    From today's Indo:

    http://www.independent.ie/world-news/americas/man-pees-in-reservoir-and-8-million-gallons-are-flushed-away-2800747.html

Man pees in reservoir... and 8 million gallons are flushed away

Eight million gallons of water had to be drained from a reservoir in Oregon after a man urinated in it.
The operation is costing the state's taxpayers $36,000 and was ordered after Joshua Seater, 21, was caught on a security camera relieving himself in the pristine lake.
Health experts said the incident would not have caused any harm to people in the city of Portland, who are supplied with drinking water from the reservoir.
They said the average human bladder holds only six to eight ounces, and the urine would have been vastly diluted.
But David Shaff, an administrator at the Portland Water Bureau, defended the decision to empty the lake.
"There are people who will say it's an over reaction. I don't think so. I think what you have to deal with here is the 'yuck' factor," he said.
"I can imagine how many people would be saying 'I made orange juice with that water this morning.' "Do you want to drink pee? Most people are going to be pretty damn squeamish about that."
Mr Seater had been out drinking with friends when he decided to relieve himself in the open air reservoir at 1.30am.
He has not been arrested or charged with a crime, but may ultimately face a fine.
He apologised publicly for his behaviour, adding: "It was a stupid thing to do. I didn't know it was a water supply, I thought it was a sewage plant.
"I wouldn't mind paying for it but I don't have a job right now. I'm willing to do community service to clean up the place because I feel bad and feel pretty stupid." Sergeant Pete Simpson, of Portland Police, said: "It's really an unfortunate incident that probably could have been avoided if he had just chosen a bush."

I mean come on! This is an open air reservoir, completely open to the elements, heaven knows how much bird sh1t has ended up in there over the years.

We all have taken an accidental gulp in the local swimming pool at some stage and 5 minutes later seen the life guard fishing for a turd left by a not-quite-housetrained 3-year old.

A bit of human fecal matter in the water only strengthens your immune system, we are all going to end up living in a bubble the way things are going.

Im pretty sure reservoir water gets treated before entering municipal supply either way. Which makes me wonder about the officials in Oregon and what kind of corners they're cutting.

How the hell did he get that close enough to take a leak in the reservoir in the first place, shouldn't it be cordoned off to the public??

That or maybe a PR stunt or even a false claim that they drained it to warn people off.

I cant believe someone in charge of Water referred to the "Yuck Factor".

Surely the reservoir goes through some kind of filtration system, otherwise people's water would be filled with Bird Shit and other crap that would have just blown in with the wind.

Surely half a litre of piss (at most!) would be diluted enough in 8 million gallons of water!?

This Reminds of an old School tour I had as a kid to Wales, one stop was slate mine near Ffestiniog, North Wales.

Well when underground the tour guide pointed out a nice spring water lake untouched by anything. Soon after I turned around to dripping sound ...to find one of the lads pissing in it !:D

All water is recycled píss, on average the water you drink has passed through two people already and countless other animals. It's a closed water cycle.

That's mad Ted. Reservoirs are already chock full of urine. From the fishes for a start. Many reservoirs in this country and the UK are also trout(and other) fisheries. Many especially in the UK are stocked specifically for the sport fishing aspect.

For good reasons and not just financial in selling day tickets to fishermen. Fishes, especially trout are very twitchy when it comes to water quality so a good healthy population of them and their food is highly indicative of a healthy water column. Fish don't cock their fins up against underwater plants, but piss they do. Quite a bit actually. Shíte as well.

Or die and fall to the bottom to rot along with other living creatures. Even a 10 minute beer piss from me is gonna make eff all difference. Literally a drop in the ocean. The ocean of other urine, never mind the water.

In any event urine is mostly water anyway with some urea and non toxic salts. It's also sterile unless you have some existing condition. If this isn't an Onion article then something else is going on, cos it's utter bullshít. Or piss if you will.

Rejoice in the awareness of feeling stupid, for that’s how you end up learning new things. If you’re not aware you’re stupid, you probably are.

If they bring in water charges here we should all go away and take a sh1t in the nearest reservoir and post a clip of it on the 'tube. then hop on a plane and sh1t in the reservoir IMF employees get their water from

The guy responsible for draining the reservoir is a bigger idiot than the guy pissing in it. "The Yuck factor". Give me strength! Then again he makes orange juice from water so maybe he's some kind of genius alchemist.

Heard an interview on BBC with the head of water supply.

The water in this reservoir had already been treated, chlorinated etc. and was ready for drinking.

He admitted dead birds and rats are regularly fished out of the water, one of only 36 open reservoirs of drinking water left in the US. Seems he took exception to the deliberate act of contamination and would not expect his customers to have to consume same.

BBC guy pointed out 100ml of urine in 8 million gallons of water was surely not posing any risk of ill effects but the chap stuck to his guns.

They will try to recoup $7,700.00 it cost to drain the reservoir.

Its nothing compared to what a dirty ****er living in a shared house used to do, He hated his house mates and luckily for him and unluckily for the others, The attic entrance was in his room so he used to climb up and relieve himself in the tank everyday, He kept empty bottles in his room and would pee in these. Leave them under the bed a few days and then bring them up to the tank, And they would stink, The house mates always said the water wasn't the best but they suspected nothing, But it got out of hand when he put a turd in the tank, The water was a mouldy colour and supposedly stank. The penny only dropped when the house mates noticed how often he would burst into laughter when they drank water or boiled the kettle, The fact he only ever drank bottled water didnt help too......
