    hello :)
I've been here before, have been on weightwatchdrs n looked into primal but not sure about it. I want to lose about half a stone and tone up a lot, I know there's no quick fix!! but am just looking for advice. I have a tendency to binge eat and have gained weight as such so I find a high fat diet hard cos I wouldn't be able to limit portions. I think low carb high protein might work but I'd be fairly carby atm. Basically I'm just looking for help!! I know there's a lot of great info here :)
I'm 5"6 and 10.6 starting the gym tomorrow. I would post a typical days food but it's awful at the moment and I'm willing to completely change it! thanks for reading :)

Drop to under 50 - 60g of carbs a day and you'll lose the "bloat", try get your carbs from green veg where possible, avoid the starchy tubers, spuds, rice, pasta etc etc...

This of course is just to answer your post, in the long term you should be looking at a balanced diet that has you at an optimal weight.

Thanks for the reply :) will try that! I feel like I need to just get in control, lose the weight and then I'll follow a healthy diet in the long term.

Im thinking of scrambled egg for breakfast, fruit salad for lunch and then bolognese without spaghetti for dinner? I know fruit is carbs but they're low calorie and fibre so would they be okay? might seem like little food but Ive had a while of huge amounts of food so I think I need a couple of days like this?

You'll end up too hungry on that. Have a bigger lunch. Lots of veg, good some chicken or tuna, and a small amount of carbs.

What's the reason for the three weeks timeframe btw?

Have you read the primal blueprint or just heard bits about it? I'd suggest read it in full if not :)

Ok will do, thank you! would some couscous be too much carbs? it's 3 weeks til holidays! i'd love to be in better shape for going away but I know magic won't happen in 3 weeks.

try a veg salad with chicken for lunch, have 3 - 4 eggs for the breakfast and you wont be hungry!

Re ; your scaredness towards the Primal blueprint,

have a read through the success stories before and after pics..... http://www.marksdailyapple.com/forum/thread6138.html

thanks a million, really appreciate the advice! had a veg salad for lunch with turkey, no chicken will have to do some shopping. The primal does look fairly promising, I suppose reading the book is the only way to make a proper decision :)

    Hi crazyy

Did you not find weightwatchers any good for you? I was your weight but slightly shorter than you and in 3 weeks i lost 7lbs. First week was 3.5.

What I would suggest is to use a calorie counting website where you write everything down such as sparkspeople.com or glamourdiets.com and It will tell you how much you should be eating and how much exercise you should be doing to get to your goal weight. Its really really good

I planned out today my breakfast, lunch and dinner and by filling it out and getting the calories counted out, i saw I was only hitting 800 which is way too little so I know lunch needs to be bigger as well as dinner.

My advice would be yeah have scrambled eggs for brekkie, even with a slice or two of wholegrain toast.
Lunch have a big salad with chicken, or make your own veggie soup (without potatos) plus have a sambo then too, that will proper fill you and will be healthy too
And then dinner can be stirfries, or fish/chicken/turkey steamed with lots and lots of veg, if you dont wanna eat too many carbs

Just make sure you are out there walking as much as you can. Give up fizzy drinks, alcohol, etc for the 3 weeks too and any sweets/crisps etc and you shouldnt have a problem

    best of luck :D

glamourdiets! :(:( name says it all!

but what your doing sounds good, no sambos or toast thou! empty calories, if your simply saying toast and sambos to get more calories in, you'd be better off with some green veggies, lean meat, and such

    thanks Dublingal :)
I got to goal with weightwatchwers on old points and couldn't adjust to propoints. I think a lifestyle change rather than counting points would be best, I was eating a fair bit of rubbish on ww - pink and whites, ww brand bars..
I think I'll try one of the online things but was looking at fitday.com. presume it's the same kinda thing?
Yeah wouldn't be mad about toast and bread in general, bit stodgy. I always feel better after eating a plate of veggies or something!
really appreciate the advice, thanks :)

I would recommend not looking at it as losing half a stone in 3 weeks etc. Just commit to the primal thing for a while, stop weighing yourself every day/week and watch the changes happen over time. The amount of success stories on that blog suggest this.

Deferred gratification is often overlooked, particularly by the WW camp. It's about altering body composition not losing a certain amount of pounds every so often or getting to a certain weight.

    :)

Its not a diet, its just a website run by a magazine. Just does calorie counting and exercise calorie burning counting... hundreds of websites out there like it, i just find it easier to use

For me, yeah im watching what i eat but im still eating carbs and some sweet things. I cant give it up for a few months, reach my goal weight and then start eating it all again, cos the weight will just come on. Im using the website so im more aware of what im eating, of the calorie content, so im not snacking too much, and so far so good!

Best of Luck Crazyy.. Im starting fresh today myself.. I've to lose 2 stone so your half a stone seems a dream to me :)... Ive done it before, well not the full two just 7 pounds and I gave up basically....... I just needed my motivation back which I think I have got as I left a tread last night and got great advice and its not soo bad when you see other people are in the same boat :D.. I just need to keep it up.. but I will say lash the water into you.. I drink 2 to 3 litres a day the hardest part is starting on that because your body flushes everything in the first few days so your constantly running to the loo but it pans out :).. again good luck :)

Aw thank you!! fairplay for doing it before, will be no bother to you doing it again and more :) yeah getting motivation and keeping it can be hard but I find it's definitely better if you have a good reason and are accountable! we can keep eachother updated if ya wanted!! I've been trying to up the water intake but only just started so will have to make sure to keep it up! any particular plan youre following? thanks again and good luck to you!!

Im sure you and I will both do it....haha....just healthy choices and lotsa exercise

Exactly I agree omg starting is really hard isn't it.. grr you know what to do but to bring yourself to do it is other thing.. Ive been talking and talking about it for weeks and tonight I STARTED ha ha.. I have no plan really ha ha.. I have a treadmill at home so Ive started on that walking jogging I did 50 mins tonight and I'm delighted gona keep it up deffo even if im tired i'll just force myself food wise I'm doing WW (not at the classes, I have the books) and I'm weighing myself every Sat (I find weighing on a sat is better cause I'll be good for the weekend ya know - i think it's the hardest :D ).. my eating habits are ok.. brown rice, bread etc.. my problem this time round is bloody sugar, chocolate.. and tonight I had NONE yay (i feel like a loser now yaying myself for not having an obsese moment ha ha) but i do find when you work out you think twice for eating the bad things cause eating those chocy bics means twenty mins on the treadmill ha ha so it un does the good you did.. so I'll do this for a month then i'll join the gym after I build up my stamina a bit and get intense.. this is it.. this is this time round when i change my life FOREVER :).. yes I would like to keep in touch it'd be great motivation.. oh water well im office based so quite stationary most of the day although today I started running up the stairs ha ha just to get the heart going.. I got a litre bottle of water and I have a drop of juice < no added sugar> and it really helps to lash it in.. i usually finish my first litre bout half ten then I sip the second till lunch finish it then and sip on the third in the avo :D.. it is hard to start though...

just wrote a big loooong post on my iPod and lost it :'(

well done kc83 so far and best of luck! :)
yeah starting is hard and I'm so impatient I just want to see results straightaway!! I've just had my first good food day in ages and am feeling optimistic :) hopefully it lasts! fairplay for getting the exercise in, that's hard work, well done :) will need to get some of that going aswell. Weigh in on Saturday is a good idea aswell, sounds like you've got the right stuff in place :)
on the water thing I add a drop of summer fruits and it's lovely! not a big fan of plain water so it helps get it in. I think I'll keep a ww style food tracker so I'm writing down everything I eat. sorry if this post is all over the place trying to remember what I already typed out!!

Hi all, i just found your thread and can relate to your situations. I'm struggling to loose 2 stone by August!!! Prob a bit of a high expectation but why not have a go. I lost 10lbs with ww over 5-6 weeks but seem to have lost my motivation. I'm a mega emotional eater, any excuse really. If I fall off the wagon I loose it altogether and eat everything in sight for days! Sad really!!!!!!!!!!!
I'm going to try and start again tomorrow morn with healthy food and exercise. I find your comments very helpful so hopefully I might succeed this time.

hi grannie annie best of luck!!
'but why not have a go' that's the perfect attitude to have :) ww seems to work well for people and if you've done it before, you know you can do it again!! I'm the exact same with the emotional eating!! it's so bad :/ will have to find a more waistline-friendly way of dealing with my emotions! good luck with your start tomorrow :)

I lost 9.5 in 4 weeks following Primal. I have 5 weeks done now and I didn't lose any this week but I'm not bothered because I feel better than I have in years. Anyone I have met recently have all commented on how different I look. So I would definitely recommend Primal to you. Give it a try anyway and see how you get on.

  • Closed Accounts Posts: 54 ✭✭crazyy

wow that's brill, well done!! i will definitely look into it, so many people reccomend it. And that kind of weight loss would be ideal for me :) thanks.

Thats imho one of the biggest barriers to getting in shape. I don't think a nutritionist or dietician could help you - need a psychologist for that one

Why specifically 7lbs OP? How do you know that's the right amount required to get you to the shape you'd like? Maybe it's more, maybe it's less? What I'm saying is: there's WAY too much worshipping at the altar of the scales. Given your weight and height, toning up seems to be more of a concern than any major "shrinkage" - why not just go by the measuring tape/how clothes fit you?

I had a look at Primal - and it just seems like a healthy, sensible low-carb diet packaged in a way that it can be sold. Ditto the low G.I. diet. I like the mantra of the Primal guy though - lose fat as opposed to weight. Muscle gain leads to weight gain, one woman of 5 foot 5 who's 10 stone might have a fantastic figure, another with the very same stats might be wanting to tone up, high fluid intake causes temporary weight gain, being menstrual causes temporary weight gain. If I was eight and a half stone, I'd be underweight, another woman of my height/age could be very healthy. There are so many variables...

  • Closed Accounts Posts: 54 ✭✭crazyy

hi dudess! 10 stone Was just a weight I've been at before and been happy with but I see what you mean. I'd like to actually have less emphasis on the scales cos I'm not even sure if mines right and it can be a bit obsessive, constantly checking it. I'd like to see results in numbers as it's more black and white if you know what I mean? but my clothes are quite tight atm so if I notice a difference in them I'll probably be delighted even if the scales reflects differently :)
yeah primal looks great. I'm looking forward to getting into it!

  • Closed Accounts Posts: 37,214 ✭✭✭✭Dudess

Wasn't having a go by the way, and sometimes weight is necessary as a guideline - e.g. if a person is blatantly overweight or underweight, all they need to tell them this is the scales. But yeah, given your stats, there isn't a huge amount of scope for weight-loss, so this can sometimes set a person up for disappointment after a few weeks of making a big effort - busting their arse exercising and eating extremely healthily... then they get on the scales after a week and nothing. Cue feelings of deflation - and possible wanting of chocolate. :)
Yet they may have lost an inch or two, their sleeping improved, their skin glowing - that's why I'd personally urge not too much focus on weight. :)

  • Closed Accounts Posts: 54 ✭✭crazyy

ah I know yeah didn't take it as having a go :) I think I might take a weigh in now and then just do another in a month or so after giving the diet and exercise a proper go! I know exactly what you mean, I did ww before with similar stats and didn't lose anything for three weeks!! after hearing the losses some people had on just their firstweek, I was so disappointed and disheartened! and definitely wanting chocolate ;) anywho thanks for your post :)

I wouldn't trivialise it like that. Food is for energy and nutrients not comfort, so its worthwhile exploring why it has that appeal.

Motivation clinics don't know much about them other than they're expensive. There was a thread in this forum previously, mixed reviews I think.

I agree dudess I fell into that trap before you think you've done really well but your weight is up or the same.. so i've covered all events ha ha.. I only started this week too soo, I measured with the tape and I'll do it again in four weeks, I weigh myself every sat to check if its up or down so i'll know say if im up it'll be ''womans stuff - not being rude ha i literally go up 2 pounds so i also fell into that trap before'' or if it's not that i can go over my diary to see what i ate maybe that will highlight where i went wrong and i'm doing ww with the food..... im on day three and tonight i want a chinese ha ha.. cravings cravings go away ha ha.. good advice though. gona have an apple now :D PS AREN'T THE WEEKENDS THE HARDEST!!!!!!!!!
