A subject I can cram for, at last. Ugh if stuff I like comes up, it'll be great. If not, it'll be crap. Soil hasn't come up in ages and I remember it really well (well, the different types, haven't a clue about tropical soils or how it influences vegetation and all that but meh, it never comes up) and as for the rest of the paper, bleh, I'm a failure at maps and if Urbanisation comes up as a whole question, I may be forced to do them. :(

I'm good at certain parts of Geography but others I'm terrible in. I like all the population and map questions, climate as well. But then I hate soils and rock types and such. Those are predicted to come up though aren't they? I'd better go over volcanoes as well tonight.

Interesting relavent fact about my geography mock. I wrote 3 pages less than a classmate and got only 2% less marks (77 I think). Quality>Quantity.

Answer the question asked - you might be surprised how many candidates seem unable to do that.

Our teacher is pretty sure that map reading might come up.

geography is ok i feel that i can do well on it. i will probably do the map q, i usually like the geographical mix as its not all on one topic and a question on physical geography. I HATE population so i havent even studied it hoping i wont been forced to do a question on it :)

Same! I got 93% in the Pre but I feel like I don't really know much, looking over the past papers. Ah, Junior Cert has been easy so far so hope it continues.

It is designed to be easy. The JC marking schemes often allow marks for incorrect answers. That's why people do so well in it and then get a right land in the Leaving.

Yep, everyone should have a feature of river erosion (waterfall), river deposition (levee), sea erosion (sand split) and sea deposition (beach) prepared, this is a really popular question

Interesting, I never knew that at all. So if I know all my physical geography and map stuff, I should be able to do two full questions? That's the job!

Is physical geography just all the first year stuff... or is soil, climate, and the weather physical geography too? Because if it is... not so good.

It's just easier as you're not expected to answer with as much detail.

Meh! Wrong quote. Too lazy to change it.

On the subject of length with regards to marks, I wrote about 16 pages and got 93% in my mock. I hope the real paper is as easy....

What do you all be writing about? I did five pages and I got 93%.

Heard that irrigation , glaciation , soils and population might be coming up.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 4,248 ✭✭✭Slow Show

I did 7 pages for my mocks and got 87. That said, I'm not entirely sure I deserved my grade. Gonna go cram in a few minutes...hopefully.

Are you going to do the whole book? :p

On that note actually, what book do you guys use? We use "New GEO". My teacher always said from the start that it was a mistake on the schools part to use that book as some facts are incorrect.

I'm just writing a list now for little things I need to cram in tomorrow.

Geography, History, Business and CSPE have to be the easiest subjects to get high marks in.

Oh yeah and I did around 9 pages in my mocks and got 93%. One stupid thing I did was: there was a fireplace and it said to name what sort of rock was used, clearly it was marble but I said granite (??????). I'll be sure to treble check everything tomorrow after that. :D

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 584 ✭✭✭rorrissey

I use Complete Geography by Charles Hayes. My school uses it because there's an Irish and English version of it, it's good enough. :)

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 118 ✭✭Joe95

I'm actually looking forward to Geography tomorrow. I got 51% in my pres and was really happy with it because in 1st and 2nd year summer tests I only got around 30%. I did loads of study for this though, so I'm hoping I can get up to 70%. I know my soil, rocks, etc very well so I'm hoping they come up. Map reading is fine for me, so hopefully I'll get full marks there.

We use that one too. I don't think it's very good.

    Yeah, it's not very detailed.

I use that book, fully agree with your teacher, I hate it! :( Like, it doesn't really explain anything that well and my teacher is terrible so I have to do most of the learning myself, and it's not easy with such a dud book.

We use that one too although I think the first years have a different book. The quality wasn't great but the rapid revision at the end of each chapter is helpful

anyone else find that you have alot of extra time at the end! i did 4 questions and it turned out the 4th question got me full marks and got me that A !:)
cant wait till ge0rpahy! its a relaxing exam

Just reading through a few 'exam tips' now.
Answer directly what is asked, bearing in mind the marks allocated to each section. Short, concise answers will result in higher marks than answers which include paddling or waffle.

I know everybody already knows this, but just thought I'd post it anyway. No need to worry on the length of your answers so. :)

That's the thing, I always find myself waffling on in my answers! I'm built too well for English :p :pac:

guys, if you do 4 questions on the exam will the examiner just choose the highest 3?
my geography teacher said not to because it annoys the examiners but i want to ensure i get a high grade D:
