Does anybody know where you can get organic meat (grassfed beef, chicken, turkey) in Dublin city centre? I've been looking on the net and there seems to be a few butchers on the southside where you can get free range chicken etc., but nothing in city centre?

    Any ideas?

Have you tried FXB Butchers on Moore street? They only sell beef from that comes from their own farm...

    Dunno about chicken or turkey...

No I haven't tried FXB Butchers on Moore street but will check them out at the weekend. I had a quick look in Tesco Express but will check the main Tesco shops at some point today. I assumed they wouldn't have organic meat but probably wrong. Thanks

I shop in Dunnes and know that they sell free range chicken. From what I can make out 'free range' means that the chickens are offered the opportunity to access open air runs, but that doesn't neccessarily mean that they do. They certainly don't spend their days wandering around in lovely green pastures like we would all like to imagine:rolleyes:

Organic chickens are feed 'organic' feed and (as far as I know) are not dosed with antibiotics. What you really want (I'd say) are beyond organic chickens. Which are chickens who are raised in an environment which is natural to them where they are allowed to roam for grubs and such like and are not dosed with antibiotics (as far as I know).

As far as I know, this farm http://www.coolanowle.com/ sells their meat at the Leopardstown farmers market http://www.irishfarmersmarkets.ie/index.html Maybe have a look at that website to see if any of the markets are close you? Or else contact that particular farm to find out who they supply their meats to?

Sounds like you would enjoy reading Michael Pollan's book In Defense of Food. It was recommended by a user here (maybe Metamorphosis?(sp)) and I thought it was very good.

I've bought organic chicken in Dunnes in Cornelscourt, so I'd imagine they'd all do it. It sells out quick though so you may not see it in the evning. Lidl also do organic beef mince which is Bord Bia approved (which is always grass-fed). :pac:

You can get organic Chicken, beef and lamb in M&S but it also sells out pretty quickly. I find I can only get Organic Turkey in a butchers and the one I go to is in Terenure not in the city centre.

Best of luck with the search!

    Looks like Coolanowe sell online:

You can get organic meat from butchers at markets, for example the market at the Pease St Food COop on Saturdays and the Temple Bar market, also on a Saturday. There's also a lady at Temple Bar that sells home grown eggs & fantastic butter/yogurt as well as the usual spread of organic veg.
