Tight or weak hamstrings?

    Not sure if any one here is familiar with functional screening or the work of Gray Cook but I'm just wondering how can you know if someone has tight hip flexors/ hamstrings or weak hip flexors/ hamstrings?

    Yes, to a degree.
    but I'm just wondering how can you know if someone has tight hip flexors/ hamstrings or weak hip flexors/ hamstrings?

    There are separate tests to determine each of those, bit too detailed to type out here though. In what regard are you asking the question?

    Probably better videos than this out there.
    Thomas test works for hip flexors anyway

    First correction he typically tries is placing a 2x4 under your heels. If that clears everything up, it’s almost certainly ankle mobility.

    I’ve seen a lot of people with flexible hamstrings f*ck up squats, and a few people with relatively tight hamstrings do them ok. So I dunno if I’d be looking at that…

    The Gray Cook FMS system is pretty good if done in full because the OHS is slightly limited as per the example that Hanley gave but the OHS definitely would give you an indication and it is a test worth using if you are short on time.

    However to get a full profile of an athletes functional movement and areas of weakness and tightness then putting an athlete through the Gray Cook FMS or similar would be very worthwhile as a means of Athlete Profiling.
