So I'm going to join the music soc next semester.

What's it like? Are the facilities good? Are there many people trying to join bands there etc?

Do you mean the orchestra? If so, this is them in action during the year

So there isn't just a general music soc like there is for everything else?
I was told there was, with a music room

There is. Check the trinity society website. There are a few musicy societies but the actually music department is quite small so you'd know everyone in it. The demand for a society for them is therefore pretty small, so if youre doing music next year you'll probably know where things are at.

Im a third year TCD music student and the music soc in college is basically the music department and is mostly classical music with a rare exception. The alternative music soc, the jazz soc and trinity orchestra are probably the better societies. If you are hoping to join a band the alternative socis your best bet!

But if your heavily into classical music then TCD music soc is for you

The Jazz soc music room is absolutely brilliant, located in the deep depths of Goldsmith hall...And in my experience, they're really accomodating as regards lending you stuff for a gig or whatnot.
