Well I say screw Zascar. He only comes here to collect the rent and boast about his awesome life.

I say you start your off topic thread with lots of capital letters and starts in the title and let the two threads duke it out! I'll start bullying lobbying PC to erase this one...

    LOL @ can't decided!! :D

How about we change the name of the thread whenever appropriate? We do this in the Electronic Music forum, it gets a new thread title every time someone says something really funny or retarded.

Or feel free to start your own and let this die if you want! :)

I remember when I started I was sh1tting myself but very soon you will be grand. I'd just say take it at your own pace. Find a housing estate with no cars and do laps of it for a while. Take one aspect and practice that over and over. What I did was I found someone who had experience to come out with me and help me along and give me advice as I go - helped a lot. Good luck!

Go for it. The sooner you start making these small trips the sooner you'll start getting confident.

When I got my first bike there was nothing that'd stop me getting out on it. I'm actually impressed by your sensibleness!

You need to find someone on your side of town to get out with so, or get a lesson or two on your own bike to improve confidence.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 6,908 ✭✭✭Alkers

Ah go for it, that's how I learnt, no harm done bar the odd couple of stalls @ lights and a couple of "oh sh1t" accidental wheelies taking off!
Mad to go to the TT next year after missing out this year, how cheap can it be done for. Have two mates who are up for it and we'd hopefully ferry over with tents and our bikes.
Just started a new job in Swords, living Mt. Merrion, went through town the first few days which is a good laugh but the M50 is still quicker, big increase in mileage for me. Have 190km to the current tank and the light isn't on yet, normally comes on around 180 and have never gone beyond 200km without filling up. If I get home tonight that's another 40km.

    Did you go?

The only thing to watch out for is the throttle. I mean, when you let out the clutch when starting out, I've seen loads of people fall back slightly because the clutch grabs. And they try and pull themselves back into position, but they end up winding on the throttle and flooring it!
As long as you can control that you're grand. And that only happens the very first time they ride a bike.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 11,465 ✭✭✭✭cantdecide

Is there a throttle stop on the Fazer restriction?

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 12,399 ✭✭✭✭maameeo

    Hi guys!

yea i went but my friend drove around a bit with me and left me at swimming.

When i came out of swimming my bike was gone!

    i nearly died, seriously!

the fella in the crc hid it on me, could have killed him! he said it was to teach me a lesson for not locking the bike! no one told me i could lock the bike!!! yea you're probly all laughing at me now :(

anyways, i drove home on my own, cut out once, was fine, as you said Paparazzo, its the trottle control i need, im afraid of it starting off and then i go too slow and cut out :S grr, ill get it!

ya know what else i keep doing? forgetting to turn off my bloody indicators!!! argh!

anyways, thats my stressful story, hows everyone here?

Ya. That's perfectly normal. My trainer used to kill me for that. My mate used to do it all the time too. It goes without saying that it's v.dangerous of course.

keep thinking Ive left my indicators on..

green blinky indicator light - on a naked green bike, so I kept getting glimpses of the front fender under the clocks, and I compulsively press the cancel indicators button. Reckon that buttons gonna need to be replaced at the same rate as me rear tyres :P

Have a good one! I'm just back had a great weekend, never seen so many bikes in my life! Never got a chance to do the full track, the mountain road was almost permanently closed - every time they opened it within an hour someone would splat themselves and they'd close it again. Such a pity, so many guys go up there doing crazy ridiculous speeds thinking they are Ian Hutchinson, but they make one tiny mistake and its curtains. The Isle of Man is a great place, its a miracle they still allow people to do this, but it might not be for too much longer if so many people keep dying

What would we think of black downpipes on my GSX14? I was talking to a powder coater who thinks it should be okay to blast and coat my downpipes with a heat resistant coating.

I plan on keeping the bike and I don't fancy the idea of having to refinish or replace the pipes regularly.

You can get black flameproof paint, it's good to 1200ºc so it should be fine for the headers.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 11,465 ✭✭✭✭cantdecide

I'll have to have a look for that. Do you know if I'll have to have them blasted? Do you reckon it would look cool on a 1400?

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 14,907 ✭✭✭✭CJhaughey

I would say a wash and a light sand will get most of the gunk off. Then spray them.
They will still fade as roadcrap gets thrown on to them and bakes on.
But will look better than rust brown!
The spray cans aren't expensive, I am sure that I saw them in Toppart in Clon for less than 10 per can. VHT brand.

Why is it that wherever you go, a double entendre is sure to follow?

I'm trying to swing it. An old friend is bringing his sprog back from the UK for the first time at the weekend. I'll definitely spend time with him but it would be cool to brave the long haul to make the run if it is stays dry.

Are you going to it? Will you drive?

I'll be heading with maameeo and a few others on Sunday.

It's for a good cause to raise money for The National Maternity Hospital Intensive Care Unit (Unit 8) so if we could get a few more going along it's be great.

Sign on is between 9:30 - 10:30 at Dublin Harley Davidson in Ballymount Ind Est just off the M50 and start out at 11.

I think it depends on how much you've been getting out and how comfortable you are with the idea of it. There can be a little pressure to make progress even if you're at the very back. I think if you aren't feeling it, you shouldn't do it but you should at least go as a pillion if you can. If you're feeling up to it, and the weather holds, you will enjoy it.

Thanks for that. Weren't you about to explain why you don't show your face around here more often :pac:

TBH, I think I'll have to give this a miss unless they wadically weview the forecast. They said on R1 this morning that Sunday will have widespread heavy rain and wind :( The busa will still be off the road by then and I'll have no protection on the GSX...

We won't push her, I remember what it was like my first time out not that long ago. If the weather is bad then your right that she would be better off sitting this one out and getting more experience the open road on dry days.

That's very sweet of you. If the weather forecasts change, I'll be there with bells on.

You aren't obliged to either depart with or stay with the pack. If the weather turns or if you get cold feet, you can always pull over and leave the crowd off.
