What are they meant to do?

I have heard of putting a bit of cayenne in with lemon and water but I always figured all that did was leave you with a harsh taste in your mouth.

There is some research which suggests it may reduce appetite or improve fat burning, but I got the impression that it had to be on your food and you had to taste it for it to work.
