    Hi folks,

Most of you don't need an excuse for a party, barbecue or picnic, but we have one - the ESB Electric Ireland-sponsored Know Your Neighbour weekend, run by Macra Na Feirme.

This year's Know Your Neighbour weekend will take place July 9th and 10th. It's a great initiative encouraging people to get to know their neighbours, whether by organising a barbecue, coffee morning, sports day or simply popping over to a neighbour to say hi. For more info, activity suggestions and also organiser's packs, visit the Know Your Neighbour website.

So to encourage you to venture beyond the garden fence and increase your social network (the one without the risk of Carpal Tunnel Syndrome :p) we have five great picnic baskets, thanks to Hampers & Co., to give away to five winners.

    Hampers & Co. picnic basket

To be in with a chance to win, simply post a comment below. If you can't think of a comment, you could post a limerick about where you would hold your picnic – just a suggestion, but we think all would enjoy this. The competition will run until midnight, Tuesday 28th June, and winners will be chosen at random - see our T&C here.
So, in the spirit of things - to our Boards.ie "Talk to..." forum neighbours Elara.ie and Gamesnash.ie: Hello! :)

Get posting folks and best of luck!

We have a Know Your Neighbour street party each year. Everyone brings biscuits/cake and we have tea and coffee. We've never managed bunting, but often end up with brightly coloured umbrellas, as its rained on us a few years running.

That's the perfect size for my super duper quick picnic

    1x hot cooked chicken
    1x brennans pan
    1x real butter
    ?x beer of choice

This recipe can be used indoors or out and with multiples of neighbours

    The weather here is dreadful,
    Its really very dull,
    So I need this hamper,
    And hope its very full

I'd fill it up with lots of booze,
And sit out in the car,
Turn the heat up really high,
    And use my 'mini bar'!
    ;)

    Oh that is ridiculously cute!

I moved recently and have to admit I'm finding this part of Dublin pretty different. It's full of FAMILIES. Which is a lovely change to the soulless boxes of the last neighbourhood. Would love to bring the basket for a spin on the green.

Myself and my housemates are very well fed,
but for my neighbours the same is not said
a hamper will help their stomachs be fed
and a party of magnificence to be held:)

*note to neighbours, yez are alright really, promise.

I'd have it in Coole Park! The best place for a picnic!
    The Wild Swans at Coole

THE TREES are in their autumn beauty,
    The woodland paths are dry,
Under the October twilight the water
    Mirrors a still sky;
Upon the brimming water among the stones
    Are nine and fifty swans.

A picnic basked for my Electric Picnic trip!!

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 5,641 ✭✭✭zero19

To win this hamper would fill me with glee,
I could have my picnic, carefree,
    If the skies got cloudy,
    Or my neighbours got rowdy,
I could stick em with a fork in the knee!

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 100 ✭✭coolclogher

A hamper for me is what i'd like
So I could put it on the back of me bike
to the park I would go
    with herself in tow
sponsored by Hampers & Co rather than Nike

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 10 mkp

Hopefully it will become picnic weather, otherwise Baskets and Co may want to consider popping a brolly in with the hamper!
Would love to win this - very cute for a picnic at the park with my baby mum friends!:)

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 39 evster

Not the best weather for a picnic... but i'd love to try it under a brolly anyway

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 1,628 ✭✭✭barry181091

Great idea. Neighbours don't communicate like they used to. This will help people get into the spirit of things. If the picnic was to be shared amongst neighbours then I suppose somewhere local, like the local park would be a good spot.

my sister would love this, itd be perfect for the tea and ham sandwiches ;)

If you go down to the Boards today
You're sure it won't be tame.
If you go down to the Boards today
    You'd better have a Username.

For ev'ry Boardsie that ever there was
Will gather there for certain, because
Today's the day Macra Na Feirme have their picnic.

That last line doesn't quite scan, does it!:)
