Can't see us getting anything from this game. Beyond rubbish against Drogheda and likely to be missing up to 7 players including three of our four players that can play centre half. Pats are on a good run and I'd go with a two nil away win.

Derry and Rovers could be a cracker. Best two teams in the division so far this year

Interesting to see Dundalks reaction after the loss against their neighbours.

I think Rovers will beat Derry by 1 goal.

And Shels to beat Wexford in Tolka in the LSC ;)

Looking forward to tonight. Being a game in hand with us leading the table will take a bit of pressure off. Hoping to see O Donnell start as he's been impressive. I think Stevens is back after suspension so CMC could be the fall guy which shows the competition for places in this squad.

That's the whole problem. I don't think we will have a strong enough team to react. Pats are a decent side and we have a terrible record against them so it would have been a very tough game with a full team but with seven players missing I can see it being another home loss.

The brief 15/20 minute period where O Donnell and Finn played together on Friday night Rovers looked very impressive going forward. Granted it was versus a ten man UCD but it was clear to see that they worked well together and weren't too defensively fragile. In games against weaker teams or when pushing for a goal, playing those two together regularly and giving them time to strike up a good partnership could pay dividends.

If Dundalk really do have no centre halves for this game, and North and Kavanagh play any bit well, then we'll win. I'd take a draw though.

True - or in a bigger midfield with McCormack or Rice holding. MON seems to be a big fan of Turner but O Donnell must be staking a place. Turner took a knock on Friday so hopefully SOD will start.

Derry should come out and play which will will suit us and hopefully make for a decent game.

Top by 4 points isnt bad, and a draw against the team who Id say will be in the second spot come seasons end isnt bad.

The real problem was despite the fact we nearly all the possession in the second half we didnt create more. Then when Derry pressured us we threw our one touch football out the window, although despite this we created much more chances and it was hard to see how we didnt get the ball in the net.

Frustrating game to say the least. CMC was my man of the match tbh, some of his sliding challenges were superb.

Decent result, but it was the manor of it that was frustrating. Really should've scored at least one more goal. Long ball wasn't working at all, should've got Finn on the ball more to run at Derry, who were terrible at tackling. Sives even skipped past 2 or 3 players on more then one occasion.

That would have entailed finding him in the second half which was difficult. He was completely anonymous.

Didn't catch all the second half 'cause SRFCTV went off air for a while.

Derry ran the show basically except for a small spell at the end where we came back into it. Substitution made that was necessitated by Sullivan being taken off probably to avoid him getting sent off when we probably should have brought on more support for Twigg.

  • Moderators, Sports Moderators Posts: 15,721 Mod ✭✭✭✭dfx-

Bar the first 15 minutes, I thought Derry well deserved at least a draw from that. Best side to play Rovers in a good long while.

McCabe got early joy against Molloy at right back who is a makeshift right back, then when he moved into midfield after 20 minutes with Kenny switching players, Finn may as well have gone home right there and then. Then on came McCallion and stopped McCabe. I thought they pressurised Sullivan and Stevens terrifically in the first half allowing Sives, Murray and Mannus no way out.

Second half, Rovers sat back at a leisurely pace and let Derry's midfield dominate with flicks and passes and getting Sullivan riled up. It's a mystery how he wasn't sent off. Derry's strength is going forward and Rovers let them back into it rather putting pressure on their backline.

Media saying a complain going in against rovers for racial abuse of Zayed, assume we getting one too.

On back page of Herald about Rovers/Pat and radio on about Rovers.

Would be interested to hear what the alleged epithet was.

I'm sure the details will come to light seeing as a formal complaint has been made and if any player or fan did come out with something bad like this, they should - and I have no doubt will - be carpeted.

Depressing to think that interests the media more than normal coverage of the league.

Hopefully the investigation into this racial abuse wont take as long as the investigation into Sligo Rovers' finances is taking. Must be a year since they started that..

Herald reporting that Rovers are yet to even see the report. Board have said that they will treat any accusation seriously.

Tbh if it was between the two players, nothing will be done. Unless he shouted it and a few players heard then it's really just one word against another. Considering the fact id imagine that there was no big scuffles or anything during the game, I cant see anyone other than Zayed and the player in question hearing it. Not that it makes racism ok, but you cant hang a player out to dry with absolutely no evidence.

In saying that, I would love to be at the formal hearing. I've seen Zayed maybe 30-40 times outside of football...supermarket/petrol station and such and I have never see him not in his full club tracksuit. Cant imagine him actually owning any other clothes.

Is that what your saying eh eh eh?

Seriously tho this comes up everytime he plays against us ever since the infamous "eamo was that your bag in arrivals today" joke/banter from a few years ago(some bag found in dublin airport that day).

Not saying he wasnt abused as he was and always is so fairly sure some dumbass went into racial abuse. So that dumbass should pay the fine.

    rovers player denies it....interesting

If this isn't Walter Mitty stuff/over-sensitivity from EZ/LZ/PK and something was said (Pats or Rovers), something should and no doubt will be done. It is REALLY getting a bit tiresome that certain people (plural) feel the need to constantly go public and sully the league again in front of its various enemies and detractors before any official investigation and clarification.

I presume you [plural] want it swept under the carpet, that isn't going to happen. You [plural] also seem distressed that individuals are standing up and using the entitlements and mechanisms afforded them in protecting individuals from workplace abuse.

Shamrock Rovers FC are very media-aware and use those organs regularly to present their own message. So I have no sympathy that the club now has to respond defensively.

Shamrock Rovers were fined €500 by the FAI in 2005 because of "Racist Chanting" against Gary Dicker (UCD) by Shamrock Rovers fans.

You feel that there is some kind of payback when a club that promotes itself more professionally than others in the media provides a statement to as yet unproven allegations but promises to take the findings seriously?

Your agenda is clear despite your right-on bleating.

I'm sure you're either a Gah, Dundalk, Bohs or Sligo supporter.

Anybody that is guilty of this alleged (and as yet undefined) offence should and will be punished by either club accordingly I'm sure but spare me the agenda.

By being so clearly delighted because you have a gripe with the professional way the cub conducts itself in the media and they are now being forced to answer as yet unproven allegations, you're compromising your own supposedly objective anti-racism.

That's the LOI for you though: rooting out wrongdoing is always second best to getting one up on the clubs you hate.

You can be racist against white people too. Considering the hefty fine of 500 euro I would say it wasnt exactly a big thing. We probally Boo'd him...and he drew reference to ghosts...and hence us calling him white. Thats usually how it works

Rovers player has denied it formally. Case closed unfortunately. Match official couldnt have heard anything as he didnt act on it. If he did hear it and didnt act on it then he already passed a decision that it wasnt racist/etc and nothing will be done. Rovers have backed the decision of the player denying it so no other rovers players heard it. Annnnnd finally the only other people who could of heard it were derry players, so its really just one club against another.

Nice that another club has tried to drag our name through the mud, yet again.

Well however many of them it took for their alleged racist chants to be heard on the pitch. Fact is that of the two again, alleged incidents, there's only one team being hammered over the claims.

I do find it odd that Rovers have been more the highlighted case, i can imagine if it was the other way round (ie Rovers fan/Pats player involved) it would still be the Rovers case that would be the main news.

Either way hopefully it's all dealt with soon.

A bohs fan, dundalk and cork i think are the only others who posted about the racism since i posted the accusation from the media. Its been all rovers fans talking about it.

The "pats fan" will be dealt with as someone took pics of him.
