Hardly anyone knows what happened. The captain was no hero, and while he was basking in glory he forgot to mention that Shannon ATC saved his sorry skin. A few more facts: if he was Irish he'd have permanently lost his job, his flying license, and faced a criminal prosecution for gross negligence with a jail sentence available to the presiding judge.
