Series of Coincidences or ?????

Be interested to know what other people thing of this as myself and my friends are split.

To make a long story short basically I met a guy one night, we got chatting, kissed and parted ways at end of night.

Anyway since then I have been bombared by things reminding of him or realted to him - such as his name, surname and first, area where he is from has appeared more and more things like that.

I do not take these things too seriously as coincidences happen but since it is about a month later and still happening some of my friends are like I think faith is trying to tell you something. I know that there are statistic that give the probability of these things happening but even at times I wonder if someone is trying to tell me something.!! Some people might say you are consciously looking for those things but I can swear I am not as it took me a few days to cop on to it.

What do other people think do people believe in faith or is it just a high % of coincidences.

You like him and you are trying to make every connection possible to give you a reason to call him.

And if you had never met him, those things would mean nothing to you.
As said above, you like him and anything to do with him will drawn your attention.

Have to disgaree with you there as if I wanted to call him I would have so do not need to resort to looking for connections.

Anyway what I really interested in is do peopel believe in faith and things steering you in a certain direction just say or is everything a series of coincidences.

My post was just an example. Easily could have used another one.

I'm assuming you mean believing in fate.

I believe in destiny & karma, but sometimes things really are just a coincidence.

referring to your example, I'd say you're just noticing those things now because you met him, you probably would have had similar experiences before hand, but never took heed of them because you didn't know him then

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 28,789 ✭✭✭✭ScumLord

You obviously liked him and now your subconscious is trying to come up with any excuse to get back in contact with him. Don't ignore your subconscious, it will turn on you and eat your brain from the inside out.

Well my nanny always says "what is for you won't go past you" which I think I would like to believe but in reality I think it may be a bit optmistic and you have to work for things also.

I agree with you and said these probably have occured before and as you said took no notice. Maybe it is the huge % of things which brought it to my attention more.

    Complete conicidence/selective observation.

Buy a car, any car, and the day you start driving it you'll be amazed how many there are on the road.

On any given day that you hear his name, you'll hear far more names that aren't his, but attach no significance to them. Ditto other facts about him.

If you have something more substantial like I dunno hearing the wind whistle his last words he said to you on the night you were with him or some mad dreams of the two of you doing whooppeee then let us know otherwise your just taking up board space here ffs

Wow someone is fairly techy. It is just an EXAMPLE I used to start a discussion on fate of coincidence. I am regrtting it now as it seems people are getting too hung up on the guy and not the TOPIC I was interested in getting people opinions on.

You need to calm down & if things like these bug you stay off discussion boards.

you havent given any REAL example of coincidences, just that he has a name that maybe a popular name that maybe one of your friends have and the location he lives in were, no doubt hundreds perhaps thousands of other people live, I would hardly say they are coincidences and far far from being something more karmic.

My mind was at ease just when the whole fate topic came up in conversation and I casually mentioned my experience the guys were like see this could be one of those things. I am a bit skeptical about these things personally but like to keep an open mind.

It's not really a coincidence at all.
You're probably coming across his surname etc just as much as you did before but you notice it more now.

It's like whenn you see a new car you want to buy and all of a sudden you start noticing that model everywhere you go. You weren't looking before.

    B1tches be crazy, yo.

I don't believe in fate at all.

Yet certain things in my life would not have happened if not for something else previously happening.

    Two examples;

    1. I was a very depressed and suicidal teenager.
If I did not get pregnant when I did, I think I would now be long gone.

    2. I am now unable to have more kids.
If I did not have my kids young, I may not have had any.

It is like two conflicting ideas in my head.

    Logic and something else.
    Emotion? Intuition? Spirituality?
    I don't know.

    Logic wins over though.

We have an infinite amount of possibilities in front of us at any given moment, and we can choose to do any of them, or none of them.

The things out of our control, I think they just happen due to a chain of events.

I'm pretty sure it's down to this part of the brain... When you buy a red car you start seeing them everywhere:

I'd say you don't get the shift that often and now you did you're trying convince yourself its love i.e selective observation.

The chances that he is going around thinking of you are very slim. So best thing to do is forget the whole thing get hammerd and shift someone else.

You are assigning significance to random occurrences and facts because he's on your mind a lot.

Whereas he is shooting his load in somebody that actually puts out on the first night.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 8,207 ✭✭✭The King of Moo

I don't believe in fate at all, but our brains do look for connections between random things, and see patterns where there aren't any. Like the way we see shapes in clouds.
The simple versions of this are things like humming a song and then it comes on the radio. It seems amazing but if you think about the likelihood of it happening and were able to calculate the probability of it happening, it's almost bound to happen once or twice in your life. Similar to this is how when you buy a new car, you suddenly see them everywhere. You were seeing them before, just not noticing them.
The extreme end of this fairly natural tendency is when people concoct elaborate conspiracy theories to explain why the world isn't a blissful utopia, at least for them, or see faces in rock formations on Mars.

People people it is more about the whole idea of things happening for a reason than the example I gave.

As I said I am more of a its coincidence and as someone else gave car example than some idea of fate whereas some friends are more along the lines of reading into things.

As I said if I wanted to call this guy I would but I don't all I was interested in finding out is how various people read these things differently.

You're just one of those girls that wants everything to be romantic and fairytale like when it comes to finding the one. Whether it's faith or not it doesn't matter as whether subconciously or not you're looking for connections it doesn't matter as you've already made those connection and are probably willing to "pretend" it's faith....so why not? If you want to say it's faith then meet the guy again and begin this whirlwind magical love story that you're possibly looking for in your life, no harm in it at all, if it makes you happy at the thought of it being faith then have fun :)

A friend of mine used to claim 42 was here lucky number because she would see it everywhere and in the most unusual places, she thought it was a sign from a spirit that was watching over her...

    Oh look there’s 42!

The peas are 42 cent a can!

I went to view an apt and it was number 42 I have to rent it!

If you add all the numbers in his phone number they add to 42!!! Well, if you leave out the 085......Thats not really part of a number anyways...I have to date him!

My head was ablut to explode! For years I pointed out that she only noticed 42 because she went out of her way to find 42. Of course she said I was wrong blah blah blah.
Then one time we were on holidays and she was being particularly annoying, regaling us about stories of strange places where 42 cropped up, I cracked, pointed out again how she was only looking for it and told her that everytime I see the number 23 it means she’s full of ****. So for the next few days I pointed out 23 over and over and over again. I think she finally got the message, she never talks about 42 anymore, well in front of me anyways...

Bottom line OP you’re noticing these things because you want to, they are not signs.

    Moral of the story:

    Leave me alone.

Are people not reading my posts if I wanted to meet this guy again I would. Point is I don't. All I wanted was to see if a couple of my friends opinions on the situation were as far out there as I though they were.

And to above poster no way do I believe in "fairy tale" romances that is for Hollywood movies not real life. Does it happen to some people sure of course it does I know a couple of people who have had what would be called a fairy tale romance.

I am sorry I brought up the whole topic of fate, coincidence as obviously a somewhat mature discussion on it is impossible on this board. So this is where I will leave this discussion.

The point is because you are aware of his name you are beginning to notice it in random places. You are seeing a pattern where there is no pattern.

    It's a common psychological phenomenon.
