Introduction to International Relations

I see this is a module for 2nd year history students in 2011. Has anyone anyone info on it?

I completed this module last year. It is conducted by Dr. Denise Dunne and is examined by means of a presentation (33%) and an extended essay, usually 5,000 words (66%).

When I did this module it was called International Relations: The Cold War, I assume it is still the same. You will first be looking at International Relations theory, the various theories liberalism and realism, for example. You will be constantly reminded that this is an International Relations module and it's case study is the Cold War, so you are expected to incorporate the theory into your work and reading. This is NOT a module on the Cold War, but it takes examples of incidents that took place and examines them under the subject of international relations.

I must say I enjoyed this module, as it is an area I am interested in. Once you get to grips with the various theories and how they evolved it becomes a more mainstream History-style module.

The key text is "Richard Crockatt: The Fifty Years War" and is usually available in the bookshop, but I bought mine on Amazon, as it proved to be cheaper.

Unless Dr. Dunne has changed her tactics, she does NOT put notes on Moodle, none whatsoever.

cheers mate. this module seems to be open to politics students aswel. might give it ago. fancy myself as a international relationist

i wouldn't do this course again if they paid me. There were a number of issues over the lecturer not counting attendance for a number of students. Its a history course first and foremost so there's little room for debate.

Avoid like the plague . inconsistent marker with an infallibility complex. Course guidelines are clear but marking was not. And don't you dare ask for your scripts at the end of the year!!!
