    Hey all,
Cant seem to locate an introduce myself thread but mods if my glasses need updating please be sure to merge!

Anyway, my name is TJ and I was a previous boards user but under a different name. Why the change? Because I have quite recently told my (amazing mates) that I am transgender. I'll be around here lots and intending on starting a blog so i can look back and see how far I've come. And anybody embarking on this, scary but wonderful journey can read about my experiences.

    Anyway, that's it!

    Welcome,

I've been in and out of here everyday since 2006, I'm just glad to be posting an posting as my real self!
There's many forums and chat rooms and websites out there, but knowing I could be as little as a few km's from anybody on here makes a difference in feeling the sense of community :)

A little like me, but I forget what gave me the nudge to start posting in the LGBT forum. You're in good company with a nice sizable trans community too. :)

  • Closed Accounts Posts: 70 ✭✭wallplugsocket

Yup I've been reading and re-reading all the trans questions threads etc, and got fed up with myself for not sticking my oar in. It's a long road that can only be made easier with like minded people :) thanks for all the kind welcomes!

I'm liking the idea of this introduction. I know we have a ton of stickies, but an intro thread could help lurkers settle in and break the ice.

Polar bears are quite useful for that too...

    Hi everyone,

As the title says I thought it'd be cool to introduce myself here to see if I can make a few new gay friends (which I am seriously lacking!).

My names Jay, from Clondalkin. I'm 26 working in the financial servcies sector. I enjoy all the usual things - socialising having a few drinks, more crazy nights out, cinema etc.

I have some really good friends, however none of them are gay. I used to have some when I first started going out but we have all drifted unfortunately. I'm not looking for hook-ups as I have a boyfriend who I have been going out with for over 4 years.

I see there is a queer beers session coming up in May. However with all these things just appearing on the day to strangers is a bit daunting! Can anyone tell me of their experiences of this and the crowd that attends?

If you're in the same boat as myself - just looking to make some new friends get in touch.

    Cheers

    Hi Jay!

    And welcome!

Lots of people seem to have the same problem as yourself, I know I do! have a solid group of mates myself, cept nautrally im the only one whos gay, thats the way it rolls I suppose!

Am always planning on getting out there a bit more often, to meet more people. Kinda seems hard time wise, and when you already have a fair few friends.

But theres is things like the boards meet up, or DIGS, havent been to a digs meet up but plan on going to the next one. Went to 2 of the boards meet up. first one was just 3 of us as it was fairly impromptu, but that was cool, was nicce to meet the other 2 lads.

2nd one was a more organised official thing, it was good, (after finally found everyone!) it was good, bit of a chat few pints etc. Goin try an go to the next one myself although it is on the Heineken cup final day, not sure how to work that!
Most people are in the same boat with not knowing anyone, and everyones very friendly etc. Personally I dont really see what there is to be apprehensive about, but maybe thats just me, all you actually have to make yourself do is waalk in the door. The rest will take care of itself. Whats the worst that could happen?

Anyway forgot to introduce myself! am 27, from Templeogue, currently studying engineering... which reminds me I should be studying and not on boards!

Yeah I think finding yourself as the only gay in your circle of friends happens alot. I was in a similar situation in having a boyfriend but not close gay friends so decided to do something about it. I just thought I needed to step away from always going out with the boyf and his circle of friends.

I went to one Boards meet last year which was fun. I joined another website about two years ago and met a great group of friends through it.

I find that everyone's nervous the first time but that's understandable. I remember walking past the group at the meet because I didn't see the boards logo but once I got chatting it was grand and everyone generally is fairly friendly.

Another 26 year old? Seriously, we need to form our own gang or somehting, the amount of 26 year old gay guys on here in the same position as each other is staggering! :D

Oh, and hi and welcome BTW! :P

    Hi jay

Welcome to the lgbt forum. It can get lively here at times. There is a quite a lot of people here in the same boat looking to meet friends. The drinks are a really informal chance to meet others. Everyone is friendly enough and you're probably not the only one who might be a nervous. I've been to a few and would recommend it anyway.

It was so much easier to blame it on Them. It was bleakly depressing to think that They were Us. If it was Them, then nothing was anyone's fault. If it was us, what did that make Me? After all, I'm one of Us. I must be. I've certainly never thought of myself as one of Them. No one ever thinks of themselves as one of Them. We're always one of Us. It's Them that do the bad things.
