Do supplementals have generally the same content/questions as the normal exams or are they completely redone?

In my limited experience there'll tend to be a huge amount of similarity. In the ones I did knowing the original paper well would let one pass the supplemental. I'm certainly hoping that it's a widespread thing with the ones I have to do this year. :pac:

    When and where are repeats?

Start 29th of August. Kinda hard to say where they'll be as I don't set the timetable.

They weren't up until October this year.

Does a repeat exam become worth 100%?

Say for example the marks of a module is 50% assignments and 50% summer exam, and you don't get enough to pass and have to repeat the exam; does that mean that the repeat exam is still worth 50% or the whole 100%?

It might depend on the department, but as far as I know they're worth 100%.

I missed 2 of my Christmas exams as I got sick and ended up in hospital. In one of them, I'd already completed 50% (project and viva exams) and come out with a first, but because I'm sitting the supplemental I go back to 0 and have to start from scratch. Grrrr.....

In Science (Biology) last year it wasn't anyway.

Varies from department to department. Students could abuse that.

Any chance you could link me to that page? Navigating tcd's site is not for the faint of heart....

With the SCSS(And I suspect other schools) if you have to do a sup(due to CW, exam, or both) you sit the exam with an attempt to get 40%, you can get 100% but it wont matter, cause once you sit a sup you get a clear for that subject, and thus the year. A clear means they let you through, but you dont have a yearly grade. for JF and SF this is fine(though it looks bad on your record) but for JS and SS it impacts your final grade so its really not good.

Is there anywhere you can find the past papers for Supps or would it be best to email the individual lecturers and ask them to send them on? :)

    Shítting it for tomorrow... :pac:

In the event we don't pass, are we basically left with too options?
    1. Repeat year.
    2. Drop out.

    ??

That's about it, in short. You may be able to get permission to repeat the year off-books, that's exams only (the ones failed presumably) and you just pay a small fee (€382 it tells me here), instead of repeating the year (€7,417 for your course - big difference!!). However, you do have to get permission to repeat the year off-books from the Senior Lecturer, and it's not always given. It may not be suitable for the situation the person is in - like, a lot of people who repeat off-books fail again, etc - but it is a possibility.

Don't worry about it unless it happens. If it does, ask to go through your scripts just in case and definitely meet with your tutor who'll be able to advise you accordingly from there. Hopefully it won't come to that! Best of luck tomorrow anyway. :)

You wouldn't happen to know if the worst happened and I had to do that, would they let me sit the schol exams?

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 36,170 ✭✭✭✭ED E

If you're off books I assume you cant schol as you're not a proper student for that year.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 1,035 ✭✭✭Sir Ophiuchus

Candidates [for the Schol exams] must have paid the current annual fee of their class.
During the period of [being off books] students are not required to keep their names on the College books, and do not pay an annual fee or a replacement fee.

So, unfortunately, if you're off books you can't enter for the Schol exams.

God, I logged onto Boards and read all of your posts from page 1 and had a panic attack cos I thought that my results were out earlier than I thought.

Turns out I've to wait till next week, so basically I have a 3-day after receiving my results timeframe to sort out my sh1t whether that is registering for the next year or finding something else to occupy this brain. Scary mary.
    But ...
CONGRATS to everyone that passed!!!!! You all should b v.proud of yourselves! !!! Roll on next week...oh & best of luck everyone still waiting!
