What years were the best of your life?

    So far....?

Was just watching that new Coca Cola ad where the people are at the beach and float up and out of the big coke bottle into the ocean and it reminded me of the best years of my life.... 1991-'93.

Aged 19-21, at university 30min drive Byron Bay on the North Coast of NSW, Australia. I was doing the degree of my dreams, going out with my first boyfriend, money was scarce but always had enough to go out and have a good time, we were at the beach as often as we could get there, we were all full of hopes and dreams of what we would do when we graduated...

If I had known how good I had it then, I think I would have appreciated my good fortune more.

And yes, it has all been downhill since;):p

    Before the age of 8

    And ages 15+16
-The only 2 years since 8 where I was pure selfish and wasn't responsible for others.

I'm still living my life so can't say for certain if the best years are gone or still yet to come.

However, if you were to ask me what the best years of my life SO FAR were, I would say right now with my wife and 16 month old daughter, nice job, carefree, with nice things coming in the next few months. :D

I've had some great years. 1995 1998 - Especially memorable, summer of 95/96. Epic year (was about 15, just finished JC and working in a bar at home) - weather was excellent that year and still get drawn back to remembering it when I hear music from that summer. Alanis Morrissette on the Jukebox full time, beach parties till 6 or 7 in the morning ..... brilliant stuff.
Summer 96 was more of the same, with some really memorable (but possibly ****e now) tunes. Leaving Cert in 98 - brilliant year - out every saturday night from September and through the exams with some great people. Spice girls - Wannabe, Underworld - Born slippy, Faithless - Insomnia - Blur/oasis tonnes more really memorably tunes from those times.

2000/2001 because of who I met, where we travellend. 2009, because we married in that year.
And as someone said, the best is yet to come -

Probably 15-16 (2001/02/03) - my best school years by far tbh

2007 - college, job, nights in the bar, good friends - nice times

08/09/10 and some of 2011 - first relationship - especially good times and lovely memories, the BEST time so far in my life :)

    Very good childhood....great memories.

Fantastic mid-late teens. First real girlfriend, made a lot of friends, drank a lot of drink, had a lot of fun.

    Mid-late 20s.....met my missus, emigrated....very funky times.

After a not so great year for various reasons, I have a feeling in my water that another 'golden era' is on the way :)

Kind of a pessimistic view OP. Declaring which years were your best years is kind of saying that your life has and will only take a downward course from here on out.

Or am I misinterpreting what you're saying?

You should have asked: What were your best years to date?

  • Posts: 0 CMod ✭✭✭✭ Ariyah Deafening Meat

Okay let's all just assume the question is "to date"... she's added it in already :pac:

My teens were pretty horrendous. But the moment I moved out of home for university, everything changed. Oh, to go back and have one of those summers again. :D

The last 6 months of 2009 were particularly good. Great summer followed by Electric Picnic followed by myself and seventeen mates jetted off to Florida for a week in Orlando, followed by a wedding, then a week in New York. That was pretty spectunkular.

People tend to say you've had a great night when you can't remember a thing the following day. So the best years for me possibly ly somewhere between 1984 and 1990-ish.

Only remember bits and peices from then and good memories at that.

Sept 1996 - Summer 1998. Aged 18-20, first 2 years in college. Unforgettable memories, even more so since my school days were laregly forgettable.

To date, 15-17 were 2 really good years. I was content with every aspect if my life, haven't felt like that since.

But as already said, i hope my best years are still ahead of me.

No, but I once had a summer of 99's

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 854 ✭✭✭Caraville

Between 18 and 20 were pretty good, but I reckon my best years were between 23 and 27- had just started earning money and made new friends that I still have now. Very carefree times, really miss them :(

    Hopefully good times ahead though.....

Everything after the day secondary school finished. That was six years of pure hell, everything being controlled for me etc. Since then Ive been responsible for myself, had some tough times but always happy in the knowledge that its me who controls my life and no one else.

Also I now live in a city and a country that I actually LIKE and had a choice in moving to, rather than being somewhere my parents decided.

Late teens, 16-20 would have to be the best years of my life.
My 30's are pretty sh!t it has to be said.

When I was 14-15 (epic summers). Then skip to 30 to now - nearly 32, I'm a lot happier because I've made some changes in my life that were badly needed. Still have a lot of shit on my plate, but I'm happy with my lot over all :)

My college years definitely. My educational and social life balanced in an equal key. Even though parts of college was hard for the most part I enjoyed it even the hard work! Enjoyed the social aspect too.

I think most people over 30 who say that their best years are ahead of them are more often than not kidding themselves. By nature people are nostalgic and view the past as a magical time, possibly even making it out to be better than it actually was. This is just normal.
Obviously you can be positive about the future but if everyone was brutally honest I don't think they would say that their best years are ahead of them. They can hope of course, but that's a different thing.

    The Wonder Years

    Best username evuh.

It's got to be 17 - 20 for me, straight out of school into a great job with great people. Great music, great parties, loads of money, fun times :)

Been in college ever since, money is more than scarce and work is crap! Been with the bint for the past two years though which helps I suppose :) Like someone else said, I can feel another golden era on the horizon. Any day now :pac:

18-23, college, meeting the girl, building up a strong CV and putting career plans in place.

The next 10 years will hopefully take me all around the world in my career, so we'll see if that pans out for better or for worse. Only money could have made my years at college any better :p

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 11,376 ✭✭✭✭rossie1977

without question my last 2 years at undergrad and my 3 years at postgrad, so between december 2001 and maybe feb 2007

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 6,605 ✭✭✭Fizman

I used to think that 20-23 were my best years.

    However, 28 now...........................

I've just returned from a 12 day trip to Cuba with a mate of mine and it has blown all previous holidays out of the water. "Got on very well" with a 21 year old gorgeous Cuban student, as well as spent an incredible 12 hours with a bunch of Brazilian girls after a random meet in the Museo de la Revolucion, where I "got on very well" with a stunning 27 social worker from Brasilia. (Invited over to the Rock Festival in Rio in September :))

Then spent the last 4 days in a resort where hopefully a trip to Montreal will spawn from it or else this gorgeous French Canadian girl will get over here.

Either way, I'm having a ball.

(Possibly have to sell my pride and joy (car) to fund these trips, but in years to come it'll be right call).

    Game on!!!!!!!!!! :)

Up until I was about 8 were the best years. After that they were never as good :(

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 2,324 ✭✭✭Alter-Ego

18-21. Good years. Life's taken a nose dive over the past few years but that's my own fault and its within my own hands to get back on track.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 4,571 ✭✭✭Aoifey!

It's a toss up between right now and when I was 15/16.

When I was 15/16 I made some of the best friends ever, most of whom I'm still close with. We had no money, no jobs and nothing to do, but we had the craic all the same. That was also when I met my current boyfriend of almost 3 years.

Now is pretty good so far. Still no money but having the craic. In college, making new friends, getting closer to old friend. New experiences and lots of fun. Hopefully it only gets better from now on :D
