Great machine for the price. I'm a Lenovo fan too - they're bulletproof.

Great specs indeed for the money but this review seems pretty vocal on the touchpad.. Wireless mouse may not be a bad addition..

I picked up a Lenovo G570 recently and I am really happy with it. The only thing I would warn people about is that the screen is not great on it. Its very reflective and not very sharp and I presume this model has the same one.

Hdmi? Cant find it in the amazon desc although one of the pics looks like it has???? The review link also states integrated Hdmi. Just wanna be sure before diving in.

Just did a bit of diggin and I'm guessing that dave is referring to this one 4gb though; not 6th but the hdmi is clearly visible in the snaps. Still a good deal IMO.

If they ship here, that's a great deal! Lenovo = IBM (well, they bought IBM's laptop business).

Was interested in this but I seem to recall reading somewhere that Windows7 can't see more than 2gb of ram. This was when it was first issued and I can't remember what the exact context was. I know my own desktop running Windows7 only shows 2gb while there is 4gb fitted. Anybody remember what the story was? I can't see the manufacturers bothering to fit 6gb if that's the case.

The 32 bit version of win7 will see up to 4gb and the 64bit version will see over 4gb

We use these at work in conjunction with a docking station and they are the biz.

Just had a look on that website but can't see any docking stations for this, also had a look on google but no joy, anyone able to recommend where I can get one?

when you mention not for gaming i am gonna presume you mean hardcore online gaming and the likes, would the mother (who i need to buy a new machine for [pc/laptop]) be ok with her farmville and the likes?

Searching by the model number on the Amazon site doesn't give any results for docking stations for this model on Lenovo site.

You can and it will. Even though your bank may charge you commission, Amazon's conversion rate is rubbish.

Put me off certainly. Laptop will be used a lot on buses, trains etc. a mouse would be too much hassle. Anyway, when I pay good money for something I expect it to work, if it doesn't work then it isn't a bargain.

Same as you, its a work laptop.

Is this an issue across the Lenevo brand or just this model does anyone know?

Have pretty much the same laptop never had any problems with touchpad.

Phoned http://www.saveonlaptops.co.uk/Lenovo_G560_1087835.html They say model is M27B2UK. The person I spoke with "thought" that it did not have a HDMI out. If someone has purchased one they might confirm this.

Would buy this but for the touch pad.....anyone any experience with this touch pad? Is it just a matter of getting used to it or is it just a pain in the ass to use?

  • Closed Accounts Posts: 3,859 ✭✭✭bmaxi

Doing a bit of research, from what I can gather Lenovo only started fitting these trackpads in the last year, so older machines which used Synaptics trackpads should be alright. It does seem to be a widespread problem though.

I think mine is being delivered today as a courier rang earlier so i am hoping its the laptop, so I will test tonight and let ye know.

Using it now - mouse is not a bother on it. Nice and quick laptop and cannot fault it.
I work in IT and normally recommend Dell or HP bu i would have no bother recommending the laptop to anyone for home use.

You have me tempted now. So am i right that there is no click buttons on the mouse pad and you press anywhere on the pad for left click? Where or how does right click work?

Also did you pay for it in sterling or euro?

Was in Tesco ClearWater yesterday and they were selling the 550 which I think has a celeron processor/less ram for €399.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 3,464 ✭✭✭jamesd

There is a left and right click on the lower section of the mousepad.
i paid in euros for it and a few other bits i wanted for myself.

James did you get this one?
    http://www.amazon.co.uk/gp/product/B004REBIEW/
    or this one

    http://www.saveonlaptops.co.uk/Lenovo_G560_1087835.html

Both say the same model but the amazon one clearly has a right and left button on the mousepad but the saveonlaptops one doesnt?

I purchased mine off amazon. Great laptop as just downloaded all I needed onto it and created the restore CDs and every thing ran quick and smooth.

I also purchased one of these based on the reviews here, and I am delighted, I can find absolutely no fault with the touchpad or the laptop, this is cracking value and a big thumbs up to the original poster.

.. was very tempted to pick it up myself but really don't need another laptop,

I wonder if the problems are with the "all in one" trackpad. One of the complaints spoke of having to press hard on the bottom right hand corner of the trackpad for right click. Maybe the ones with the separate right and left click buttons are ok. Think I'll go for the Amazon one, 3gb of ram wouldn't be that expensive and I'd be more comfortable dealing with Amazon.

Ah lads ye are killing me! :)

Which one to buy I wonder :)

My own is heading down a bad slope, its about 4 years old, Dell XPS and I use it every single day for my work so it could be on for 16 hours a day.
Its definitely over heating now so I need to change!

Whats the recommendations then? The Lenevo?
Could do with a decent battery on it and I run Visual Studio and SQL Server on it as well as well as probably another good few applications.

Appreciate some advice on this as I know only Dell laptops :)

Need to replace my old vostro, but cant stand the thought of buying a new laptop for a similar price after three years for the same spec, well, I did put €110 worth of upgrades into the old girl, but still:rolleyes:

@Yop: Clean the cooler out and apply new paste, then run a heat test.

If you still want to change, as long as you're doing nothing GPU heavy this should hold up well. Dunno what the overhead for SQL server is(only ever used SQL Lite periodically) but just check where you're currently at memory wise. You'll have a little under 2GBs to work with after you wipe all the bloat, so you should be fine, but it all depends on what other stuff you're running(I have a bad habit of having 60 odd chrome tabs open, that wouldnt help things).

Thanks for that, ya I might do that anyway. If my laptop goes to the wall I am in serious bother as I work from home on it for a no of clients, so I can't have it dying on me.

Battery even died this morning so it has to be plugged in full time now!

SQL Server is running sound, I have 4GB on this XPS and its never slow.
