Hi i want to set up a new saorview/freesat system as an alternative to sky in another room. Was all set to buy a new HD ready tv and a HD combo box but am now thinking i should just buy a saorview tv and a cheaper HD freesat box. Any thoughts? Thanks in advance for any replies

The combo box would give you the option to record from satellite or terrestrial.

Freeview is the UK DTT system. a UK Freeview HD TV should be capable of picking up Saorview, no extra box required. Picking up UK channels will depend on your proximity to east cost/north

Are you talking about Freesat by any chance?

I would buy certified Freesat box as when any update from BBC service and will get new software update automatically
same for Saorview STB or iDTV and RTENL will transmit update software if needed
if that you can afford two boxes or a Freesat STB and Saorview iDTV

Have the Sony Saorview Certified TVs T2 tuners? If they have they will be able to pick up Freeview HD channels.

    No.

None of them have satellite tuners only terrestrial for Saorview, freeview and freeview-HD. No freesat or FTA satellite.

Freesat branded HD box is a far easier and better option imo.

Also free software update for any new service or bugs fix from Freesat for the Freesat certified STB, STB recorder and iDTV

    Hi,

It is possible to get a TV with an aerial socket that will receive Saorview and a satellite socket that will receive Freesat.
That would mean that you will not need any additional boxes :).
Some will allow you to record as well by simply attaching an external disk via a USB cable.
Look for models that say Freeview HD and Freesat HD.

Panasonic and Samsung have models that do this. LG also have (I think).

LG LFseries did have this but is now discontinue due to Sky made LG their offical 3D TV and made LG drop Freesat buildin TV as it was so popular

I'm sure Sky and UPC are hurting from customers cancelling and are doing anything they can do to stop it happening.

dont know if this is what anyones looking for
its a freeview box that has saorview built in
that means you need sat dish (to watch freeview/no subscription costs)
and an aerial (to watch saorview)
only one box required to update your tv to crystal clear tv for
simple install if you already have sky dish and existing ariel
    neat and tidy box

You can not get Freeview from satellite, Freeview is UK DTT and only get on east coast or border area with NI
This is not Freesat certified box

    Saorview from aerial
