Before I get attacked this is just something I have read, Im not sure its true but i have heard that while crossfit may be better at getting you fit, better for your core and functional strength, it is not as good as traditional bodybuilding exercises for actually shaping your body and adding muscle..At the end of the day most people go to the gym because they want to look good, and a lean musclar body looks good, to build broad shoulders ,a big chest is better achieved with old school bodybuilding,I just wanted to know people's thoughts on this.

Is there anyone outside Crossfit who claims that it is better than traditional BBing to put on muscle?

Any training program is only as good as:

    1) How well it is programmed
    2) The trainees adherence to it
    3) Whether it is suitable for the goals you’re looking to achieve

And that’s the bottom line, cos Hanley said so.

Isn't the idea of body building to improve the look of the body. A body building contest is all about posing. It doesn't mean they have a better body.

Is there anyone inside Crossfit who claims that it is better than traditional BBing to put on muscle?

I've yet to hear this - usually what I hear is that Crossfit builds "functional muscle" and that the majority of exercises bodybuilders typically use to build their size "aren't functional" - i.e. don't do them if you ever want to be "elite"...

Any links to where they claim it is better than traditional bodybuilding when it comes to building muscle?

As far as I know, they claim Crossfit is better than BB training for a natural dude trying to put on muscle.

They also claim they can get you a 750lb deadlift just doing metcons...

I disagree with this. Exercises like bench press, squats, deadlifts, power cleans, chin-ups, dips, lunges, lat pull downs, tricep kickbacks...?:)

Find out what you're in it for.
If it's purely aestethics go for bodybuilding

and when you get bored by aestehics go for crossfit.

To be honest go for what ever you enjoy and will do consistently - most people dont get much past the point of sorting their diet out and being consistent in training TBH

As Sanovitae said, nobody outside of crossfit would claim that it's better than bodybuilding for bodybuilder. In fact I don't think any sensible crossfitters would. There's the nonsense printed on the mainsit, but for the most part thats marketing nonsense.

At the end of the day crossfit is about combining all elements of fitness and improving them all not just one single component of fitness, while bodybuilding is really just looking at strength component of fitness.

so you would probably get better results just bodybuilding in your local gym if your looking to just put on lean muscle and sculpt your body, the cardio side of crossfit wouldnt be great as you could imagine for building mass.

i love crossfit its great and helps me big time with the sports i play its good for my explosive work but in the summer months i look to bulk up and gain a bit of muscle and size so i would rather go to the gym and focus on this alone rather then do it through crossfit, i have better results in the gym hands down for building muscle.

but as a previous poster said its all about your training program in the end.
