Slow Release Protein Shake or Food before bed?

I was thinking about buying a slow digesting protein for before bed (now that I'm on a bulk) like this http://www.myprotein.com/ie/products/milk_protein_smooth

I posted on another forum and was told, if I liked cottage cheese, I should use that instead.

It'd cost up to 70% more for eating a 250g tub of cottage cheese rather than the Milk Protein but I suppose there's no comparing real food with shakes.

What's your thoughts on this and suggestions for other forms of nighttime protein?

Where are you buying your cottage cheese? Lidl has a very nice one for 59c per 200g which works out about the same price per portion as the shake, and will probably be more filling.

If you are bulking, I'd mix in a bit of peanut or almond butter with the cottage cheese.

Thanks for the tip EileenG. Do you bother reading the labels between different brands of cottage cheese or is the difference so small that it's not even worth the hassle? The cottage cheese I bought today (to make sure I can eat it) was this http://www.sainsburys.co.uk/groceries/index.jsp?bmUID=1307119703366 - I travel across the border for work. But I'll definately have a go at the lidl stuff.

Yeah, I'm bulking at the moment - wanted to get down to 10% bodyfat but gave up in the low teens a couple of weeks ago to go ahead and start my first bulk (those last few percent are a nightmare :( )...

mmm, almond butter sounds good. What's your preference between it and peanut butter? Even during my cut, I made allowances for peanut butter and have gone through a kilo tub during the past month or so...

I am also doing a bulking diet and was under the impression potatoes were a great food to gain weight but there seems to be a lot of talk now that this might not be so.

can anyone give a bit of insight into this?

Almond nut butter is lovely. I personally prefer it over natural peanut butter.

What you can do is buy Casein protein which is slow release.

Alternatively use normal protein and add some fat to it so that it slows down/delays the digestion of it. Fish oil tablets should do the trick, or Olive oil if you'd prefer.

That's my way of doing it. I don't like eating before I go to bed because I don't wake up hungry enough.
