

Just watching the video again, I feel so sorry for him tbh :(

Lokomotiv fans had a banner "Thank You West Brom" (With pictures of bananas i think) when West Brom bought Odemwingie. West Brom fans made their own banner with something along the lines of "Thank you Lokomotiv"

Didn't even know Roberto Carlos was still playing football

    Shocking stuff though

Sad to see, he did the right thing though to walk off the pitch, disgusting act from so called fans.

Horrible to see, really is. I feel very sorry for him, he seemed pretty upset by it and he has every right to be. Shouldn't happen to anyone.

One of the greatest servants to the game IMO. These disgusting people should be rounded up and shot, if I did'nt think it was a waste of good ammo.

If i remember correctly south africa have had their issues with racism yet they held a very succesful wc.

Russia has every right to hold the WC based on the size of the country and the fact that its fifa policy to move the world cup around equally to all parts of the world. We all know that spain, england and germany have the facilities to host these championships every 4 years but its a world game and should be passed around to allow the game to grow internationally. This is why its also a good thing for the middle east to get the wc for the first time (qatar).

Russia has its problems no doubt but I hope like south africa (who also had a lot of criticism before its world cup) they can hold a good tournament which will help the game grow in a healthy way for the next generation of russians.

Really doesn't matter that its Roberto Carlos that this happened to, its just not on no matter who the player is and those fans should be banned. I'd hope there would be action taken as regards European football at the very least, if they make it, like have their home games blacked out with no media coverage in Russia and no fans allowed at the game either.

I don't want to watch the World Cup wondering if every black man that takes the pitch will be abused or get bananas thrown at him. There was no possiblity of that happening in South Africa, with the predominantky black fanbase that atended tha games, nor was there a precedent of players being racialy abused in the way R Carlos was abused so your analogy is retarded.

My analogy is perfectly fine thank you. Both russia and sa have been criticised for racism and a lack of ability to host a wc. South africa were given the chance and did a great job, I am hopeful that russia is given a chance to do the same. If they **** it up with racism then it reflects badly on them but they deserve a chance. Racism cannot be kicked out over night, its a long process and may even take a generation. I hope the russian autorities do everything in their power to make sure this stuff does not occur at the world cup.

Spain is an example of a supposed perfect nation when it comes to football yet they have had multiple incidents of racial chanting in recent years yet you probably have no problem watching a spanish game.

Were there repeated incidents of racism directly linked to football in SA? Or are you referring to Apartheid 20 years after the time? Because if you can't see the difference between that and what is a presistent problem in Russian football then I don't know what else to say to you.

If a country's authorities are having trouble dealing with the problem of racism amongst their football supporters, the answer is NOT to reward them by allowing them to host theWorld Cup and give these cretins an audience of billions in which to peddle their bile. The fact that you hope there won't be racism at the World Cup is god enough reason not to even take the chance on it.

I just think they should be given a chance to put it right. If this is still hapening in the 2 or 3 years leading up to the WC then questions should be asked as to whether its suitable to have the cup there or not. But it takes time and I think this is a perfect opertunity for the russians to try to stamp it out.

Many countries have had problems relating to racism and football including spain yet they regularly get 'rewarded' with hosting champions league finals and so on.

What if they don't? This is 2011, England stamped out racism in th 1980's. Your sugestion that they could suddenly turn around and switch the World Cup from Russia 2-3 years before it is ludicrous btw, preparations for these things start years before that, you couldn't just change venue a couple of years before hand.

Top 2 clubs in ireland (the place you live in)

    http://www.extratime.ie/newsdesk/articles/5962/clubs-attend-hearings-racism-probe/
Shamrock Rovers, St. Patrick’s Athletic and the Shamrock Rovers player at the centre of a racism investigation have been requested to attend hearings where their cases will be heard. The investigation was launched after alleged racial abuse aimed at Derry City striker Eamon Zayed.

"The Disciplinary Control Unit of the FAI has decided to take the following action as a result of an investigation into reports received regarding:

St Patricks Athletic FC v Derry City FC on 10 June 2011 and Shamrock Rovers FC v Derry City FC on 13 June 2011.

    • St Patricks Athletic FC have been requested to attend a hearing regarding spectator conduct and alleged racist comments.

    • Shamrock Rovers FC have been requested to attend a hearing regarding spectator conduct and alleged racist comments.

    • Shamrock Rovers FC have been advised that one of their players has been requested to attend a hearing regarding alleged racist or offensive comments.

Derry City FC have been advised of the above and invited to attend the hearings. The statement continued: An independent committee will now be nominated to hear the matters at a date to be confirmed. There will be no further comment from the FAI until after the committee has concluded its deliberations."

yeah lets frown upon it and not realise every **** in this country is ****ing racist.

I hope we9st Pats) are punished, sadly wont change anything we a racist nation and nothing is going to change that.

But yeah lets abuse Russia cos it suits........

The problem is that FIFA are actively displaying Russia as a place where they expect families to travel to in a few short years for what should be a fantastic sporting experience that the whole world will be watching. We're not talking about a couple of isolated incidents or idiots shouting comments from the sidelines. What's going on in Russia is organized, disgusting racism and there is no justification for that.

    Wrong.

They always have a venue on standby in case something happens that means the host country can't host at short notice.

Mexico were only selected as WC 86 hosts in 1983 for example, when Colombia who had originally been penciled in, were unable to host due to economic reasons.

There was then an Earthquake in Mexico in 1985, and serious consideration was given to moving the tournament again, but they ended up not doing. But, if it had to be moved, 8 months isn't much notice, so it probably would have went back to Spain.

It's usually the previous hosts who are the standby hosts, so the infrastructure is definitely in place.

Even if there is a standby in place MUSEIST's notion that Russia should be given up until 2 years before the finals to stamp out racism and have it taken off them if it fails is still ludicrous. Having a standby in place should be and is reserved for absolutely extraordinary circumstances such as an earthquake and would still be a massive logistical nightmare. Th possibility of this happening based on Russian fans stopping being racist c*nts could easily be prevented by just not giving them the tournament in the first place.

Stamped out was probably too strong a word. But the problem is far more widespread and prevalent in Russia (and indeed other countries than it is England). They've come a long way from the days of John Barnes getting bananas thrown at him by his on supporters.

Its got nothing to do with slagging johnny foreigner FFS, I'm not from England for a start!

Its ridiculous to suggest that Russia should not be given the World Cup because an unknown but possibly minority of fans, of one club in particular have racist issues.
By the same logic England should not have been given Euro96.

Giving this competition to the slightly secondworld, fledgling democracy, newbirth countries with issues is arguably the best thing - give them an opportunity to drag themselves up.

The last thing football should do is always go for the oh so bland safe options of France, America and Italy etc.

I'd suspect most posters here would have been horrified at the selections of Spain in '82 (Franco's only dead 6 years and they are still fighting each other) or Argentina in '78 (it's a basket case country controlled by military junta) but arguably these World Cups helped these countries becoming the fully functioning members of the first world they are today.

Hopefully in 40 years we'll be able to look back and see what a difference 2018 made to Russia.

  • Closed Accounts Posts: 7,397 ✭✭✭Paparazzo

If throwing a banana is enough to not get a world cup, the FAI should send a team of banana throwers to every fifa country and throw a banana onto a pitch in a high profile match. Ireland will be the only country without a banana throwing incidence and we'll get the world cup :pac:

Theres a difference between basing the choice of World Cup on the politics of a country and basing it on a problem thats inextricably linked with football in the country. You're also underestimating how widespred racism is over there - have a quick browse through google. I genuinely cringe when I think what could happen if an African team lines out against the host nation.

Sad incidents, but lets not pretend it is isolated to Russia or Eastern Europe.

Aron Winter experiencing anti-black chants from his own club's fans at Lazio, not long after that country had hosted a World Cup.

Ashley Cole, Shaun Wright Phillips, etc. getting major abuse in the 'friendly' in Spain, not so long ago. Of course, Samuel Eto'o had to put up with a lot of crap over there too.

Neymar claimed he was abused by Scottish fans at Hampden earlier this year.

There may be a few question marks about Russia's selection for 2018, but other countries who have hosted major tournaments have not been so welcoming to everyone either.
