Favourite player to leave your club

    Thread probably wont work out too well but we'll give it a go anyway.

    Was watching a show on LFC tv yesterday, plenty of footage of McManaman and Fowler in their prime. Got me remembering how annoyed i was when they were both let leave Liverpool. Most players worth keeping at a club get to stay until they are no longer needed, because they arent needed you arent too disappointed.

    The 2 i mentioned along with Xabi Alonso should never have been allowed to leave at the times they did.

    Yours?

    We got a great deal out of Fowler leaving. Agree with Macca and Xabi though. Can't believe the club let Smicer and Biscan leave though :( :pac:

    We got a decent sum for him, its just the way he was treated by GH and Thommo before he left that annoyed me. Everyone and their mother could see he was worthy of a place in our XI back then instead of Heskey, i dont buy into all that rubbish about him and Owen being too similar. They never really had time to work on a partnership.

    While McCourt was one of the most gifted players to play for Rovers, certainly in the last 10 years. This man IS rovers through and through. A gent and a hero.

    Ronny Johnsen if we are allowing injury retired players.

    Kevin Hunt, retiring in less than optimal circumstances. Bohs legend.

    Cake, and grief counseling, will be available at the conclusion of the test

    I think a lot people view of Fowler is a bit tainted. He was great, but he was one of the "spice boys" who needed to be told to GTFO and rightly so. Disappointing he didn't decide to knuckle down but his attitude/dedication to the game wasn't good enough and he had to go.

    Couldnt possibly disagree with this anymore.

    Before his injury he was along with Shearer, the best striker in England. There was nothing wrong with his attitude, especially when he was at Liverpool.

    Everton

    Ferguson when he was sold to Newcastle, Mentions for Speed and Kanchelskis too. Strangely enough i wasnt too bothered when Rooney left. Think he got more yellows than goals for us :eek:

    Kanchelskis & also Roy Keane - was devestated when he left:(

    Fair enough, still right to sell though. Fact he did very little with his career when he left just confirms this really. Perfect timing to cash in on him.

    Marc Overmars. Such a wonderful player. Shame his career didn't turn out the way it should have.

    Lots of favourites going back over the years Ronaldo, Keane and Yorke would be top of the list.

    Danny Murphy for Liverpool. Was surprised and disappointed when he left, thought he could of done it for us. Could nearly still put in a shift for us to this day.

    Pool fan here. I think Torres leaving, and who he went to, hit me much harder than Xabi's departure.

    Dan Murray for Cork City - sad to see him go.

    Biggest Disappointment was when Dave Barry stopped playing imo Cork Citys greatest ever player by a country mile.

    For me, Ronaldo for United.

    As much as I hate to say it right now but Michael Carrick. Took us a few years to properly replace him. He was immense for us.

    Seamus Coleman, but its been great to see him go on and prove himself in the English premier and national setup.

    Pat Jennings when he left Spurs. I was only 10 at the time and it scarred me for life. Especially as we sold him to Arsenal.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 29,456 ✭✭✭✭Quazzie

    Paul Merson. I was gutted when firstly Bregkamp took the No.10 jersey off him and moreso when he was sold soon after.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 3,255 ✭✭✭shano_88

    David Seaman.

    Didnt think much of it at the time. Just took having a reliable keeper between the sticks for granted. Still hasnt really been properly replaced.

    I don't support any club but I was sorry to see the following clubs let these players go.

    United = Veron
    Milan = Ronaldo
    Lyon = Juninho
    Villareal = Riquelme
    Madrid = Roberto Carlos, Figo

    Zola, we only offered him a 1 year extension after he agreed terms with Cagiliari and he was too good of a man to go back on his word :(
