haha, spot on! He's made a career from playing the same bogger character type, even that bloody 22-2-2-2-2 add is the same as usual. No thanks.

I'm sure a lot will agree with me.

Anyone who thinks that Pat Shortt is a comedy genius clearly hasn't got a fucking clue about comedy.

    I like the ad where he goes "22 22 22... 1890 22 22 22"..

.. that sort of comedy could rival Carlin or Hicks tbh!

I think he's funny, but that's because I'm from Tipperary. I don't really see how you would if you weren't tbh.

I dont know how you can not watch the travelers clip or this one and not get a giggle out of it

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 44,197 ✭✭✭✭Basq

Don't get me wrong.. D'Unbelievables were amazing (as a pair)..

.. but Pat Shortt (as an individual) is meh (although he did impress me HUGELY in 'Garage')!

I'll agree with you. Some of the stuff Pat Shortt did in D'Unbelieveables and on his own was class. You'd probably only get it if your from the country for some reason.
Townie types hate him and if your a D4 head you probably wont know who he is. They'd be too busy watching dirt comedy like "Friends" and enjoying the usual brain dead sanitized humour that gets played on TV. They probably have a picture of Bill Cosbie up on their wall as well. In fairness I'm being harsh on Bill. Family guy ripping the piss out of him probably made his existence worth while :D

Pat has done some muck recently though I'll admit. A lot of the Killinaskully stuff was muck but then again its aimed at a certain audience. Still I loved the scene where Pa charged the young fella ten euro for the oversized candy floss after he was on the mobile phone.

So yeah I'm going to put Pat's early work up there with some of the best comedy I've seen from America or Britain or Auz.
Do most comedians seem to just go **** when they get a little bit older or what? Seems to be the case.

    Father... I killed a man

He was only ever funny in Father Ted when he was reading lines somebody else wrote.

  • Closed Accounts Posts: 328 ✭✭Justin1982

    Bizarre.
Yeah, it worries me as well. I think this is the result of watching too much Pat Shortt, Sarah Silverman and http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Oubnr-4_RCo in the last 24 hours. One shouldnt mix certain things.

Personally don't find him funny one bit - in fact totally irritating with stupid, silly, cheap humour you'd expect from an brainless idiot (and even then its not funny).

He can be funny, but couldn't watch a full stand up show with him. He is way too repetitive, and puts on the same accent in every skit but just dresses differently. Can get very annoying.

You need a "He was better in D'Unbelievables" option ;)

  • Closed Accounts Posts: 4,940 ✭✭✭Corkfeen

I enjoyed him when he was Tom but that's about it.

Tom: Father! I've killed a man.
Ted: Er, well, we'll talk about that later, Tom. Right now, I'm going to be on the telly!

This is the funniest thing he's ever done. I think he's legit locked. Kenny can't hold in the laughter at all.

    Bit a beetroot.

    Abroad in Hassets Field.

    'Tis gone dry Joe.

When I think what they did to that man in front of his wife and chidren. Tore the socks offa him with a bayonet.

He used to do a music show where he take viewer requests over the phone and he'd send this fella running out the back to a garden shed to find the video tapes of the particular tune. It was done against the clock so the fella had to leg it and often didn't find the tape.

I'd love to get some actual video of it in action. Most people don't remember it and usually think I was on drugs at the time when I describe it.

Genius or not a genius? Comedy is a subjective experience for all of us and therefore a matter of opinion. So arguments over whether someone is a comic genius or not, is both irrelevant and futile.

True. But we should be able to all agree that Jason Byrne is the most annoying, unfunny donkey that ever came onto the Irish comedy scene.........He just goes around being annoying and doing **** that anyone else could do if they didnt make any effort.......Swear to god!......Jason Byrne.....Grrrr....if I had a bucket of p*iss!

Best Pat Shortt sketch by the way was when he was on his own after D'Unbelieveables. He was pretending to be at a wedding party, helping his puppet to get sick outside the hotel due to food poisoning.

Puppet: "F*uckin sea food salad!......And we in the middle of a f*uckin bog!" :D

Biggest problem with Shortt is Kilinascully, it's completely tarnished the fact that with D'Unbelievables and in his solo stuff immediately following he was bloody hilarious, his repetitive sides were no different to any other stand up in volume. Kilinascully though, catering to a broad audience and dumbing the comedy right down, appallingly so. Mattie was even worse then.

was on the view last night good enough with some good clips from the past(any1 have clips of the earlier stuff thats not on youtube) Agree he was better with jon kenny than on his own/killinaskully

I love Pat Shortt and the D'unbelievables. I think that Kilnaskully was ****e, but loved his stuff with Jon Kenny.

I think its because I know too many people like the characters they portray.

    Love it :D

was that not the dj kat show on sky when it was not owned by news corp
for our younger members sky coming to Ireland via cableink was akin to Ireland landing on the moon
we only had rte 1/2 bbc 1/2 and c4 weather permitting ( look out your window now)
the stuff on sky then was cheap cheap cheap but loved it !!
any one else remember it ?
