Personally speaking, I found the only thing that helps constipation for me is colpermin. Though I do have IBS and its mainly designed for that.

Usually these colonic cleansers (is that the correct term?) require you to drink large amounts of water. Make sure you're getting enough into yourself

Hi I suffer from IBS too and was using dulcolax on one occasion but it nearly killed me. Dreadful stuff. I stumbled upon Milk of Magnesia believe it or not which is much more gentle to take and works really well. Usually I take it at 8 in the evening and everything is moving by morning. Read the instructions cause you have to take more for a laxative effect. HTH

Hi OP, I also suffer from IBS, thankfully not near as bad as it use to be.

I was also prescribed MOVICOL and a honey like stuff called LAXOSE or something like that but the honey stuff did nothing and it took days for the movicol to work. I soon changed my diet to no white bread or regular chips take away or white rice...mainly no white foods.

Although I moved to hi fibre, that didnt do the best either so I had to work out a balance. I find eating natural probiotic yogurt, muesli or granola (a handful) and any fruit, my favourite is banana, every morning or few works wonders.
Within a few hours, even just 2...you're ready to go. Smoothies are great too, using fresh fruit, yogurt, juice, oats, mueasli, whatever you want.

But when I have constipation bad like recently, I tried FYBOGEL, orange flavour, get it in any chemist, it did the job within 2 hours!!!

    I was sooo relieved.
    Good luck.

hi, ive never tried the milk of magnesia but might try it if this dont work.
also ive tried the laxcose too found it helped sometimes but not always. i was also using fybogel for the last few weeks but ended up counting on it to move my bowels. thats why im prescribed movicol now, im hoping it will solve it for me and then i may cut out white bread etc too, i will admit im not great to eat my fruit and veg but better start as i cant continue this way:(:(
thanks for yer replies, glad to hear im not alone..

Peppermint oil is very good as is ducolax, plenty of water and leaning forward on the toilet can help some people

Hi, my dad suffered badly with IBS and constipation. About two years ago he started taking about 100ml prune juice every morning (he downs it like a shot cause it doesn't taste fantastic - not horrible - but not great! ;))
Anyway, he finds it great to keep things moving, and takes a bottle with him any time he travels. He takes the Kelkin one I think. Dried prunes would also be very good.
