    I'm just idly thinking here:

    1. Could sky buy UPC in Ireland? and for the UK, I heard rumours sky *might* be interested in becoming a cable company (No such thoughts for Ireland..... :mad: ) If sky became cable a provided triple-play packages with their selection of TV channels, They could seriously trounce UPC (If they had competitive pricing :p).

    2. If UPC bought Sky, What would be the possibilities of the channel selection for Ireland? Would UPC finally get a fantastic channel selection (I think UPC Horizon would really help with VOD as there's no big VOD in ireland to my knowledge besides TV3 Player and RTE Player) then focus everything on availability?

    3. If Sky bought Virgin Media in the uk, How would that work out?

    4. Could Virgin Media make all the channels available? I don't think there would be much point in VM buying sky though...it's got TiVo now :p.

    Excuse the how unorganized this is.

    You're wasting your time speculating about the channel line-up if Sky bought UPC or v.v., the majority of TV users in the Republic are on satellite or cable so there is no way in hell that the Competition Authority would allow consolidation because it would lead to a monopoly situation with higher prices all round and no incentive to invest to invest money to keep the network up to date.

    I doubt the EU would allow Sky to buy either Virgin Media in the UK or UPC here in Ireland on competition grounds.

    I know full well that you were speculating, I do understand English grammar (liberal use of 'if', 'would' & 'might' etc.). What I'm trying to tell you is that you are wasting brain power, it's never going to happen. Speculating on a hypothesis is usually done for an event or set of circumstances that might happen or arise. In the case of what you are proposing, it will simply never happen.
