lads - I am heading away to Italy for a week on Friday.

thing is - I dont know should I
( a ) take a rest week from weights( resting is growing and all that )
( b ) do a series of bw exercises and some cardio
    ( c ) find a gym ( unlikely )

Also with regard to the Hurricane XS - blend I started last week ( Creapure / Protein ) should I keep taking it as per instructions ? ( first time creatine user )

    Thanks
    Rob

Enjoy your holiday, get out in the sun, go for a run on the beach or a swin in the sea/pool.

Leave the Hurricane at home and pick up on it when you come back!

I'm off tomorrow! :) I'll just be eating, drinking and swiming a lot. If you're heading off to the sun get yourself a snorkel and mask. You can then swim as much as you like, if you get tired just float there looking at the fish until rested then swim off again. :D

I'd go for option b, I enjoy my debauchery more if I've exercised at least a small bit :). Last couple of times I've been away from home I've taken 15 minutes in the hotel room, picked 4 or 5 bodyweight exercises and done 5 rounds of whatever number of reps. And looked out for any handy structure to do some pull-ups off if the opportunity presented itself, kids' playgrounds can be good (possibly not so good though if you're not there anyway with your own kids). Personally I would enquire if there is an easily accessible pay as you go, you never know when you might feel like using it if it's available. Different strokes though, if you feel happy mentally taking a week off go for it.

Option B from me too, and the snorkel/mask thing!

Also, bring a pair of shoes you can run in; nothing quite pisses your mates off like you returning to the hotel from a nice (possibly VERY short ;)) run JUST as they're emerging from their darkened rooms clutching their throbbing heads :D

Yeah that's it...personally i always feel guilty about taking a few days off in a row! Silly i know but when you're used to training 5 days a week for the last 10+ years it can be very hard to just switch off... i'd have to throw the runners in the bag just in case i get the oppurtunity to go for a run... am i on my own??!!

I think I'll stick with some light cardio just to keep the waste line in check. I'll give the strength stuff a break and eat shed loads of protein - I might come back bigger ! :D

I don't worry about weight gain when on holidays particularly, my diet stays pretty much the same although it is washed down with regular and liberal doses of lovely wine. A couple of pounds is easily dealt with after. I tend to just feel happier, more motivated, vital etc after getting my heart-rate up and moving. A metcon here and there, some long walks, knocking out some lengths of a pool, few sprints etc. Makes for a happier holiday for me these days.

A week's rest would do you no harm I'm sure but personally I can't do it. I pack a pair of trainers every time I go away, even on the shortest of trips. I love getting out for an early morning run and find it a great way to get my bearings and also to find places to return to later with the oh for some sightseeing :)

If I was away for a week or two and there was a gym nearby I'd use it. I'd also use the sea and or pool/tennis court as well.

Figure if it's not a mad sight-seeing jaunt you have a lot more time when on hols and I'd happily trade two-three hours on a lounger to doing some kind of sport.

If there was a 50m pool outside the door and weather was nice - who here would not use it for a few lengths and then who here would not end up doing a bit more everyday etc! :D

I've got an extremely active 2 year old - 2 or 3 hours on a sun lounger is sooooooo far away from where I am going to it's not even funny !

I was really just quizzing should I give the weights+protein+creatine a break for the week or should I keep it up - I've not taken any sort of creatine before and was a bit concerned that stopping for a week might hinder progress.

I fully intend doing something. I would ruin my holiday with guilt otherwise.

Great opportunity to work on any mobility/flexibility issues you may have. Only need to spend AT MAX 30 minutes a day on it.
