Anyone got any thoughts on these tournaments? Was looking at doing a double or an accum over a few things durin the summer to keep things interesting!

I see Brazil and Argentina are top of the betting, wonder what sort of squads both will be bringing with them? Im interested to see how Neymar gets on for Brazil, could have a good tournament if getting the games.

However i dont know if Messi is goin to be in the squad, Argentina could be hard to stop with them being the host nation and his brilliance!

Just seen the likely Spain squad for the 21s, I have **** all money but awfully tempted to lump 150 on them. 2-1 with Boyles and 2.5 with Bwin online.
Goalkeepers: De Gea (Atlético), Rubén Miño (Barcelona), Diego Mariño (Villarreal)

Defenders: San Jose (Athletic), Botía (Sporting), José Angel (Sporting), Dídac Vilà (Milan), Azpilicueta (Marseille), Domínguez (Atlético), Victor Ruiz (Napoli), Montoya (Barcelona)

Midfielders: Thiago (Barcelona), Rubén Pérez (Deportivo), Diego Capel (Sevilla), Javi Martínez (Athletic), , Parejo (Getafe), Mata (Valencia), Ander Herrera (Athletic)

Forwards: Muniain (Athletic), Adrián (Deportivo), Jeffren (Barcelona), Emilio Nsue (Mallorca), Bojan (Barcelona)

Thats as good as its going to get really . I just cant see past them, theres only like 8 teams as well.

    Opinions?

Connor Wickham I reckon should get a good few too.

Juan Mata seems to score a lot of goals for Valencia so he could be a good outside bet.

Don't think Wickham will start. Sturridge will be main man for England. Fancy Czech Republic as darkhorses and Pekhart is a goal machine at this level so if they are to to go far then Pekkhart will be definitely be in with the mix for top scorer.

Iceland at 11/1 e/w could be the bet of the tournament.

I'll be backing Uruguay as the odds are still fairly decent, @ 10/1 (PP). The starting XI can compete with Argentina and most certainly can do so with Brazil. Brazil while the better team vs Holland and Romania over the past few days, still do not convince me. Their performances haven't been overly impressive for a long while now.

Going back to Uruguay for a sec. Just look at the squad. Strong and in depth. Defensively very solid and when you have attackers like Suarez, Forlan and Cavani.. there's goals galore. Quadruple winner this past season for Porto, Alvaro Pereria in midfield will offer a lot of pace and attacking quality down the left wing. Youngster Lodeiro who I expect big things to come from him for Ajax this coming season. Perez who was so mightily impressive in the destroyer role in South Africa will provide protection to the defence and get forward too. Then there's the GK and defence. Muslera (GK) had a few dodgy performances in the knockout rounds of the WC last year but he's a talented GK going, those who've watched any Lazio games will tell you how important he is.The defence consists of players like Maxi Periera, Godin, Caceres, Lugano and Victiorino. Talent and experienced nuff said. I rate the defence as much as the attack and that's saying something. Both are fantastic.

I need to read over the permutations but I think 10/1 E/W is well worth taking up.

Re: Paraguay, I'll be backing unders every single game for them. My first time watching them since the WC last night. Nothing has changed and the same mistakes are still being made in getting the best out of certain players as well as playing the certain players over far more talented ones.

DONT PLACE IT ON PP ADE!! Bet365 have them at 12/1 to win it while halving the odds (6/1) for a place.

I know I said I wouldnt have a bet until the new season but cant resist putting 10 e/w on them. Like you said, the quality of Uruguay squad going into the tournament is impressive. Only Argentina' front three IMO are better..

Will also give me bit of interest over the next few weeks and of course they do have the future World player of the year in El Pisteloro:D

    Brazil squad for Copa America:

Goalkeepers Victor (Gremio), Julio Cesar (Inter)

Defenders: Daniel Alves (Barcelona), Maicon (Inter), Andre Santos (Fenerbahce), Adriano (Barcelona), Lucio (Inter), Thiago Silva (Milan), David Luiz (Chelsea) Luisao (Benfica)

Forwards: Robinho (Milan), Alexandre Pato (Milan), Fred (Fluminense), Neymar (Santos)

Don't really fancy them to do much. Poor midfield (by Brazilian standards)IMO. Neymar has potential to be star of tournament though.

    Aye.

I like Luis for top goalscorer. Besides the obvious Argies, himself and Neymar are the two to go for. I'd like to say Falcao too but besides Guarin, Rodellga and the CB's Yepes and Zapata, Columbia will fall in the quarter finals. Their form is pretty poor too just to add.

Suarez is my pick for top goalscorer though.

Would Spain be everyones most likely outright winner?

  • Site Banned Posts: 26,456 ✭✭✭✭Nuri Sahin

Been reading up on all things Euro u21's since yesterday evening.

If anyone is looking for a top goalscorer bet besides the more obvious names, it'd be worth looking at Pekhart @ 12/1 for the Czech Republic. The Czechs u21's are in fine form going into the Euros. Pekhart is seemingly always in the goals for them. Not much else to it. Kozak, his strike partner and also plays for Lazio is Jan Koller MKII might be someone else to consider but for me, Pekhart is the one to go for.

Icelandic forwards in Sigthorsson @ 33/1 who plays for AZ Alkmaar and has scored a decent haul for them especially considering Alkmaar as a whole are pretty average compared to the side of a few years ago is another I like.

If you're into facts and superstitions, 2 of the last top goalscorers in this comp have come from the home side. Bille Nielsen is @ 11/1 and is the main man for Denmark. Denmark's form is a mixed bag so be cautious.

    _____

Personally speaking, I'll have wee bet on Sigthorsson because he's bound to score a couple in his group. I really fancy them to get out of their group. Group B is very hard to call. I think the Czechs will be difficult for both England and Spain, and potentially one of them could miss out on a semi final place. Czechs are organised, defensively solid and like to play the counter.

Their first 11 is a team that would challenge for a champions league spot in Spain.

I backed them at 3.1 on BF they are now down to 2.96 I think they are excellent value even at shortish price.

Not saying they are going to win it, but they represent great value imo and thats all you can ask for.

I threw on 10e myself its just more interest myself, but do think they are a 11/8 or 6/4 shot imo just going on squad selection..

England, Czech Republic and Iceland are all dangerous but I think their prices are correct maybe England a bit on short side..

    Just my 2 cents.

Considerin what you mentioned about the Spain squad I think we will get a good run for our money at least.
I would be more than happy with a bit of entertainment for a small stake

I actually quite fancy England at 4's and while they'll be my main bet I also like the look of Denmark at 8/1.

Nielson to be top scorer at 10/1 is another I like the look of.

In today's games I'm on Iceland at 6/5 and Denmark at 6/5 as well. Might put them in a double.

The PP Powerplay is Denmark and Iceland if you have a PP A/C, tis @ 9/2.

I'll take this individually. Good sized bet on Iceland I had @ 6/5 last night, odds were dropping this morning. Probably go with a goalscorer bet in the later kick off.

My little preview on both games today in the soccer forum for those interested, apolgises for my lack of knowledge re: Belarus namely.

    http://www.boards.ie/vbulletin/showthread.php?p=72706030#post72706030

I honestly don't think Switzerland will lose today but good luck to those with money on Denmark. Opening days of tournaments have never been all to kind to me in the past and Iceland I'm probably a bit too over confident in but they should really win their match today.

  • Closed Accounts Posts: 1,317 ✭✭✭Yardie

Pekhart topscorer/Czech Republic to win the Championship @ 29.0 with Ladbrokes.

Czech's are 7/1 to win the tournament outright but if they are to win in they are going to have to rely on Pekhart for goals so 29s is value.

    Bet for today:
Belarus vs Iceland Over 2.5 @ Evens

  • Site Banned Posts: 26,456 ✭✭✭✭Nuri Sahin

Covered myself twice somewhat with 0.5. Some of their key players have the flu, wonder if the bookies knew this beforehand hence the odds.. no mention anywhere else though

Put a fiver on Pekhart and Nielsen to be top goalscorers before yesterday's matches..wished I hadn't bothered, Denmark looked toothless.

5 on Spain to win both halves @6.50.

I really fancy this Spain team, I do think England's defence is there strongest part but this Spain team I reckon will do the business.

Also went with, as above, a treble of Spain, Czech Rep. and Corinthians.

My Copa America preview for those interested

Still stand by my earlier comment in this thread re: Uruguay along with Paraguay and unders 2.5 goals. Costa Rica are sending an u21's squad and Mexico are sending an u23 squad that won't contain a lot if any of their senior squad.

That midfield is very poor for a Brazil side but the defense looks the best in the comp. by far. To balance the midfield, they will prob play 3 of the forwards in Robinho, Neymar and Fred and may also push Alves up to RM allowing Maicon in at RB.

Is Kaka injured btw or just couldnt be arsed?

If Argentina get their tactics right, they should prob. win though though no value in the O/R that i can see. Brazil - Argie final looking ominous. Great game
