It is a great opportunity to build a career in aviation industry. You get a lot of reputation if you work in aviation field. Search in the internet to more about the aviation industry and the business process involving it.

I was also wondering if anyone could tell me what kind of wages you would get after completing the apprenticeship??

    Its based in Dublin.

Remember its an Avionic apprenticeship as it says on the website, youl be based in shannon for the first year in FAS,then 'Dublin' and then 3rd year is in DIT bolton st. the pay rates are Available somewhere on the FAS website, don't be a bit suprised if your not dublin based in 4th year and when you finish

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 113 ✭✭LeakRate

Usually based in dublin for phase 3 of apprenticeship, then for phases 5 and 7 it will be prestwick or stansted, then after your finished who knows!!Its a great apprenticeship however with plenty of hands on time

my brother did this apprenticeship it lasted 4 years...phase 1 was Shannon then Dublin...then Prestwick back to Dublin and now he is finished is stationed in Stanstead.

    thanks for that,

is your bro happy at what hes doing now?
is the pay and benifits good?

hope you dont mind me asking im just trying to find out as much as i can

wonder do they keep on their apprentices when they all qualify?

I have two friends working in prestwick as mechanics, they work hard and as far as I know mostly 12 hour shift however they get 3 moths paid holidays every year from june for the summer. They enjoy it, however it is high stress and pressure working for ryanair sometimes. I think they keep the most of their apprentices after they qualify and yes you cod be based out station somewhere in Europe.

Are they looking for fresh faced teenagers, or will Engineers (non-Mechanical/Electrical, i.e. mostly non-relevent) with a few years experience be wasting their time applying?

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 113 ✭✭LeakRate

Its a four year apprenticeship broken up into 7 phases, phase 1 is usually a two week induction on the job, phase two is approx 9 months in FAS Shannon in the class studying the modules, phase 3 is on the job for approx 12 months, phase 4 is in DIT Bolton Street for approx 6 months again classroom work, phase 5 is back on the job for approx 11-12months,phase 6 is back in DIT bolton street for 4 months classroom, then finally phase 7 is 3months on the job then your apprenticeship is wrapped! However getting the apprenticeship completed is only half the work done, you can work on the aircraft but wont be able to sign off jobs or a certificate of release to service, while doing your apprenticeship you will also be aiming to get your EASA PART 66 Aircraft maintenance license which requires you to sit approx 13 modular exams within a 5 year time frame to gain your license either category A,B1 or B2,You will be sitting these exams while on ur off the job phases in shannon and Dit.With the easa 66 license which is issued by the IAA you can now sign off jobs on Aircraft. If i can remember and these rates may have changed but for the payscale during apprenticeship was as follows,Year 1 10,000e,Year 2 13,000e,Year 3 16,000,Year 4 20,000e approx! As regards to when your qualified your looking at anything from 30,000e-60000e depending on what licenses you hold. Usually all ages are considered for the apprenticeship from 17 up to 30,if you hold degrees in electrical engineering or mechanical engineering it would def stand in your favour, even if your fresh out of school you have a great chance!its like any other job really,it has its ups and downs, usually alot more ups, there's pressures that come with it,its shiftwork, usually 12hours,your social life takes a hit but its still a good job with a lot of good people in the industry, sorry its a bit long winded, just wanted to give you all the gen and best of luck with ur applications

i dunno really man, am i spose it would be the usual aptitude test. maths, basic understanding of instructions and mechanical reasoning. sample aptitude tests can be found online. i dont think the interviews will be on the same day. but i dunno no harm to prepare.
