Advice for gaining an appetite?

    Hey guys, just wondered if anyone had any ideas on building an appetite? I've always been on the underweight side (sometimes to extremes) and been to docs who say they can't give me anything to make me feel hungry.

    I try the little and often approach but I often realise at the end of the day I've forgotten to eat altogether and don't miss it. I know this is from years of my system not being used to food, but sick of being called a skinny bítch and don't particularly like the sticking out bones.

    Exercise doesn't build hunger for me either; can walk many miles without any cry from my body for food (I am not a gym freak though, can't stand them).

    Has anyone else ever been in a similar situation? Any neat little tips & tricks to build an appetite? If I eat when I'm not hungry then I tend to feel ill and sometimes vomit it back up (not voluntarily). We're not talking full course meals here either, any amount of food :confused:

    You need to start building muscle. The more muscle you build, the higher the demand for energy to feed the muscles. Walking for miles is not ideal because over time this reduces your muscle mass. Think sprinter physique vs marathon runner physique.
    What kind of food are you forcing yourself to eat?

    Eating more (mostly non processed), high GI foods should help you eat more.

    Examples;

    potatoes, pumpkin, parsnip, rice, carrots, watermelon, bananas, dry fruit(raisins, sultanas, dates etc.), Broad beans, lima beans, pinto beans.

    I've put on a couple of stone from a good weights routine, 3 sessions a week and lots of food, especially milk. Milk has 640 calories per litre. Start lifting weights and drink 4 litres of milk a day if you are serious about wanting to put on weight. You need to commit to it, no point half doing it, just doesn't work.

    almond butter...just got some recently can't help but eat a sh!t load of it!!

    If your stomach doesn't like the full feeling, try eating high-fat whole foods like nuts (or nut butter), butter, full fat yoghurt etc. A little of those goes a long way and shouldn't bloat your stomach. Mix that in with a healthy dose of protein and you'll gain weight.

    Great advice. Milk is full of protein too and good fats. Add to that the fact that you can buy it in most newsagents - score for convenience instead of reaching for the can of coke!

    Eggs are a great idea too. The yoke is full of good calories and nutrients, while the white has lots of protein.
