Draws at 6. Everyone will be wanting to avoid Down. Would love to get Louth at home. A trip to Carrick on Shannon would be great craic too.

    Edit: never mind. Too late.

I was too slow on my thread :-P xxx. Home to louth or away to leitrim would be my choice.

Ye whats good about the draw it that its too hard to give an exact order of where exaclty teams are at.

A few will be still demoralised. Wounded animals can be dangerous or just need to be put out of their misery!

Looking forward to it. Love the qualifiers!

Got a text saying Sligo - Fermanagh. Clare - Lonford.

    Probably crap.

Meath to tear Louth a new one...

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 2,837 ✭✭✭NufcNavan

What was all that bollocks about a team who got an away draw last year egtting a home one this year? So basically Westmeath have been screwed out of a home game. What a joke.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 879 ✭✭✭mossyc123

Bad draw for Meath. Away from home and there will be a media circus around this one... Drogheda is a kip of a county ground aswell!

Totally agree. Constant rule changes piss fans/teams off. To do so at last minute especially. This was never the case before?

I agree, particularly after they should have beaten Mayo in Connacht and that London football gets stronger due to recessions with young guns leaving Ireland for work.

To be fair that's been the way for a good few years. Think we benefited from it a few years ago against waterford in round 1. It just means the same team doesn't have to travel year in year out.

    Nonsense of a rule.

It only applies to teams who were drawn away in Round One last year... but sure thats nothing to do with Westmeath... they weren't in the qualifiers till Round Two last year!!!

If they are going to try and even up the home and away games they should take into account Rounds 1,2 and 3 over the last 3 seasons and do up a league table of who has more or less home ties. (Round 4 is Neutral venue as far as I know)

Of the 2 teams drawn out whoever has the least amount of home games over the last few years gets the home venue.

Too logical for The GAA though.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 11,001 ✭✭✭✭Flukey

It should have been first out, home game, no matter what happened last year. There is no doubt what the stand out match is. Louth could get a goal head start awarded to them, but maybe we'll let Meath off on the basis of what happened last Sunday (not that they deserve it). There is no other really interesting tie from a neutral's perspective. The first round draw rarely brings a big one.

But it defeats the purpose of an open draw.

Agree. its not Westmeath's fault that the other team was in round one two years in a row. Tough **** if you get knocked out in first round every year!

I would have a sneaky feeling it may be moved because theres no chance drogheda would be able to cope with the crowd that'll be at the game. Agreed that the ground is a dump.

Can't be on in Drogheda, only holds 7000.

Ok a closeby location.. eh Navan:p

Seriously though, is there an alternative ground?

This could be the televised game?

it only holds 7000??? not a chance of it being held there - and that's going to be seen as unfair won't it now or something... is there no bigger ground in all of louth??

Behind closed doors would suit the gardai and referee;)

Breffni Park?! Although Cavan have home draw against Longford.

Reckon Louth County Board will be stubborn on this one and insist it stays in Drogheda

Wouldn't be a bad idea considering the way Louth fans behaved themselves last year.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 3,121 ✭✭✭andrew1977

No ground in Louth big enough to cope with the crowd that will want to go to this game.
Cant think of another venue , except Croker as maybe part of a double header on the saturday evening but that would mean some of the other teams in the draw would have to agree to their game being switched to croker.
Hard to call where they will hold the game now, maybe a switch to Navan the logical answer, but cant see Louth agreeing to that, but maybe the GAA fixture committee get the final call ?

Any chance that it'll be moved to a Sunday?

Hopefully not, Putting aside the incident at the end of last year's game that he didn't see he gave Louth a serious of soft frees in the game, frees that Louth got handy scores from.

  • Closed Accounts Posts: 44 DamnTasty

So if this cant he held in Drogheda it will have to be neutral. Maybe parnell Park Sat evening? The game can't and wouldnt be played in Croker for obvious reasons.

Move it to Breffni on its own on the Sunday would be even better

Ye Breffni would suit on Saturday. Hope its not Sunday. Two leinster semis are in Croker and on TV I think so that would rule out it being shown on TV or me being able to attend;)

The seahawk makes a return after a relatively poor contribution last week. :)

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 829 ✭✭✭Long Term Louth

Only messing seahawk! I recall a few years ago Louth getting a home draw against Tyrone in the qualifiers, and choosing to play it in Drogheda. The game was all ticket and a limited amount of tickets were sold. Hopefully the same doesent happen again and I would like to see Louth agreeing to Navan..

  • Closed Accounts Posts: 224 ✭✭mattock

Louth Co Board might go for Newry this would really suit Louth, there is no chance that this game will be in Drogheda.
Hope it is a good advertisement for football the last thing either County or the GAA wants is any kind of crowd trouble.

Clare get fcuking Down :(:( oh god. thats it till 2012 then.

They are one of 8 losing Provincial Semi-Finalists and therefore won't be entering the Qualifiers until Round Two.

8 winners from todays draw (Round One) will face the following teams.

    Leitrim
    Limerick
    Waterford

    and the Losers from:

    Dublin/Kildare
    Wexford/Carlow
    Galway/Mayo
    Derry/Armagh
    Tyrone/Donegal

Yes as a losing provincial semi finalist they will be in the next draw with all other losing prvincials losers and play the winners of todays drawn fixtures.

You could say that leitrim have an easier route to sam mcguire than Leinster/Ulster teams due to being from small province... whether that makes it any more likely i dont know:D

louth v meath i'd say will be played in newry 20,000 capacity that might not even be enough with the crowd looking to go to this one !

I hope louth give them one hell of a battle , and win !!
