How C.O.D Ruins Airsoft

So many times now have people thought airsoft was exactly like video games where you could go buy an L96 and "quickscope" to unlock "Killstreaks" I am getting sick of it now all these C.O.D Fanboys thinking they know everything about every gun and yes I know that some people that play C.O.D are decent folk who know the guns and airsoft inside and out but come on it is getting out of hand (This is my opinion and I do know I don't know everything either.)Rant over feel free to leave your opinions.

Have a read through that and you'll soon give up and realise it's not worth it. People are stupid, that's my motto. Let people do what they want. if someone says, "Yarr newB toob is *** my ACR am best gun cuz blah blah cod pr0n etc..." just agree, then walk away.

Alternatively, you can make it your mission to teach them all the reality. You'll probably fail but you know... one or two less of them around can't hurt.

Cod N chips is a fun enough game in the single player (I admit, I played one and two, because of the hype) the multiplayer never interested me though.

It seems to have a bigger influence on the younger airsofters, which seems more of the population of Irish airsoft. Older players in the UK and Eire don't seem to be gripped as much by its influence.. ie, its not what got them into it.

I started airsoft for some conveluted reasons lol.
Back when I was 16, in highschool, we were on a field trip studying crustacian populations on the Welsh coast, Naturally, the crappy springer bb guns were in the beach shops, and some of the boys bought them (joint trip for my school) and took delight in shooting at eachother and us in the university accomidation block we stayed in during the trip. Naturally, a few of us got them too for revenge. Cue random antics in the halls with no eye protection (niavity rules).

I got home and kept mine, and for some reason, id bought an extra bag of ammo too.
I ended up doing a bit of google work, found some spring mp5s, pistols etc... ended up getting a TM spring USP (Do half of you even know tm did springers? lol (Oldschool)
I found an airsoft forum, Arnies, and i did my research, ended up going to play a game with some freinds. I got stuck playing ever since.

Airsoft is a game we a play for varying motivations. What is most important is that people aren't idiots. I know plenty of Cod players that play airsoft perfectly well, and don't treat COD as some version of the war bible, tanakh, or Qur'an. Those that do, will either wake up in time, or be woken up.

For now, I do enjoy the chance to laugh and feel superior when some trog kiddie tells me my L96 is a barret.

Funny enough, my first airsoft gun was TM springer too. A Colt Double Eagle. Lasted for years. TM made quality springers. Off-topic I know...

The whole COD-airsoft thing dosen't anoy that much. It can be a bit awkward at time when the youngins' start talking in COD lingo and a haven't the fogiest what they are on about. Apart from that It never botheres me. :)

While I appreciated the OP, its a bit divide of a scenario or a situation as to what happend.

I'm not going to have a barney over some young fella getting a stiffy over playing a game that in fairness, is pretty much CoD in real life.

If your a bloke thats only ever played first perosn shooters and you arrive on an airsoft field, or into a shop your going to spaz out. Thats exactly how I started, its exactly how I spazed out and then I went from there.

I wouldnt openly be snobby towards gamers, because im a bigger gamer than I am an airsofter.

And in all honesty, I'd side with the CoD fanboys and gamers...and most of us have moved from gaming into Airsoft.

The pure airsofters tend to be more annoying and **** at the game then the guys who move from gaming to be fair ;)

    You've stopped spazzing doc? :D

Tbh, I do agree, I play games too, but I hadn't played any till I started airsoft really. I just wasn't into them.

I play a fair number off and on now, some bad company 2 multiplayer (that is kinda fun) fallout, farcry 2, fear2, anything of Lemming's that takes my fancy really. Oh, and left4dead.... i love that.

I don't think its a manner of general cod fans, I think Ronan's point, is when those cod kiddies tell you outright you're wrong, because 'cod says so' its almots as amusing as geardos having omg badges and ranks spaz.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 863 ✭✭✭MonkeyGuy

Left4dead is a biscuit of shiz. What I find interesting is that I play that with the same guys I go airsofting with. Coincidence? I think not. We all like guns and shooting things. Or even just pretending that we have guns....

I agree with FK there, can't really say it better than she did... The problem isn't with CoD, or airsoft, it's that people take what computergames say as fact. The truth is that they lie, all to balance the game better and give a wider variety of styles, but it's still not true.

What I don't get is that people don't think for a second that being able to decide you're a ninja, invisible, have more life than a normal human or have claymores and such glow red is possible. Yet, because CoD says an m14 is semi-auto, it must be true?

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 147 ✭✭Typhon

Reminds me of a quote about the internet about games saying something is fact...quote came from a great figure in history when he found the internet.

'I find that everything, everywhere on the internet is complete fact. Why would it lie to us?' - Abraham Lincoln 12-2-1864

    I mean...if he said it's true it must be...right? :p

You're 14! you aren't even legally able to get near hot singles 'area' for another few years ;)

The only real problem with gamers ive found, and not 'gamers' in general, but the console multiplayer generation of gamers. I feel I must clarify that. Pc gamers don't tend to have the same attitude problems that thier console siblings do. I'll agree with doc, its not really the same beast.

Ive found the 'zomg headshot must win!' twits that play cod on thier xbox or playstation 3 tend to be terrible in game.... cheat more, go for headshots even when other parts are visible, lose any sort of respect for the game and players. Thats my real problem with it... The rest is just craic at thier expense.

I suppose like most things in life these guys will always be about and will find their way into games. But then they usually get bored and leave just as fast because they realize that they can't take 16 shots to the chest before needing to respawn :D

They will be there aslong as airsoft will be here. Best thing is educate and hope they change! If not...sure you always have the good crew from our own local sites to enjoy our days :)

Don't think it ruin's airsoft at all?

When you think of all the new players it's brought to the sport, and of all the money it's brought into the 'airsoft exchequer', COD has been great for airsoft.

Anything that get's more people out skirmishing can not be bad.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 7,463 ✭✭✭Leftyflip

I find it quite humourous, except for people thinking head shots makes them awesome. Newsflash - it doesn't, it makes you a douche. Wanna be awesome? Be the fairest, kindest and forgiving player you can be, people will look up to you for that (or down depending on height). That's how you get a good rep in this game, being fair, honest and kind.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 5,984 ✭✭✭NakedDex

It's a virtual game, airsoft is a real one. They play similar in that you have a gun and shoot people in both. Both are rough simulations of the jobs of professional soldiers.

Call of Duty hasn't ruined anything, the attitudes of some players who leaked over to airsoft from gaming is the problem.
Blaming a computer game for bad attitudes and unsportsmanlike conduct is like saying bar fights start because Heineken make amusing tv adverts.

Also, this has been thrashed to death every time a new FPS game hits a console. Get over it.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 3,152 ✭✭✭Inari

Just to clarify - some douches play COD, and some of those migrate to Airsoft. Not all COD players are douches, and not all douches are COD players.

Gaming, movies, books, documentaries etc. There are many reasons why people get into Airsoft. I got interested in it because I could own a Beretta M9...holy hell...a Beretta...I could own Martin Riggs' & John McClane's gun! I started out as a collector who was mildly interested in the skirmishing side of things.

To be honest, skirmishing was a justification for owning more guns. I used to play CS 1.6, CSS, BF2 and many others. Thankfully I've not heard that I have a douchey reputation for headshots, or for being a dishonourable and ignorant twit...and since I am given benefit of the doubt, I give it to others too.

But yes...pure ignorance can be irritating when people point blank refuse to be corrected (it is NOT a night hawk...nighthawks is an awesome movie with Rambo, Roy Batty and Lando Calrisien)

I got into it because I read Rainbow Six and over a decade ago. I've met plenty of dishonourable, moronic players on skirmish fields long before CoD4 came on the scene. The problem isn't just gamers attitudes, it's attitudes in general within airsoft. Games like CoD have just hit a seam in the market and became an unwitting gateway into skirmishing, so there was an large influx of new players, including some new morons amongst the more numerous honourable and respectful players.

I agree with Doc (jesus, shocks me too...) - any gamer is more than welcome on an airsoft field.

Why does anyone really care about the banter that a couple of youngsters come out with in the safe zone? I mean, really - why? Does it in any way get in the way of play? Or is it just that it marks them out as new players instead of the 'veterans' who don't make comments about guns that they used on MW2 or whatever. You could get just as wound up listening to the 'walt' comments of some 'experienced' players kitting up before a game giving it a load of 'serious' - I mean, come on - grown ass fat dads running around with plastic guns going 'pew pew' at each other. I don't think any of us need to be pegging stones around lads, all we'll hear will be the cracking of glass.

Seriously - to each there own, why give a damn what some people talk about. All that matters is that there are people playing each weekend, taking their hits and having a laugh.

I got into airsoft after years of gaming - both are a bit of fun but completely different. But for the fact that I'm a multiplayer obsessive I probably wouldn't have come across airsoft - so should really be thankful for my CoD playing.

Now excuse me while I go pwn some nOOb with a quick scope kill ... or whatever...

Don't forget the airsoft of my childhood where we didn't have fancy equipment like aegs or springers.

Dart guns, cap guns, homemade "gatts"
Gatts were made from a piece of wood, you got a bag of clothspegs, nailed a few to the piece of wood with a nail through the circular part or the spring.

Then the rest were split and the metal parts attached to rubber bands and stretched from the end to the mounted peg, and hey presto a single fire rifle.

Think COD players get a bad rep purely because there's so many of us out there. I mean, I'd say the crossover between Airsoft and Call of Duty is probably something like 80 or 90% just because they both scratch the same kind of gameplay itch, eg "I want to shoot something that can move, shoot and swear back at me". So naturally, if you see a bunch of jerks acting like jerks and then go looking for some common denominator, Call of Duty is going to be a deceptively visible one.

I mean, most people on any given site at any given time probably play COD regularly, but they don't all go on about it the whole time - like a twat - for the same reason they don't play airsoft.... well, like a twat.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 2,011 ✭✭✭sliabh

Considering we are talking about a game where on a given Saturday you will be skirmishing against everything from someone wearing a perfect replica of WWII US airborne uniform (there is always one on every site, I think it's a law), across from someone kitted out as a modern marine, and every shade type and variety of camo until you reach the guys in hoodies and tracksuits, all tearing around pretending to rescue hostages, defuse bombs or whatever, I really don't care too much about CoD players and what they or anyone else says.

They just need to make sure they take their hits like everyone else.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 296 ✭✭IrishRatticus72

I sell, among other things, C.o.D., live points etc, by the way, I personally believe Battlefield 3 is going to tear MW3 a new one, but when I tell people that A. I don`t own a console, but do p.c. game, and that B., I regularly airsoft, the usual reply is "but you`re too old for both".

Off topic, but try playing Arma 2 with a trackIR, it just blows any other fps away. I use airsoft tactics in online games now, such as flanking ,supression, squad placement. How many of us here have honestly been influenced by one past-time over the other?
pity DICE aren`t putting trackIR support into BF3 though......:(

Don't get it through Steam, its a rip off there and the mods are a pain to install on the Steam version.

Pick it up cheap on Amazon and get the Armed Assault stand alone, Arrowhead addon for it too. There are some class mods (ACES) out there for it that adds crazy levels of realism to it. Like standing too close to the muzzle of a 50 cal will deffen you with ringing ears and blur your vision.

I know we`re going WAY off topic here, but try and get the british forces and PMC packs too.
Then google TrackIR 5, with pro clip, there`s a video of a guy using it in an ARMA2 clip. That`s what I`ve stuck on my headset every night now, it`s addictive........

It remains to be seen what comes of BF3. I'm a little concerned with where BC2 went - as much as I thoroughly enjoy playing it and think it has one of THE best bang for buck add-ons available ever in the form of BC2: Vietnam - as I thought it strayed a little too close to the MW line for comfort. I appreciate that it's not meant to be a classic 'Battlefield' game in its own right but a spin off but all the same .... I require convinced about how good BF3 will be and hasn't been diluted down (read 'feature-stripped'/simplified) to pander to console gamers with short attention spans

"oh hai Activision/Infinity Ward, how're the sales projections for MW5 coming along? tanked yet because you f*cked your PC audience over who were your multiplayer audience whilst chasing an elusive 'maybe' demographic?"

Incidentally; TA-Events have been using the ARMA game-world history (with permission) for their Chernarus Conflict series of events.

    *ahem*

In a pathetic attempt on-topic, nothing extra that needs added that hasn't been said already :P

    +(big)1.
I rue the day the devs said, hmm, look at those shiny boxes from Microsoft and Sony ,we can port over our tat to those, and who knows, maybe the pc audience will be thankful there`s still s*** being churned out for them.......
